For those interested...

Wondering why we've had so many newbies lately? 8,000 members have been added just this year! Despite losing detailed NPD data last December.

Maybe some veteren gaffers can explain what was going on before June 2004 (before "neo"-GAF); give us a history lesson.
The Gaf actually goes back to 1998 but I couldn't find membership data before 2002. From summer 2003 to summer '04 the forum wasn't opened to the public unless you were a member.

I first starting visiting GAF when NPD data started being posted back in June 2002. Don't know why the drop that year... did the mods go on a bannage season?

If you look at member profiles, the oldest dates of registration you can find is some time in June 04. Server crash leads to restart leads to spike in registration, then NeoGaf split off from GA, and you have stability that leads to growth. As such.
