I think it's a mixed bag, geometry and characters are definitely not nanite\metahuman level, the first exchange between the new actor and the other dude was particularly appaling, horizon characters look better, but some shots with the big monsters look cool i guess.

The jungle shot was less impressive than avatar jungle, the shots when he walk close those cars that are so bad looking, people are crazy if they think this is ue5 level.

I don't know, maybe it looks better live, for now i'm pretty cold.

holy fucking shit. Kojima proved me wrong. this game looks next gen as fuck. Maybe not all the time but the lighting got a massive improvement since last year's trailer and some of the geometry looks very detailed.

Yes, the trailer is amazing and there is so much to discuss on the gameplay perspective alone, but there are so many amazing shots in this trailer that are jaw dropping. I legit went wow several times. Just goes to show that cinematography in cutscenes is needed to take the visuals to the next level. I bet UE5 and Snowdrop are probably pushing more detail ingame, but the amazing cutscene direction and awe-inspiring vistas just enhance the visuals to the next level. So many UE5 games are first person, or lack cinematic cutscenes like this. Dont even get me started on the ps2 quality cutscene direction of Outlaws, and first person cutscenes of avatar.

I think they are using hero lighting here on Sam. Some of the gameplay shots have fantastic lighting on Sam.

Sony just needs to make decima their main engine for all first party studious except maybe naughty dog..

I doubt there are any ue5 that run in base Ps5 can match that trailer in any aspect whatever in geometry details or charachters, ds2 on Pro will look even better and far cleaner

All this are actual gameplay and some here still doubt it's gameplay graphics compared to its cinematics, lol, even original Death Stranding cinematics and gameplay looks nearly identical and that's applies to most kojima games.

The first shot is probably also gameplay. Just the camera is not moving so it's not eaten by video compression.
There were no prerendered cinematics in ds1 and we all were saying the same thing before it released (that it looks too good to be real time) and we were wrong. its all real time

It's why I've always felt that cinematic direction (with certain effects) can make up for a lack in fidelity. I've always felt this was the case with many PS360 titles and some PS4 titles as well. What do you think?

Also weird they show it on base PS5 while they could easily show it on PS5 Pro or PC.

And the characters models still have those clay look to them. The skin doesn't look right, just like in the first game.

HB2 on XSX runs 1440P which is has the same power as a PS5 which will come also on the PS5. BM:W also runs 1440p internaly on the base PS5.

One thing about this game you can definitely tell is that it's absolutely a sequel, as... You can tell it was built around the first's skeleton rather than from the ground up like, say, GTA VI. I don't know if that makes it less or even more terrifying looking, considering the asset/animation reuse.

But honestly, also agree with many comments already. It look good but the gameplay parts were... ok. I would say not even to Forbidden west standard. The by the lake shot especially was pretty bad.

Trailer for DS2 looks great, hell I loved the first game and can't wait for this one, but most of those gameplay shots could fit in perfectly with the first game. And I don't care how shitty HB2 is as a game, you're crazy if you think this is close to that. Those forest SS don't come close to KCD2 or Indy. Nothing about this game screams next-gen compared to what currently have.

I think within 2-3 console generations things will finally start to reach a point where AAA games will equal out a bit graphically, regardless of engine, and the main standout factor between them will be things like the cinematic factor.

At least this is my hope, because I want certain movie-like effects and cinematography to return to the AAA space after people finally settle in with Ray Tracing/Path Tracing. That stuff can carry a game graphically, but it can only take devs so far artistically.

As SlimySnake kind of pointed out, quite a few games look beautiful but stale at the same time.

But don't get me wrong, for this to run on base PS5 like it is is probably looking a LOT better than an open world UE5 would have. A bit of sacrifices in fidelity for a lot better optimization ala KCD 2 is fine by me. I prefer smart choices than the many pixel soup UE5 games that landed on consoles. (HB2 not being open world helps a lot)

It’s all personal taste, just like with any art. You can’t preach that one thing is graphically better than another, just like I won’t preach that a particular painting is better than another just because it looks more realistic.

I noticed that the fire they talked about after last year's trailer is in. There is also an avalanche on the snowy mountains and a duststorm. The fire is seen burning down trees causing them to fall down. the duststorm causes lightning strikes but cars dont seem to move. Still, We saw the earthquakes and floods last year. Really cool to see Kojima push both graphics and interactivity like this.

The best in class water tech from HFW is also back and looks better than ever. Though to be fair, KojiPro was the first one to have great looking water in Decima. GG took it to the next level in HFW and kojima is doing the same. This was my dream. All Sony studios working on one engine, piggybacking off of others work and in the end, improving it as well. But nooo, lets all work separately like they are not all on the same team.

Truly decima is the only engine that sony have which can used as main engine for all first party studios , in terms of flexibility, scale, tech and Editor UI currently no other Sony first party engine can match it

The trailer apparently runs at 60fps on base PS5. If you then factor in the interactivity/physics and the game being open world, I can't think of another game that is more technically impressive

Definitely a flex. it was mocapped but i didnt see any dots on their noses so it was likely something they handkeyed in later.

Expect Rockstar or ND to add a tongue just to try and top this.

I agree, looks amazing in certain parts, but not better than UE5…

Ds2 looks very high quality, buuut it's basically empty landscapes with high def rock formations in the promo material so far, and the parts with more vegetation honestly didn't look better than hfw which, as usual, looks to be a lighting limitation.

If this asset quality was paired with a pt lighting system ( maybe ps6) we'd just sit here with open mouths.
