Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

It was impressive compared to video games of the time, which is the lens you and everyone else were using to judge it.
Could be true, i'm not denying it. I remember waiting for games to look like it, lol.
But so i did with the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park.

DF is very impressed by Mafia.

Looks like its on UE5.4 which explains the 60 fps modes in UE5 open world, as well as nanite foliage. They are saying that the foliage pop-in isnt very common and limited to distant assets which was my experience but i dont understand why there would be distant pop-in either if everything is nanite.

You have a lot of pop in on shadows though from my experience (quality mode on pro)

Black Myth 2 baby. LFG

I will be playing this on a beastly PC. These chinese studios dont fuck around, watch this be out at the end of 2027.

That teaser is running at what? 12 fps? Looks cool though.

That La Divina Commedia trailer looks really cool. I'm still missing Dante's Inferno, even with its absurdities.

I can't wait to see what Game Science can do with a real AAA budget.

Wukong costing only 40 million to develop… with those graphics, and animations is insane. Not to mention top tier art and boss design. This studio might take over as top dog next gen if they get bigger budgets. They have the talent, and clearly the work ethic

Black Myth 2 is right up there with GTA6 and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as my most anticipated titles.

China will end up having some of the biggest franchises and studios, it's inevitable. And needed, frankly.

It'll be damn great for sure. Game Science is full of talent, although I swore we were getting Wukong DLC.

re9 looks pretty meh...

The chinese games look all fire.
Im sure it'll look "really good" since all the RE games have looked great but yeah, it's not pushing the envelope. Though I heard it may have path tracing on PC which could make it A-tier.

Now Phantom Blade Zero is where it's at for graphics though hot damn it looks superb. That is what a real next gen game looks like! No doubt that new Black Myth game will be insane on PC when we finally see gameplay. Crimson Desert obviously still looks amazing though put next to Phantom Blade? Not as much....

Then you see cute little Ghost of Yotei with it's ps4 pro visuals it's a joke compared to both those Chinese games. Sony, I hope you and Sucker Punch feel some degree of embarassment this week though we all know they won't as they have no shame.

I'm further disgusted this week by Nintendo and Hal Labs with yet another Switch 2 exclusive that looks like they put zero effort into taking advantage of the Switch 2 hardware. Nintendo is now 0 out of 5 for making games that look great on their new hardware (mk world, dk bonanza, drag and drive lol, kirby, and the upcoming Splatoon game). Everyone thought their games would show a big jump due to their "skill" with a decent power jump over Switch 1 but just like Sony (who i believe took notes from Nintendo), both companies know their audiences will accept the bare minimum.

I like to read the comments on Reddit to see what gamers thoughts really are and while there are people calling out the bad graphics they are, as usual, drowned out by the moron sheep casual fanboys defensiveness.

Capcom is on the correct path, kudos to them. Also Nvidia is greedy as f.ck when it comes to GPU prices but their DLSS and lighting technology were the next step for graphical/gaming evolution.

There are 2 things that I believe games should have. I'm also aware that these 2 things require money and system to be played upon but in my mind these 2 things make the game truly next gen:

--> No pop in/ups. Or very minimized.
--> No baked lighting.

PS: I'm nearly always playing old games and I'm gonna put story first in games as always so I may seen as a hypocrite 😅. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't have opinion about this matter 🤷‍♂️
I am playing FF Rebirth. The graphics are good but that lighting is inexcusable for a 2025 title.

Comments seem mostly positive. Meh

The masses just keep sponsoring the mediocrity

Did you expect anything different?
It's a beautiful game (it's not doing anything absurd, just the basics and OK) and for casuals that's enough. There's no point in fighting with them, it won't change.

It's the same thing as a casual coming here and badmouthing the graphics of Chinese games, won't change anything (taste is taste). What's beautiful will remain beautiful and what's ugly will remain ugly. For them, there is nothing beyond this.

Swords of Legends, another Chinese game that looks amazing. Apparently it is been in dev for 2yrs now and there was some gameplay in it as well. May be the game will release by 2027.

I think Zhong Kui using the latest UE5 improvements should be better optimized game unlike BMW. It was a CG trailer and the game is in very early stage so probably good 4-5yrs from release. It is going to be PS5, PS6 game.

Neither HB2 nor the Matrix demo look like prerendered CGI, which is what the movies I listed are. PS7, if there even is one, won't come close either. There is simply no plausible way a GPU that fits within the limitations of a mass market box, or even a high end PC, will be capable of that. Unless there is a radical breakthrough in how these chips are manufactured of course.

Just quoting you to use your screens. HB2 is industry leading for real time, but prerendered CG is in an entirely different galaxy.

Real time rendering is still absolutely primitive by comparison.

Ah, when i was the one doing these rants oh the good ole days, dont bother though this guy has been a lost cause since they told him this on resetera

No fight here, just quietly seething over Sony first party becoming what it is now 😄 I gave up on them already, so not worth complaining about them much more.

Chinese artists and UE5 is a crazy good combo. All the best artists I knew in school were Chinese. I look on Artstation and it's the same deal there too.

RE9 looks great in some instances and not so great in others. Facial animations are not there with games that are on top in that area. Even older games already out do a better job from what I see. Also noticing other things like Alyssa's reflection not showing up in the mirror she walked by. I wonder though if that's because ray tracing wasn't on. Overall it's going to be a great looking game, hopefully they make some changes to some of the flaws.

Yeah. Videogames will never look as good as pre rendered CGI because of the sheer nature of both approaches. One goes for a frame every 16/33ms in real time while the other has almost unlimited compute power rendering every single frame for hours if not days per frame... I don't know how people can't understand that simple fact. Also as real time visuals get better and better with every generation pre rendered CGI isn't standing still.

Yups, thats why real time will always(or for many more decades at least) be behind, how much behind? Maybe 20years for now?
We didnt reach Avatar from 2009 cgi lvl yet so that puts us well over 16years behind already.

No way, the devs said the project right now is an empty folder and just put this trailer to let people know they started work on it.
2030.

That is obviously not real time lmao. Wouldn't be surprised if the cinematic was made by Platigue Image.

That BMZ trailer was created by Game Science's own team, since they already have experience producing high quality cinematic cutscenes and trailers in multiple projects. In BMW, the animated cutscene for Chapter 1 was also made by them.

Anyone play Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster?

Honestly the game looks quite dated, but it runs crazy well. Max settings @ 6k resolution via DLDSR, 120fps locked, no frame gen needed. So while the visuals are dated it looks incredibly sharp and clean on my PC.

Also the game is still a blast. What a classic.
