Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Last year Neil said that the game had been in dev for 4 years and started dev after shipping TLOU2. There are around 250 devs working on intergallactic and 150 devs working on another project which is thought to be an Uncharted spinoff.

Factions was just a side project for the team. All the best talent likely worked on intergallactic.

The bottomline is that last year he said there were 250 devs on it, and he said we will see more of the game soon. A year later, 250 devs couldnt come up with a gameplay trailer let alone a gmeplay demo? How much do you have to suck at your job to not be able to deliver a demo in a year after 5 years of working on something?

Hitman devs are set to release a brand new game 5 years after releasing Hitman 3. So yeah, 3 years is unrealistic for a new IP, but 5 years should at least be enough for a freaking gameplay trailer.
Its basically this.
Meanwhile at naughty dog:

I mean he isnt wrong. As someone that mainly plays racing games, they have stagnated bad. It has nothing to do with a fancy brand new game engine. NFS Unbound is on a 15 year newer tech and it looks arguably worse than NFS HP 2010. Its the art direction, gone are the bold colors, flashy visuals, FM8 literally looks like ass from all the washed out colors. Whatever they were going for, it aint working. People forget at the end of the day we pay to play video games, not real life 100% replicas.

Also it doesnt help that most of these new racing games come out broken as hell. Driveclub has been surpassed ages ago but small details and the whole flash what the game offered, hasnt.
Yeah, he's not wrong but only because twitter grifters went after games like Driveclub and NFS 2015 for being 30 fps. Now, if a game comes out at 30 fps, there will be riots on twitter.

P.S I have a soft spot for Forza 8. I think it looks stunning even with all the ray traced features turned off. It's probably one of those PS4.5 gen games like Demon Souls and Ratchet, but I was extremely impressed with just how great it looked in most lighting conditions.

What's better than Path Traced Cyberpunk 2077 ?
Path Traced Cyberpunk 2077 in VR !

I recently got 4k VR headset and seriously, there is nothing more insane looking that being in cyberpunk2077. Just look up and see those skyscrapes near you, feel their size.

Is there any consumer PC setup capable of running CP2077 @4k with Path Tracing at 90fps+ TWICE simultaneously--once for each eye?

This tweet made me laugh. Complain about next gen engines costing too much one day and then bemoan lack of next gen upgrades the next.

P.S DriveClub 11 years ago took a big shit over this game. Problem is that Forza Horizon 5 was last gen, and despite looking great, didnt offer a next gen leap over DriveClub and past Forza games. Really hope we see the next one at the VGA. Should be next gen only and push next gen visuals like Fable.

It's what I said multiple times, lots of people confuse art styles, aesthetics, scene composition, cinematography, well pretty much any artistic choice with being the best graphics.

You can't condone devs for making more realistic graphics and say "oh it looked better before" because of all the flashy and stylized stuff. If you pay attention to geometry, textures, lighting, these are all much better.

And they always wanted to do realistic graphics, they just couldn't before, so that's one of the reasons some games were stylized.

So Colin Moriarty speculated that Intergallactic might be content complete and set for a release in 2026.

Jason Schrier immediately chimed and vehemently denied that its releasing in 2026.

Jeff Grubb then said it wont even be at the TGA this year.

Assuming this is true, you have to wonder just WTF ND has been doing all year. Remember, Neil said that they would show more 'soon'. Well, it's been 12 months, they skipped E3, they skipped the Sony september show, and now they are set to skip the game awards.

This is a studio that never went more than a year and a half without showing a new gameplay demo. This is the first time in 20 years, they have gone 5 years without showing any gameplay. So what happened 5 years ago? Druckman was made Studio Head. And then pissed off to make two seasons of a mid tier tv show in hollywood. Completely ruining arguably the best studio in the world in a span of five years. All because he wanted to be in hollywood.

Just depressing stuff.

5090, also not at 90fps. Closer to 60fps. Also more than 4k. 4800x4300 in my case.

That being said, Luke Ross doesn't render stereo for cyberpunk2077, he is using alternate frame rendering and some wizadry magic to make it very smooth. You can only see issue during panning where characters moving across the screen or cars have double copy shadow or something like that but it is not noticeable that much.

Jesus what an ugly and annoying looking cunt, it feel like the did the math to come out with the most annoying face ever...
Sadly thats what the lead actress looks like in real life. Neil met her during the filming of Season 2 of TLOU2. So sometime around late 2023 early 2024. Since the game has been in development since 2020, the main character was likely someone else and most likely didnt look this repulsive.

I still remember the lead character artist at ND talking about making Drake look attractive in U4 because she thought the protagonist of a game has to be attractive. Not sure if she's still with ND, but since Uncharted 4, all their protagonists have been female, and they've all been anything but attractive. the Chloe downgrade especially was brutal. And then they took Nadine who looked somewhat pleasant to downright ugly.

But at least they were producing games, incredibly high quality games, at a steady clip back then. Now it's just one bad news after another with no game in sight. Just sad what this studio turned into.

This kind of shit is what I hate the most about the modern gaming industry. To me this is a gigantic waste of time. And why games take forever to make. Not because they started adding ray tracing and highly quality geometry in their games.

Nah they did all in their power to make it look like an annoying cunt, the actress can look fine on her best day.

They went out of their way to make her as smug and ugly as possible, cmon

Gtfo, this is what separe a rockstar game from any other game.
It also separates each rockstar game by a full decade.

I dont care about all these different scenarios no one will ever notice. Just like how i dont care about how NPCs eating food at a table have their food slowly get consumed.

I care about gameplay systems, level design, and yes graphics. Spend time on those things. Not frivolous stuff like this.

Just when you thought it couldnt get any worse, for someone that wants to be bald (bold...see what i did there), she sure now likes to wear a birds nest wig on her head. Of course everyone else looks cool and normal, but she has to go over the top so that people notice her:

Who cares? It's one game over hundreds of games that release every year, it's not like you don't have something else to play.

Like i always say if there is one company that you don't rush, it's rockstar.

Their gameplay usually suck asses and you know it, this is where they waste all the time, an incredible amount of details to make the world feels alive and that is why their games sell so much.

I absolutely agree with you, this is what separates them from 99.99% of the industry, they are an anomaly & I like them for that, I was actually so impressed by the little snippet detail here, the moment where someone pushed Arthur unintentionally, looked like a scripted sequence but no, it's all happening emergently in real-time. Sick stuff!

Yeah, no point pushing straight graphical fidelity without all those autistic little details and interactions. The more realistic the visuals, the more annoying it is when the little things are unaccounted for. Our brains expect it. They might not add to gameplay, but they're the difference between a living world and a static, fake-feeling one. Plenty of games would have been better off not pursuing photorealism since they didn't have anything underneath to back it up.

I rest my case.

Lets face it, you and I didnt notice that she had 10 different dialogues for that sequence because we only play games once. Especially long ass games like this. RDR2 is my GOTG, but i cant tell you if i noticed any of these little details you see in these tiktoks. Food in plates, nails being hammered in, every NPC being voiced with dozens of lines of dialogue. Never noticed it because i was too busy playing the game. A game that was incredibly linear for an open world game. Thankfully i like setpieces so I loved all of the memorable story missions, but outside of hunting there was so little to do in that world.

I really hope GTA6 makes the game world a bit more fun to explore. I grew out of mass murdering killing sprees back in 2004. So it has to be more than just shooting NPCs and watching the police react.

I replayed the game 4 times and always discovering something new is enough even if i don't see all of them.

More bad news. After spending 4 years making a CG trailer for the game awards, no Witcher 4 at the game awards. CD Project has now spent another year making nothing. 443 people and couldnt come up with a single trailer. I guess they blew their load at E3 with a tech demo. But again, no gameplay still after 5 years of dev time.

Just an FYI, they built a brand new IP in 5 years after shipping Witcher 3 while also releasing two massive DLCs.

And yet just five years later, they cant even release a non-CG, non-tech demo trailer. Game developers are the laziest people on the planet lol.

big game studios forgot how to make games.

you hear stories of a devloper needing a chair asset for a cutscene, but instead pf being able to ask an artist to make one real quick, he has to send a request, that then gets forwarded through 2 departments, until it gets approved weeks later, and then takes a few days on top of that to finally be ready.

useless personnel, adding unnecessary barriers, resulting in ridiculous delays of things that could just be done in 1 day otherwise.

We've been through this before, I don't think it's 5 yrs on W4 alone. Phantom Liberty was released in 23, so that means almost 3 years the majority of them were working on fixing CP and the expansion.

I don't think these ~400 people are working on W4 since the initial release of CP in 2020.

These are their own words - well, if they're telling the truth or not, that's another story.

Do you think you will notice the beer bubbles in GTA6 when your are playing the game?

There are games that have no details, games who have enough details for immersion and games with to many details that go unnoticed or you get fatigue from them. Rockstar games falls in the third category.

and they took their sweet time . The reveal trailer for Cyberpunk came out in 2013 if my memory serves me correctly, TW3 was still in development back then,
My understanding is Sony, CDPR, MS and others are now being more cautious and trying to announce games or show trailers closer to the release dates.
That way. they wouldn't have to spend a fortune on PR and managing hype and expectations [e.g. Ubisoft], they wouldn't risk their shares plummeting [e.g. Ubisoft] and they wouldn't get blamed for delays [e.g. Ubisoft]
worst-case scenario , in the short term, they just get some flak for not caring about the IP

We just need better-run, motivated, and organized teams. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 took around five years to make, which in my opinion is reasonable. I'm playing it now, and the level of interactivity, game systems, and NPC reactivity is amazing. It looks drop-dead gorgeous too. So it seems we can have both.

It's true, at least for CDPR.

CDPR's strategy update from 2021:
CD PROJEKT RED also intends to change the way in which it communicates with the world and promotes its games. Future marketing campaigns will be much shorter, with promotional content released closer to the actual release of the given game, presenting its operation on all supported hardware platforms.
Source

Interview with CDPR CEO Michał Nowakowski:
" While that [Phantom Liberty's] campaign lasted around six months, given it was only an expansion, Nowakowski added that "for a new game, we would still expect a slightly longer - but not two-year - lasting campaign."
Source

It's also a response to SlimySnake SlimySnake concerns about CDPR being stingy with releasing anything W4 related. They will probably start showing more and more things late next year as marketing campaign ramps up.

Kc2 has nowhere near the amount of microdetails of a rockstar game, it is hardly the same thing.

Is it not thou? Every NPC seems to have a fully detailed day and night schedule. RDR2 had some nice scripted moments, like a father and sons building a house over time, which I don't think is present in KCD2. Not sure, I haven't played enough yet. But there is some great interactivity, like NPCs remembering if a door was open or closed. Yesterday, I was stealing something from a house, forgot to close the door behind me, and an old hog that lived there walked by, saw the open door, and came to investigate. Or I stole clothes from the bathhouse and went outside undetected. Then, just like in every other game, I put my new outfit on, only to be seen by the lady who owned the place. She immediately recognized what I stole and I was in trouble. To me, this kind of interactivity is more important than a guy sitting at a table and cutting each individual piece of steak. That is pointless stuff that I agree should not be prioritized.

Not talking about npcs schedule, kc1 had already better schedule than rockstar games, but microdetails in the world, i played the game for 20 hours and you can clearly see the game does not have rockstar bidget to put the most insignificant details everywhere.

They are not important to you, but they are important to many other people, 99,99% of games prioritize other things, let rockstar be rockstar.

Kc2 also has some nasty incredibly stupid limits on his ai that we discussed here and in the ot, like people immediately turning on you when you mistakenly try to sleep in their bed even if you helped them a lot like 5 min before that, the ai is faaaar from perfect, even the stealing system is a bit to rigid and unrealistic if you ask me, better than shite like the last obsidian games where you can steal everything with barely a problem, but far from perfect.

The game doesn't deal well with grey scenarios, it treat everything like a white or black situation for lack of better words, they are a long way from hiding the characters scripts from players and make look everything organic and natural.

Better than most but still flawed.

Gta6 or rdr2 are not full blown rpg where you can extensively talk with every npcs or enter every house or steal every single object on sight, they don't need this level of schedule\interaction, it would be absolutely wasted for a gta game.

What "micro details" are you exactly talking about?

Search micro details compilation on yt dude, there is an infinity of them to even start a list but you already know what i'm talking about when you cited the npcs actually cutting and eating their food in your previous post, it's all kinda of absolutely crazy stuff that you would even think about.

The whole rdr2 animal ecosystem alone has more stuff going on than most games on their entirety.

Well I mean theres considerably more details to 200 buildings with graffiti, broken windows, stains, stickers etc versus vast areas of grass and trees.

The world of Red Dead is more comparable to Kingdom Come than to GTA.

Animal ecosystem equals game system, and interactivity and reactivity are good. More of that, please.

A guy cutting individual pieces of meat is just a waste of time.

That's where I stand on this subject. Around 15 hours into KCD2, and I hate to say it, but its world feels more believable than Red Dead Redemption 2.
