GRAVITY Trailer

Man, every time I see the trailer, I go "Wow, that's absolutely insane and terrifying". Just imagining that scene playing out with no sound as she drifts off into space... trailer definitely got me interested in watching the movie - don't really care about the star selection.

What makes this sci-fi? Or does movie in space just automatically make it sci-fi?

I would say this is a drama set in space. Just because it's set in space doesn't mean it's Sci-Fi.

there are no robots, time travel, aliens, alternative dimensions, cyborgs, etc.

Exactly but I do like Clooney.

The 3D trailer was pretty awesome in front of Pacific Rim. Was this shot specifically for 3D or was it done in post?

Mentioned here: http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/motion-...ooney-and-bullock-on-a-cutting-edge-adventure

It was designed for 3D (on the title page for the script it said Gravity: A Space Suspense in 3D) but since it's almost all effects shots there isn't anything to shoot in 3D.

Love this part:
"Alfonso had an idea that he wanted the shots to be incredibly long, and I said, ‘How long?’ And he said he wanted the first shot to be really long. And I said, ‘You mean, 40 seconds?’ ‘No, 17 minutes.’ So it ends up the film only has 156 shots in the entire two-hour movie, many of them six, eight, 10 minutes long."

Saw the teaser before Pacific Rim in IMAX 3D. Watching it on a computer screen compared to that, it just doesn't compare at all. Most anticipated movie last year before it got delayed and easily again this year.

That's awesome. I can't wait.

I hope the sound effects in the trailer aren't in the film, as, you know, there's no atmosphere in space and therefore no sound. It should just be voices over comms, music and silence. That's all.
Apart from that I'm really looking forward to the film.

I really, really hate how movies use sound in space. I know audiences need sound effects in their movies to keep them satisfied, but fuck them. Make it realistic and direct around it for petes sake. Its so annoying hearing explosion sounds.

You would be surprised how many people think sound works the same in space, because of movies...

Music's pretty generic, yeah. That's a growing pain in Hollywood movies these days. But I'll be damned: that was a great trailer. It's brisk, lets viewers in on the situation, is a fucking tour-de-force in construction, &c.

Nice but it'd be much scarier without that background noise, instead with just their heavy breathing, radio voiceovers, and helmet noises.

Fuck that was beautiful !

Fuck I love Cuarón movies !

Fuck this movie sumarizes every phobia I have !

...Fuck

Also, that youtube link says Cuaryn xD

Other alternative: use the space shuttle damaged to go after her. If they are using space shuttles, the movie already is not aiming to be realistic.

How the hell do you shoot something like this? It blows my mind how directors are able to visualize this kind of thing.
With this:

Not only for the camera, but also robotic rigs for lights and actors and allegedly stage:

Here's the second trailer.

One freakin' shot for almost 90 seconds.

I keep thinking this looks fucking stupid.

Soundtrack is awful, and the "single shot" isn't nearly as impressive when it's all CGi, since really you can cut and paste whenever you like.
I also don't appreciate the crazy camera movement, i guess he was going for the disorienting aspect, given the circumstances, but it just goes over the top and feels more like a "look what we can do", reminding me of TinTin, which i hated for that reason.

Just a trailer, i know, but so far i'm really not digging this at all.
Also those CGi suits look kind of distractingly off.
Too bad, since it was probably my most anticipated movie of the year.

I still want to believe.

This trailer was much more better, far less cheesy and much more dramatic. The only quip I have with this film is that Clooney and Bullock look like CG floating faces in min-Stay Puft Marshmallows.

Cuaron said that to make the trailer more exciting, the studio added sound effects and explosion noises to the first trailer, but that there will be no outside sound in the actual film since obviously there's no sound in space. I can only imagine the same applies for this trailer.

That's a pretty bold move and shows a lot of trust towards the general audience's intelligence. I hope they get rewarded for their accuracy.

Me too. I have a bad feeling they won't however. :(

Can't tell if you're all joking. The CGI looks awful.

Well this is what I said:

Read on Faraci's Twitter that the industry buzz is that this is one of the best films of the year, whereas Elysium is a tad disappointing.

Can't wait. Not watching anything else besides the first trailer, so I have to fight the urge to click on that trailer link.

You're selling it short. They apparently had to develop all kinds of robotics to make this possible. It's why people like Cameron and DelToro says the movie is years ahead of its time.
