GRAVITY Trailer

Come on, people. It's not about how it was done, it's about the effect it has on you when you're watching it.

If you suddenly learned that the Copa Cabana sequence in Goodfellas was done digitally, it wouldn't change a damn thing about how the film affects you when watching it.

I don't disagree, but the trailer doesn't necessarily look like it has the type of CGI that doesn't distract me subliminally either :/
The vurtue of the long takes in the past was that the lack of cuts built a tension because it stripped away a layer of safety and artifice. Part of the genius of Children of Men was that it used effects sparingly enough to ignore them

Still pumped. Just sayin'

This sums up my life until October 4th:

This honestly makes me dizzy. Am I the only one?

I guess I never realized I had a true fear of just floating around in space.

I think it would be great for Hollywood to realize that vacuum = no vibrations = no sound, but it's not going to happen.
Then people would complain about the lack of sound and say that if they wanted that they went to silent movies. No winning this one :/

Exactly. Most people can't even bother to read subtitles for foreign language films. Imagine how they'll react when there's no sound at all. LOL.

I think it would also serve the movie very well from an artistic point of view. It will add to the sense of loneliness that the characters experience in space.

I get the "no feathers" dinosaurs even though that is scientifically incorrect, but this movie would artistically benefit from following basic science.

I'm guessing the Blu-Ray will have an option to watch a version of the film that obeys basic physics regarding how sound waves work.

i don't see where the problem here is. i see everybody knows about the sound in space nowadays, but why dont they complain about the sunprotection?
the sun is shining right into their eyes and face without the protection of the whole atmosphere.

From my understanding the helmet should protect eye against most of these radiations. The suit also does protect the astronauts.

EDIT: looks like the suits only offer limited protection against radiation and the astronauts would not survive a typical solar flare; I guess that's why astronauts do the things they do during low solar activity periods. That is another thing the trailer got wrong.

No sound would give the film a different feel, it'll have a bigger impact to see an explosion and its completely quiet. Not being able to see the actors face doesn't change the film enough to be worth it.

Best solution would be to release the blu-ray with a second audiotrack that accurately portrays the sound in space.

Edit:already beaten (should have kept on reading)

this movie is gonn be like about a movie with two people lost in the ocean except we dont just deal with gravity we dealing with ANTI gravity.

Shoiuld have been called that

Two hours of Clooney and Bullock in space with a 17 minute long opening shot. My body is so ready.

Also, it looks horrifying.

A 17 minute opening shot in space sounds great. I will be seeing this for the visuals alone. But i am also curious to see if this will be one of those films where we spend time with the main characters past, present and future while they come to terms with death and the life they lived before their possible doom (kind of like Boyle's 127 hours). Seems like it will be One of those drama/scifi blends like the fountain or Solaris or his own children of men? The info we have about it seems scarce not to mention a few delays so im all sorts of confused about it but damn am i looking forward to it regardless.

I really wish they didn't bust their nut prematurely by putting that shot in the trailer.

Maybe that's the 17 minutes shot.
Her drifting away, farther and farther, 10 of those 17 minutes being a white pixel shimmering on a black screen.

... Then a blink, Team Rocket style.

Awesome movie, sans the third act.

That still pisses me off even now. I loved Sunshine up to that point and then they go in that shitty direction. Me and my mate just looked at each other and were both extremely disappointed in how it ended. Still a brilliant film up to that point though.

Trailer for this has got me very excited, but waiting until October... :(

Can't believe we haven't gotten a Cuaron flick in in 7 years. Children of Men was such a punch to the gut of a movie, the kind you knew nothing about going in (the upside of being terribly marketed) and left you shellshocked at the end.

So far this looks more like a Duncan Jones "short story" type of project: less ambitious but with a core idea and a tighter focus on a couple of characters.

That looks amazing. Don't really see how this can fill 90min though but I definitely want to see it.

But.... Sandra Bullock and George Clooney? Ugh.

I'm very curious on how long this movie will be. Hell, anything longer than 90 minutes seems crazy for how you sustain a movie like this.

edit: i guess its a good thing he got two likable leads.

So the 3D trailer played before The Great Gatsby.

I have to say, very impressive in 3D. Great sense of depth. The end shot was pretty great in 3D too.

"I don't think the sting of moving a release date is as big as it used to be," says Warner Bros. film studio chief Jeff Robinov, who pushed The Great Gatsby from Christmas 2012 to May 2013 and was rewarded with $250 million in worldwide gross and counting. Warners bumped the Sandra Bullock sci-fi thriller Gravity from November 2012 to October 2013 and 300: Rise of an Empire from August 2013 to March 2014 to complete effects work. In Gravity's case, says Robinov, the complexity of the effects made it impossible to make the original date, but he believes the film can be an awards play in the fall. For 300, he says, Warners could have made the release date, but "we would have limited time to sell the movie with the effects in place."

Aww yeah. And yeah, the 3D trailer for Gravity played in front of my screening of Gatsby and looked pretty fucking great.

Possibly my most anticipated movie 2 years in a row. :P

Can't wait.

And can't believe that it's been nearly 7 years since Children of Men.
