Growlanser Generations question/impression thread

My birthday is coming up in a few days, and I was looking for something small my parents could pick up. I don't want them to spend too much seeing as how I got a car last year. I am gravitating towards asking for the GG Deluxe edition. Any impressions you guys would like to post would help, and anybody else who wants to know something as well, feel free to post your questions here. Thank you in advance.

There are battle-specific tips on the Working Designs Website Here. Escape is included.

Personally, I always went for the lower left corner, but the way on the website works, too. The major key is DASH. That Technique is invaluable. Hopefully you have a Wein that can get Dash. If you choose certain things in the initial game interview, it's difficult/impossible to GET Dash.

Wow, this board is ancient. Anyway, after doing some thinking, the GG deluxe pack was not worth it. I found the soundtrack somewhere else but the rest just didn't seem worth it. Man, $90 for a birthday gift from your parents is expensive? How the times have changed.

Oh, and since this thread was pulled out of the mothballs, it's perfect timing to mention that Shop MTV has a killer price on the Growlanser Generations Deluxe Pack they've been running since launch. You can get it for $66 with free shipping->here<-. The only downer is that they seem to run out frequently, and when they're out, it's for weeks at a time. But it's this kind of killer pricing that has kept the GGDP at #2 or #3 on their bestsellers for almost two months.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. It is a collectable and at $66 with free shipping, I can see myself picking it up. I haven't picked up the game itself yet so I might as well spend a few more bucks and pick this up. Thanks for the link.

whoa that MTV shop has tons of PSone square games for $14 including vagrant story

Holy shit you're right, but I am 100% sure that Vagrant Story and Xenogears are both the GH versions. I should e-mail them and find out.

Ack, i feel like i'm getting burn by Grow 2.

Initially i thought this game was going to be great, but after getting all the characters, i feel like i'm spending a bit too much time on battles and on the equipment screens.

Speaking of the equipment screens, it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the sheer variety of gems. The problem here iz that stores seem to be updating their stock after every major event or battle. So it becomes a real pain in the arse to keep up with all this junk (especially when the armors are expensive and the gems you want are spread out across different towns)

I thing i'm getting burned by most are the long drawn-out battles:(

Ok, I just started playing Growlanser II, and so far I likes it a lot. A lot more than I thought I would.

But why the HELL can I not get a Mission Complete on Mission Ruin Nation (where Hans shows up for the first time, the West Strakburg Ruins)?

It says to kill all of the monsters and not lose any of my men. So I do that, but all I get is Mission Clear.

Anyone? Please? I've done the fight 3x already. :(

There might be a time limit restriction on it which is required for some missions to get a complete. I forgot specifically what happens in that mission.

And Ackman sux.

He's a moron, I've never seen him post anything constructive.

You start off by fighting two Demi Yumis, both level 4. At some point, the walls get spikey and start to close in on you. Hans shows up and joins the party (the youth from Strakburg, one of the ones you helped save/evac. At this point, a sleeping Imp wakes up and 2 or 3 Guardian statues animate and join the fray... every couple of game-seconds, the walls close further.

Time limit huh? I guess I'll have to start over and pump my initial points into Dash. Damn.

Thanks Shouta.

Growlanser sucks. I hate to be negative, but get FFT GH version, it's a quarter of the price and about 1000x better.
:lol :lol :lol
That is extremely funny. I'm really sure you hate to be negative.

Anyway, have you played Growlanswer? Just curious is all.

Yes, I almost played through both games in Growlanser Generations until I got fucking sick of it.

INPUT COMMAND - > CHARACTERS MOVE AN INCH -> INPUT COMMAND - > CHARACTERS MOVE AN INCH -> INPUT COMMAND - > CHARACTERS MOVE AN INCH -> INPUT COMMAND - > CHARACTERS MOVE AN INCH -> INPUT COMMAND - > CHARACTERS MOVE AN INCH -> etc.

It felt like I was fighting a battle in slow motion or something. It's completely unfun, the battles flow horribly. The voices were HORRIFYINGLY OBNOXIOUS.

Do you think I've never played a strategy game? Do you think I would buy a $70can game with the expectations or hopes that it sucks, and I get to trade it to EB after deciding it's bad? Do you think I can't judge quality from shit? Believe me, I'm as "hardcore" a gamer as any of you jackasses think you are.

No, I never said that. I cannot possibly imagine where you drew that from. Especially if you are hailing FFT, which is one of my favorite SRPGs. I was just curious whether you had played GG is all.

The voices are WELL above the norm, as far as quality is concerned.

And the only way you'd be inputting command after command is if you had your finger glued to the Square button. :lol

Compulsive control fiend aren't ya? =P

I can see the complaint for Growlanser II which has way too many characters in some regards but slow motion and horrible flow battles have never even registered on my radar and I've played all four Growlanser games.

Huh, odd. Except for the Big Bad Boss Battles, my fights often clock in at under 5 minutes; and working the building screens is a breeze with the streamlined armor/gem interface. There really isn't that much to tweak besides skill selection at level-up, ring, and gem allotment, really.

I am having trouble with bad pathing sometimes, what with people falling all over themselves trying to go down a flight of stairs for instance. Single file, people, NO PUSHING. >_<

Okay, i finished Growl 2 last month, and i'm a bit surprised to see someone revive this thread.

Anyway, it's a great game, and i retract most of my earlier statements (although i still think there are way too many gems to choose from).

Haven't gotten around to Growl 3, but i will eventually in my rotation of games. It is indeed a huge hindsight by WD on the pathing.
