First, sorry it's taken so long to respond. You deserve a response but it's E3 week; so much to take in and this is a little more complex. Better late than never.
I've watched all three video's and read the article. Just a couple of points to make:
- The frame-rate test is a two minute forty six second video. There are circuits in the game with longer lap-times so I wouldn't consider it to be comprehensive/conclusive.
- In the same video, there's no environmental weather effects footage.
- In the same video, there's no night time footage.
Also, the writer says this...
Digital Foundry said:
As things stand, there's only so much that can be done within a highly constricted amount of render time available, and in this case it's clear that Turn 10's main priority was in maintaining a rock solid frame-rate with consistent controller response and top-tier physics, in order to deliver a stable, high-precision racing experience. And in those respects, Forza 6 totally delivers: we never see a single dropped or torn frame throughout the whole experience. From start to finish, Turn 10 achieves an unwavering 60fps - and in this sense, there is yet more refinement over its predecessor: the very rare glitches and hitches found in Forza 5 are completely excised from this sequel. Put simply, the rock-solid consistency is the icing on the cake.
What was the extent of their experience considering all the footage for the frame-rate video is dry daytime? Changing environments add technical complexities so why not include that footage from a performance point of view? Maybe they referred back to a demo?
Also consider the frame-rate footage was released on September 15th and the EU release date was September 18th. They would have got an early copy...but how early? Enough time to go through half the content and publish on September 15th? Maybe that gave them enough time to scrape the barrel and feel confident but it's not comprehensive enough to be conclusive.
I'd also like to point out how Turn 10's 'unfaltering' focus on frame-rate didn't appear to work on Forza 5, as the frame-rate test clearly shows. Nor did it work for Forza 3, as I already pointed out from experience.
It's underhand to publicly (and wrongly) accuse someone of lying to suit their own agenda, then to backpedal in the face of independent evidence. Your exact words were "Please don't play with the truth. You can get a message across without flat-out lying". You still don't seem to understand how that might piss somebody off.
And you still stubbornly say "All games drop frames" despite the DF analysis on FM6. This discussion is obviously going absofuckinglutely nowhere.
Let's face it, if Digital Foundry says it's stable all of the time, you take their word for it. You are informed on their terms and respond on that basis.
I'd say it's disingenuous to not offer footage relating to frame-rate analysis from more demanding scenarios, even though in the article they refer to environmental changes and imply 'From start to finish, Turn 10 achieves an unwavering 60fps...'. It's just too ambiguous. There's practically no chance they played Forza 6 from start to finish, never mind before that video was posted. Racing games are too vast and their objectives are different to a Eurogamer review.
As I asked above, contextually, what was their experience and why not show what they saw under more demanding conditions?
All this undermines the evidence, so why would I feel the need to back-pedal? I don't know how you ever thought I would back-pedal. I'm not that guy. I still believe games falter, independent of title, developer and genre.
Lets not forget, you also said
are people really expecting Forza-levels of unfaltering engine performance from the non-PSVR version of GT Sport, even after the tenth patch? I just don't trust PD to be able to deliver this. They haven't even said it'll happen. They said it's a goal.
For Turn 10 it's not a goal, it's a fundamental truth around which everything else is built, and that's the only way to absolutely guarantee it. Kaz doesn't care enough about 60fps and v-synch. He proved this with GT5 & 6.
But Forza 3 and Forza 5 faltered?
If you had just said its Turn 10s goal then everything would be fine
but you went beyond that for no reason by saying absolutely guarantee it which, as I have demonstrated, is not true. Turn 10 have form.
However, after all this nonsense, I do like how smooth Forza 6 seems across all three videos. In terms of performance it's way ahead of Gran Turismo. In particular, like the weight to collisions because it gives the cars more grounding.
On topic, Gran Turismo looks like it could be one of the most visually accomplished game I have ever seen but Kaz needs to double up on performance and little nuances that Forza does better. I felt GT5 was pushing so may areas there was room to be impressed and disappointed at the same time but GT Sport is a different beast. Dynamics have gone for now so I would expect frame-rate performance on par with Forza 6.
Finally, I am sorry if I offended you. I just thought it was disingenuous. Maybe I should have used that word so I'll be more careful next time.
