10mbps / 256kbps connection here. JP PS3 in Belgium with a Belgian account.
Impossible to join a race.

I'm 8MBit/512k, no problems apart from on the 26th or 27th. Online is totally broken.

Is it just me or is the GT-R really "overpowered"?
I don't get how this car can beat a F430 really, I wish there were more than one car to make it to the top of the ladder.
And the worst is you need to put so much effort with said a F430 to reach a bad time with a GT-R :-(.
Even with N tires and pro mode, it's still an easy car to drive.

/whine off

The GTR will have a vanila F430 on a track, but not the Challenge Stradale version. The GTR like all Skyline's allows you to get in the most terrible mess possible and bring it back. It's very very easy to drive on the limit. However the GTR shouldn't be faster than the F599, but it is. The F599 is ridiculously fast in real life. The R3 tires are odd, they make up for 4WD understeer and sway it in the GTR's favour.

As for the overall fastest, it's an easy way to keep track of times given permutations. The Pro challenges are there to cater for people who want to try with different settings.

For "overall fastest lap"

London 0'49.985
A little bump in the wall in what I call "the hard part" :), the second and third corners (the fast corners), but i think it made me loose some time rather than win :)

Daytona 0'48:698
Used the GTR since it seems u guys also used it, but the fastest car is another, the Corvette if I remember what I saw in the rankings correctly. Didn't buy it yet so, maybe another time.

Eiger 1'05:052
Lucky lap. I was behind marvelharvey's time and all of a sudden... sorry avaya :)

Fuji 1'42.282
I still suck here, and in this lap I even went wide in one corner. Not because I was trying some shortcut but due to "super-extreme late braking" ;) Anyway, i'm too slow still.

These were done with a sixaxis. Judging from GTHD and the Prologue demo I'm a bit faster with wheel (and a lot more consistent, 2nd and 3rd corners in London with the controller were driving me crazy), but i'd have to move the PS3 and the monitor around to be able to connect it so... maybe another time.

I'll have a go at the Pro challenges in the next few days. :)

PS: marvelharvey, I got to 50.2 or so in London in just a few laps, but you were right, I needed a LOT of laps to beat your time. :D

Nice times! I will have a go at these tomorrow if I can, I am rather too obsessive over F599 at Suzuka at the moment.

EDIT: Never knew GTR at Daytona allowed you to be easy flat through T1 and most of T2!

Daytona GTR: 48.658

The trick is to attack the corner at the exact time, vigorously, GAF style, as you seem to have found out already. :D

I just saw the best GTR time replay, FLAT all the way :lol

Ridiculous. His time is with a controller as evidenced by his T1, 3x left tap..pause..3 x left tap technique which reduces the amount of speed he's scrubbing off.

I really gotta spend more time on other courses other than Suzuka and in other cars except the Fezza's! Feel like I'm being left behind!

BTW very nice effort at London, nice lap. Was comedy at St.Martin's Place though (T2/3) :lol

I got lucky after the bump because I lost some speed AND caught the slide at the exact moment to do a fast T4. I remember that from that point onward, during that lap, i was pissed off at having bumped the wall, but then the last few corners, especially the last one, came out so well I was hoping for 50.0x or .1x, but got 49 instead. :D

T2/T3 is a bit of a lottery with a controller, though :)

Yeah tell me about it. I think it's more to with with carrying too much speed. Better to take the hit early to guarantee the lap.

I haven't touched London Forward since the GTR time, will have a go in the afternoon.

Great times man! A huge testament to how good a controller can be sometimes. I'll give your laps a run later but I won't bother with Eiger, it doesn't suit my driving style at all and I can't see me making much of an improvement without some serious practice... I'd rather be outside drinking beer lol

Glad someone finally beat my London time, I've still got 0.250 to improve upon, I'll try later (before the beer)

My 'Challenge' times will be easy to beat. I stopped the moment I lead our little leaderboard and didn't try to improve.

Regarding my challenge time at Fuji; you may notice that my time on the Sony server is slightly quicker than what I've posted here. On that faster lap, I accidently drove over the escape road after turn 2, it actually lost me time but I disallowed my own lap and posted my 2nd fastest lol

Had to use TC for this one, was getting 2'02:5x with no aids but corner exits were killing me. 2'00:0x should be easy with wheel <speculation>and no aids</speculation>. Marvelharvey this must have been one of your filler times you did initially, do a serious one please. :) Avaya have a go too (try no aids first if you're better than me at controlling those rear tyres with the sixaxis :))

Happens to me, over and over and over again, that kind of fast corner is hard with a controller. :)

And about the "Overall Fastest Lap" I don't see a point to do this, since many people only want to play on pro mode with N/S tires(Real GT for me), and to beat those scores you need to play on easy mode with R tires.

Maybe it would be better to do the same but with pro Mode and N tires?

Any thoughs on it?
Everyone is different, some find Pro/Ns too difficult, especially if they're using a controller. Having 50% of the races on Standard with Rs and 50% on Pro with Ns/Ss, everybody is catered for. As there aren't too many people with this game, I'm trying to appeal to a wide audience.

This coming weekend, they'll be a couple new challenges added... one with a special/rare GT memorabilia prize donated by Nofi.

The weekend after that (when most will be perfected their R3 lines), I'll add 5 'any car' Pro/N/S challenges.

Actually...

What are people's thoughts on the future of this thread?

-Keep on with the initial ones, shaving tenths off, then hundredths and becoming the best in the world
-Slowly add challenges every now and again, with no overall goal, just for fun.
-Have a set time period, say a couple of weeks or a month, to put in fast laps. After that a winner is declared and 10 new challenges are set.

Any other ideas as to what we could do? Whatever happens, when this finally comes out in Europe/USA, we'll be very very high up all the leaderboards lol

With TC again, of course o:) It must have took you 2 laps to make the 23.4x marvelharvey, it took me about 20 lol and i'm waaay inconsistent in this one. 22 should be easy with wheel, even 21 I guess. Lower than that dunno. :)

3:25 AM and work in the morning, gonna go sleep. Damned racing games, first LFS and now this lol.

you know i was going to say something. the challenges look like the WRS from GTP, they are great combos to work on, but just like avaya, i'm stuck in the online time trials. there's not enough time to do everything i want in the game, and in the last couple of days i spent my time racing online and doing some time trials.

i just had a good session with the wheel, i was on pace to make 2'04'5 and beat yo-suke's time but i botched the lap in the last chicane. also i'm second in daytona road, so right now i really don't have much time to do anything else.

but the idea of different challenges is great, i'm all for it. maybe if we mix it up, doing challenges but also keeping track at "how GAF drivers are doing in the online time trials".

also, i've tried at GTP to set up an online race and it can work. we log in online at 8PM GMT, 4am in tokyo, which means less people playing. we ended up racing with people we know. maybe - and just an experiment - we could set up a GAF race. altough we don't have private rooms, if we all log in at the same time and go to the same race, chances are we will probably gonna be racing with 3-4 gaffers.

what do you guys think?

This is how I race with friends in Europe, even though we're talking on the phone and we do a '3,2,1' countdown to press the Start button, it's still 50/50 whether we all get placed in the same race. If we were to do this, we'd have to be on MSN or something, to coordinate our race joining.

seattle6418 said:

This is great, but it means it'll be 4am for me lol

well, the timing is bad, but we can figure something out. it should be fun:D

btw, had a go with the corvette at suzuka east, just to see how that car feels on pro.

omg, that thing won't stop dancing, so much fun. to bad i already turned off the wheel. major countersteering with that car. i got 53'688, but still lots of time on the track

Actually, a lot of my times were 'beat Avaya' times, once I did that, I moved to the next challenge. With family staying with me in Japan, I don't have a huge amount of time to dedicate to perfect my TTing right now, after the 10th I have 3 days with no family staying AND still being on holiday... so I'll try my super-serious times then.

Although in all honestly, I SHOULD be using those 3 days to study my Japanese, but I'm not a good student.

My Pro times, Eiger and Daytona were all beat the current fastest times, well except for Daytona Roadcourse. I just got fed up with that one after 3 laps.

Serious efforts today/tomorrow then. Fuji and Daytona Roadcourse are annoying for me with a controller, the wide-open nature of the circuit just messes with my mind. Doesn't suit my driving style all that well/I hate the meandering corners (Fuji last sector)

Might try with TC for some of the N3 challenges but tbh I prefer it without it, I like the crazy.

I like flowing circuits like Suzuka. That's why I hope Silverstone(Copse, Maggots, Becketts, Stowe, Bridge, Priory, Brooklands, Luffield, Woodcote!), Imola (Piratella to Aqua Minerale!), Monza (Lesmo x 2, Variante Ascari, Parabolica) and Spa (no need to name names, ALL OF THEM) make it! Some Tilke tracks like Sepang, Shanghai and Turkey could be interesting too.

I think this thread will really explode once Prologue releases in PAL/NA. I think the winner thing will be more interesting when more people get the game. Right now just add challenges and keep on shaving off our best times. Add the reverse/alt courses to the list as well.

EDIT: Only had time to do Eiger today, GTR: 1:04.717

Improved a bit but there's still lots of time to shave. Who's up for 1'21?

OP updated with everyone's times.

BTW, there's no way I'm bothering with Eiger, I can't even improve on my own time, let alone get near you two lol. Fuji's the one for me, my Overall Fastest Lap was done within 8 mins of my first go and I can easily take a second off... and I didn't even do the little 'cheat'.

The irritating thing about Daytona Road, is you have to complete a full lap before you're up to speed. Why on earth they didn't move the start position back to the chicane, I don't know. I end up doing a 180 at the beginning, and driving back around the banking, before quickly turning around and building up enough speed.

do Fuji! I wanna see your best effort, also it would knock off some of the cheats at the top! :D

As for the Roadcourse, yeah I do the same thing!

I'm gonna have a go at the Clio at Eiger II today. Might try with some TC since I'm on the controller.

OK, these Time Trials will end at 12pm GMT on Sunday Jan 6th. That'll give everyone enough time to perfect their lines. Competitors will have to post their fastest laps in this thread by that time, if people post after 12pm GMT, they won't count.

Then, on Sunday, I'll post up 5 new TT challenges, 5 is enough to keep everyone occupied for a week, especially as we won't be in 'holiday' mode. These challenges will be Sim mode only, with Ss or Ns, so a tough few days lie ahead!

OP has been updated with a new Challenge from Nofi, this will be the final Standard/R3 challenge we have before next week's Sim fun, so get your times in.

However, this challenge has an added bonus, a special prize, donated by Nofi himself! A nice metal case for GT Concept that was part of a press release and never on sale, very rare. No game inside though, not that you'd need it with GT5P of course! This challenge will also end on Sunday 12pm GMT. 2.5 days to do your best!

<note>The case is a little heavy, if the winner resides outside of the UK, Nofi would like a helping hand with the shipping.

this one i have to try. london + elise + slicks = match made in heaven. now, kind of off topic, but i had to share my joy with somebody. after a 90 minute session i finally got P1 in one of the game's online time trials. it's nice that instead of giving your place the screen reads in english "TOP":D

now the really hard part: waiting until january 9th and hoping that Madforce will not improve his time...

Well, dusted off my dfp, i wasn't getting anywhere with the sixaxis in some of the events, turns out that wheel is better (surprise!) :)
All of these are with wheel.

Overall Fastest Lap:

London (GTR/R3) 0'49:625
Fastest lap in the rankings now but hell.. i screwed so many better laps. First corner was slow, last corner I had a little bump... 0'49:3xx is possible at the least. I'm tired of this :)

Pro physics:

Eiger Reverse (Clio V6/N3) 1'21:820
Still lots of time to shave. I could have done about 21.5 but wouldn't be surprised to see someone really good go near or into the 20's.

Daytona Road Course (M3/S3 tyres) 2'00:472
This was the one that made me go get the wheel. MarvelHarvey, dude, I was tired of getting to the last chicane about 1 second ahead of your ghost, just to see you fly past me into the chicane and saying goodbye at the exit. Even so, this lap didn't have such a good section before that chicane, and the chicane was also not as good as you did in your current lap. The perfect combination would be one of my other laps up to that point and then you'd do the chicane. :) Anyway, i think you won't have much trouble beating this, I guess when you did your lap you were just trying to beat my previous one and didn't push too hard. If you can do the chicane like that easily, you can take at least half a second off this, or more, in a few tries. Try with R3 too, I also got the top spot in the ranking but you should be able to beat it easily.

I'm gonna sleep. Damn you GT5P... damn these addictive racing sims. :p

Good work with this and London... top of the world ranking!!

Yeah, I do have a tendency to beat a time, then move on. I never really see the point of beating myself. Also, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to go under 2.00... however, I've got a fever right now, I ain't doing shit lol. I might set a R3 Pro challenge for that track on Sunday.

Fucking hell FirewalkR! How many Laps of London town did you do? :lol

Great time, congrats!

It took me around 20 attempts to get my 50.460 before I couldn't be bothered anymore!

marvelharvey, OP for Daytona free-4-all is a bit dodgy...

Also did a 53.558 at Suzuka East with the Vette couple of days ago. My session was interrupted so I never went on to improve the time.

A LOT! :lol

When i first tried it with the wheel I got to 50.0x almost immediately, and those came in droves but took me about an hour to get to 49. The first 49 I got was a 49.6 also but slightly slower than the ranking top. The following 2 laps were 49.7's, I got a lot of those and 49.8's afterwards. Must have been another hour or more before i beat it, and I screwed several laps where I was .2 ahead, mainly in the last corner. So... more than 2 hours... a hundred and something laps?

I suffer from the "just one more go" and "it's gonna be in this lap" syndromes. :D

Daytona (GTR/R3) 0'48.482
Gotta buy the Z06 to try to get to the overall ranking top :)

Regarding the The Dogtanian TT, I'll be excluding myself from the eligibility of winning the prize. As wonderful as the prize is, I'm not a collector and I'm the kind of guy who throws away game boxes as I have no use for them. So, the prize will be lost on me and should go to 2nd place!

And finally, meh. I keep doing the hairpin wrong.

Hope I got those right (and did all in pro too) because I didn't put them down at the time I did them, so I'm getting this from the main rankings option where I've got to select the track. Gotta learn japanese beyond a few katakana characters lol.

Updated the main post, managed a 1:11.336 on London, might be able to get under the :11 barrier with a little more work (I'm still running a fever, wouldn't believe how hot I feel after that bit of driving lol)

BTW gtmax, are you using a wheel or controller?

Edit: I've just given the wheel to my dad and exposed him to manual gears for the first time. He keeps changing up far to early and when asked why, he said "I'm trying to conserve the engine". He used to own the same car and always had pistons blowing up.
