London: G25 wheel, ran a 59.227 with my 350Z, pro settings, clutch enabled, gate-shifter enabled, R3 tires, all assists and managements off.

This is with the G25 wheel. So I'd like to see comparable races.

AlphaSnake

YAY! I'm #6 on Suzuka East with a 350Z. 58.395 - and only put down after four laps. I have another time that I raced with a controller and it would've put me in the top 3 I think. But whatever, G25 ftw!

Dunno why my other times don't register online. =(

AlphaSnake

Holy shit! 57.291 at Suzuka East with 350Z!!

I'm #3. And I feel like I have room for improvement. Look for Arnold K. WOOOOO!!

I got to the top in about 15 laps I think with a 03:0x but I cut a bit through the grass in the chicane (not coz i wanted to lol) so I must have done another 15 to get this lap which, I hope, is cleaner. First corner was crap though.

Driving Force Pro wheel, no aids etc, BUT i have no clutch (i wish, would probably be slower though.)

Shouldn't be hard to beat.

Had to use TC with the controller utter joke without it. Plenty of room for improvement there, took me 7 laps to beat the top time. This would be insane fun with a wheel.

Yeah, I did a 56 second run with my Driving Force Pro. I didn't save the game, like an ass, as I stormed out of the house, remembering I had to be somewhere. :lol This was before the online ranking, anyways. Also, braking with the G25 is a lot harder - the pedal is extremely firm.

The G25 wheel is dangerously addictive, though. I only own a 350Z in the game, since I'm too lazy to progress, and I put at least an hour or two daily. Next thing I know, I've done 36 laps on Daytona Road Course. =)

No way, dude. Change the accel and brake to the triggers - the game feels wonderful, then. Turn off all of those terrible assists. You ran a 1 minute lap with a 600HP car, where as I ran that same circuit at 57 seconds with a 300HP car. You have close to 10 seconds to shave off that time, man.

Suzuka East: 0:57.291 [w] - AlphaSnake

Can you check this AlphaSnake? Nobody online has broken the 1m barrier yet.

Edit: Oh wait, now your above post makes sense. You only own the 350z... which takes the whole challenge away :lol I wish I could donate some in-game money to you, so you could expand your garage!

London: 0'55:648 [w] - FirewalkR
Good lap! There's definitely 0.4 to make up 'conventionally'. However, on one lap, I made a whole 0.9s up on you in the final sector, but sadly, a crash at the beginning of the lap meant I was 2 seconds down anyway. How? I did some crazy 4 wheel drifting through the Haymarket chicane, but can't recreate whatever the controller inputs were, no matter how hard I try :lol So, with enough experimentation, we might be able to knock 1.3s of your time.

Will try :D

Now, regarding expanding the garage, what's the fastest way to get more money? With the A-1 event one gets 2 mil every... 3 mins or so (assuming one wins everytime which, of course, one does), but since completing the events a few days ago, i've been getting my finances up by doing the f430 mission race (s-8?), which gets me 3.5 mil in 4m40s, although I only win 4 out of 5 times (i tend to do something stupid from time to time, like crashing into the other ferrari after getting both ahead of the audis, getting better though lol), which may or may not be faster, but it's way more fun. Any better ways?

I have the fastest non-cheating R3/Standard time for East with the F599, could improve that by another ~1second which would give me a ~49.5s. F599 with Pro and N tyres is a different story entirely, if you finally get the money to buy it you'll see why :D

I can't use the triggers in addition to shifting, feels convoluted. I need to wait till I get my new wheel before I can really go crazy on challenges with N tyres.

Daytona oval in S-class or A-class. Boring but ruthlessly efficient.

Isn't S-1 a 10 lap event? Takes too long for 3 mil... Unless there's another oval event in the S class. Some quick math (assuming 50 secs/lap at daytona with the GTR, probably faster) says A-1 is a bit quicker than S-8. But i love the sound of the 430. :D

I haven't palyed the events in ages, yeah A-1 is fastest. I never did the heavy grinding though, I spent so long trying to get golds in pro-mode that I accumulated so much money.

Try the online mode. At the moment, there's a 5 lap Daytona race that pays out 3M for the winner and even 2M for 5th place. Playing with others certainly breaks up the monotony of grinding (but does mean you'll be mixed with assholes). Actually, I'm finding some people a pleasure to drive with, if they tap you off, they slow down and let you past. In fact, I spent all of this evenings alloted 'TT' time, to online... so I've got nothing to show for my hard work :(

Have to get info on what all the japanese and options mean in the online stuff. Anyway, the other day I entered a race in suzuka... i'd never seen so much lag (and so much mishandling of lag lol). Probably all from japan/us and since i'm in europe... however, LFS for example handles lag much better. The cars seemed like rockets zigzagging about all over the track.

Marvelharvey, I got London down to 0'55:13, and it's possible to gain 0.31 secs just in T1 (lol), which means 54.8.. 54.7 perhaps is possible without improving anything else. Now, that would imply a gain of 0.9 relative to my other lap, without drifting... how on earth i'd gain 0.9 secs in the last sector (i probably gained, say, 0.3 in that sector, relative to the 55.6x lap) is beyond me. Are you sure you weren't in Standard mode by mistake? :lol If not, please do that again and record the replay. :)
By the way, in this lap i'm loosing so much time in T1 because i'm shifting down too early when braking.

Don't worry, I have no idea how I did it either. But if you want some credits, I can translate the online stuff if you want. Actually, speaking of Japanese, I've just got too much studying to do to at the moment and can't participate much in these challenges. Avaya or FirewalkR, after these current events finish on Sunday, do you either of you want to start a new thread?

You're using the triangle button as the clutch? Does the clutch pedal work or not? if so, how do you set it up?

Sub 1min is more than possible, stopped when I beat your time.

I have another idea for a thread after this week finishes. Sort of a holding thread where we can catalogue everything till the launch of GT5P in PAL/NA.

0'59.919 o:)

Can go down quite a bit i guess. Kudos for doing it with the controller, dude. :)

Edit: scratch that, 0'59:451. Did it the 2nd lap after the other one, then i had 20 mins of screwing laps, a few 59's, and burned rubber.

Look forward to that, but seems that it will mainly be you and FirewalkR battling it out, with the odd cameo from others and me.

Looking at the official thread, there are a LOT of Gaffers with GT5P, yet nobody seems to want to compete with us lol. I've read a number of people comment something like 'I'll post up my time when I'm happy with it' but that takes away the fun. Instead of having a list of a dozen people on the board, there's just three or two names, with everyone else keeping their mouths shut. However, it makes updating a hell of a lot easier :D

THem sound like fightin' words. I'm always ready for a challenge!

I wish PD would sort the game out and allow you to host races. Someone should send them a copy of GPL from 1996 - show them how online is done.

Indeed, and I wish they'd randomise the grid. I have an ultrafast connection, and as a consequence, I always start from first place and never get a chance to overtake anyone... unless someone knocks me off at the first corner or I slow down.

BTW, GPL was 1998. I should know, I've already written the '10 year anniversary' thread :D Now, I just have to wait 10 more months before I post it :(

I'm going to guess that most of us in this thread all have GPL, maybe we should dust off our copies and have a race one day.

yep. i kind of feel ashamed of that. i was eigerly anticipating this, and then... latelly i just don't have time to play. i'm moving, starting a job in a new city, so i might be without my ps3 for 2-3 weeks starting next week.

i haven't played an online race in 5 days. still, if few people are playing, maybe we can narrow down to 1 or 2 challenges per week? maybe that increases the number of people playing?

OP updated, I might have an hour free to play at the weekend... I'll try to squeeze some GT5P in. Good luck with the controller Seattle, get some lessons from Avaya if needed... I don't know how he does it sometimes.

I will have a go tomorrow for as much of the day as I can. I think I have permanent skin damage on the top of my two thumbs. I will play using gloves now. :lol

Also noticed one thing in this thread...the serious players are all European or South American. I am not surprised.

not only in this thread, in other games, in gtplanet and most importantly somehow reflects real life. just look at F1 and see where those drivers were born. it's kind of funny actually.

i've run into dozens of takuma sato's and satoru nakajimas playing GT5 online. if you're into F1, you know what i mean:lol

one other thing, this bugs me ever since i started following GT in forums.

the vast majority of good players like to drive regular cars with sports or normal tires. no love for racing cars. absolutely no love for racing tires.

i mean...???

i feel like a noob, i love racing cars and racing slicks. i drive that 90% of the time (previous GT's). after joining GTPlanet in 2004 i just learned how to play with regular cars, because of the weekly racing series. i always thought people were like me, tuned or racing cars and R5's all the way.

WRONG:lol

anyone with some thoughts in this subject?

Well, looks like it's time to bring this to a close as I don't have the time to update or even play at the moment! Hopefully Avaya will start a new thread soon.

I'll do my best to join in the fun when possible ;)

Make a mistake in a Ferrari on R3s and it doesn't cost you too much, you'll be back up to speed in no time. Make a mistake in a Fiat 500 on road tires and you'll lose weeks trying to get back up to speed. I once did a real-life 24hr 2CV race, it was probably the biggest challenge I've ever experienced lol. Maybe this is why you're noticing 'veterans' taking this option.

Also, I'm guessing the great unwashed chavvy 'casuals' will always want to be choosing the events with the fastest cars and the stickiest of tyres. By choosing slippy-slower vehicles, the veterans might be trying to steer clear of these disrespectful 'drivers' who make up the majority of people I meet online.

OK, here's the deal. I don't want to create another thread for the same thing. However if we can update this thread every 2 weeks or so with times then it's OK. So how about it marvelharvey? I'll make the updates ready and post them all you have to do is copy/paste to the OP when you have time.

I think laying it out like this allows anyone to submit any time they want. Comparison's are now very easy.

Just to add insult to injury, my internet has been cut off... so it`s netcafes for a couple of weeks while my cable company get their shit together.

Anyway, I`ll update the main post with your pics... and as long as you keep the file names the same when you update, I probably won`t need to change the first post (until extra challenges are added)

I`ll keep all the text in the main body, just for some sort of back up until I`m able to use my computer again.

Hey guys any news on US release date?
and has online play improved since Japan launch?

Edit:

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Priced and Dated

It’s official - SCEA announced today the April 17 North American ship date for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, available exclusively for PS3. Developed by famed Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be available for $39.99 on Blu-ray Disc (BD) and as a download via the PLAYSTATION Store.

The BD version will offer added value with an exclusive behind-the-scenes High Definition (HD) video feature called “Beyond the Apex”. This video will offer some awesome access to the folks at Polyphony and give some background on how they are able to create such a realistic and beautiful driving simulator. We’ll have more information on GT5 Prologue leading up to its launch in April.

from the official playstation blog.

March huh, the wait continues, I wonder if online will be available day 1....

I'm having trouble downloading the online update. I don't know what's wrong. Is there any other way to get the update?

Just bumping this thread up for the Euroland.

Sadly, I go on holiday for two weeks, the very day GT5:p comes out in Europe, so I won't be around to update this thread. Avaya, Nofi, FirewalkR, Seatle, Goldrusher or whoever, you might want to start a separate thread.

If however, you're patient enough, I'll get one going upon my return.

Are you buying the PAL version? Or sticking it out for a few days and downloading the JPN patch?

I already have the PAL version on order. Now I find out the JPN version gets full patch as well.

GTTV on PAL version and Beyond The Apex in English is worth it for me though.
