Only benefit for Steam version is for the +1 and achievements. Steam users will still have to launch Social Club.
Don't state that as a fact. It's far more likely that Social Club will be integrated into the game just like in the Steam version of Max Payne 3. As an overlay you sign into one time on the first launch before you get to the main menu in the game, set it to auto sign-in and never see it again.

Fair enough. Even if they don't have to actually "launch" Social Club, they still have to use it. The benefits I listed for the Steam version is still the same.
That depends on how the game works with their own launcher. If it's just an exe that launches the game and you don't need to use the thing people have to download it with now, then yes adding it to Steam would make it work the same way.
If you are required to start some Rockstar Social Club launcher before launching the non-Steam version, then adding it to Steam would create the situation where you launch it through Steam to get a Social Club window where you launched the game. Which no one really wants.
This is all assuming the Social Club login will work the same as in MP3 did on Steam.
And if the Rockstar download doesn't require a separate launcher, then it's fair to say Steam won't have one either and just the in-game Social Club login.
Yeah, everyone will have to use Social Club no matter where you buy it. But it really isn't a big deal at all if it's just a one time thing. The only problem would be if their servers can't handle the load at launch, but then everyone is fucked no matter where you bought it.

If you link the game exe directly it will work after launcher even if the launcher is a separate exe.

I agree. I just see some people adamant on getting the Steam version. I was just saying there really isn't much difference except for a +1 in your Steam library and Steam achievements. Some people are acting like they won't be able to play online with their Steam friends.
We don't know that. That is the most likely case since it's only a 1-time online activation on first install. But launching the exe might still start up some Social Club launcher first and then run the game, I've had that happen in the past for other games.
Like if I try and play Rocksmith directly from the exe without launching Steam I get this.
Instead of showing that, it could just start up whatever launcher the game might have and then launch the game.
But this is totally not related to the main point that Steam would have some separate Social Club launcher on top of Steam like Uplay or whatever. If the Rockstar version is able to be launched directly from the exe, then so will the Steam version be and you just sign into Social Club in the game.
I got the Steam version mainly because I like to have all my games in one place if possible, I didn't really care about it being more expensive, I gladly pay for convenience.
And IIRC all Rockstar games uses the Social Club friendlist, so yeah it doesn't matter where you get it since you have to add everyone you want to play with anyway.
Sweet, thanks for the heads up. This is one of the very few games I would buy at launch and it was nice to get roughly 50% off! It's downloading with 6 hours left right now.
I was having issues with the purchase but it finally worked. First nuveem didn't seem to like Brazil, so I changed that to Chili to get rid of the error 404 page. Then I had to go to the homepage to create an account otherwise it would keep freezing if I tried creating one from the cart/pay page.

After going through the first page, I'm a little confused about the no region lock. If you bought the game through this way, is there still a chance/risk that the game may not work this April 14 for US gamers?

Worth the risk though, as it unlocks on April 13th at 4PM PST. Not sure if Steam is the same, but if it isn't then it's 30$ to play it first! Assuming it works anyways.

Well this sucks. When I launch the Installer app, it just stays on "Loading..." for a while then the client goes into offline mode. Can't download the game.

Ehh... while it's tempting, I would hate to take a chance in the game not working because of some DRM or region locking enforced by Rockstar. I'll just go for the Steam version instead. I have some money in my Steam wallet that I need to spend anyways.

Turn off HOLA cause it can interfere with the connection to programs. (I might be wrong but I think people fixed it this way)

Sure, but the page is intended for consumers and still hasn't been updated despite retailers now having keys. R* would have decided on region locks months ago and my point was that it wasn't under any obligation to inform Nuuvem of the nature of the keys if they were restricted in any way -- region-locked for activation, region-locked at the runtime level and/or "languge-locked" to Portuguese -- since Nuuvem isn't officially supplying them to international customers and offers exactly zero support to those who use a VPN to buy purchase-restricted keys. Also, I said myself that the keys would likely be region-free; I was just making it abundantly clear that nobody could say for certain until somebody outside of Brazil attempted to use theirs.
(I know this is a late reply and a largely redundant one at that, but I missed your post earlier.)
Now I'm terrified I've wasted my money D:
The Green Man Gaming VIP Sale has it for $46 though. No Steam support of course and not as good a deal as Nuuvem, but still cheaper than Steam and their keys are always good in the US.

It will still be cheap on nuuvem after launch, the price might go up 10% and you won't get the pre-order bonuses but that's still way cheaper than anywhere else.

nuuvem will always be a bit cheaper regardless, so hope to rob some banks with you online when you're all sorted.

I'll be in the pc thread some day soon, can't wait to try out heists with GAF. Also works out because I imagine GTA online is gonna be dead for a while until launch day hype cools down a bit.
The Steam version doesn't have unlock time set yet, oddly enough.
I'd say the risk of it unlocking later on Steam are small, people would go crazy.
Personally I wouldn't really care, since the current countdown would unlock it at 1AM for me. So I might just install the game, go to bed and wake up early.
