GTA 5 PC Custom Radio Station Details (Self Radio)

The fact that your vehicle's radio sounds slightly muffled from the outside if you leave the engine running makes this even cooler. R* tier detail.

Can't wait to play some of that sweet synthwave while driving at night with neon lights. damn

Never even thought of this you sir are a genius. You should check out Perturbator, M.O.O.N., Dance With The Dead, Lost Years etc. Hotline Miami really got me into New Retro Wave.

Erm, I think this has been a stable ever since GTA3. The commercial breaks and DJs are new though.

Commercials have been available on the custom station since San Andreas (but it was super rare for some reason). DJs since IV.

Spotify integration would've been too good, I guess. I barely have anything I'm currently listening to on my hard drive in .mp3 format, so I'll stick to the in-game radio. Which, by the way, is fantastic no matter what people say.

I remember it was supposed to have been a feature of APB that you could play online and have other people listen to your soundtrack if you were the driver of the vehicle. Of course it was just one of countless cool concepts they couldn't realize. That was a ton of legal problems with it.

Self-radio has always been interesting in GTA PC. in any PC game you can alt-tab out of game and put on music, but it gives it an extra dimension when it plays when you are inside a car, and the audio level changes in relations to other ambience, voice acting and such. that is niiccceee.

My favorite car fun fact is that you can hear the enginge clicking while cooling off when you get out of the car.

I wish the PS4 version would get that feature, too. Sounds great, especially with the radio banter/commercials.

Sounds great. However nearly all my music is from iTunes and knowing Apple I won't be able to use them. Guess I'll have to make another 2GB of music folder.... Unless there's an alternative?

Couldn't you just copy it from the regular ITunes folder? It's not like they have DRM on them.

Wait so I can DISABLE COMMERCIALS this time around? Thank god, sometimes I'd get like 5min of straight commercials in GTA IV. No more.

The fact you can have them make it into a proper radio station, with ads and DJs, propels the feature up from "cool" to "awesome". Rockstar doing good work with the PC version!

It's been present in many games like Sleeping Dogs, Saints Row 4 and Far Cry 4 to name a few.

I want to drive you through the night... down the hills
Love the song but this part sounds like you killed someone and want to hide their dead body.

Does it work with just shortcuts too?

You can use symbolic links to link the content of one folder to another. So you can keep it in your normal music folder and sort of a shortcut in the radio folder for the game.

No, unfortunately. Some of my bought music via iTunes is DRM'd from some years ago (they stopped DRM in 2009). There are ways round it, I think. But involves some jiggery pokery. Hopefully I can sort something out.
