GTA 5 PC Custom Radio Station Details (Self Radio)

Why was this not added to the PS4 and XB1 versions?
Who knows. In Test Drive Unlimited on the X360, you could import a playlist for a custom radio station, yet this functionality seems to have been ignored by most games since then. No idea why.

It's a killer feature if you ask me, especially for GTA.

1) This feature is usually PC-exclusive
2) Can you even import MP3s onto these consoles anyway?

There have been five console 3D GTA games. Out of those five, three have supported custom soundtracks on a console. (The Xbox version of 3, VC, and SA supported custom soundtracks). So I wouldn't say the feature has been a PC-only thing.

Now whether or not the current gen console makers have support for MP3 importing, that's another question. The last gen consoles do, so, what's the story? Just didn't want to bother is my thinking. Otherwise last gen version could have had this feature on release.

Because apparently the OG Xbox was more capable than these consoles when it came to custom soundtracks. Seriously, the 3D trilogy had custom radio stations on Xbox, but neither GTA IV or V had support for it on PS3/360 and PS4/XB1.

Yep. You could rip your CDs onto the Xbox hard drive and play them in GTA Vice City. Did it all the time back in the day. You could do it for 3 and San Andreas too.

Ah, didn't know the original Xbox did that. FWIW, the mobile versions of those games also have support for it.

Come to this thread for glorious 80's synthwave. I am just going to play this music and nothing else. But good suggestion hopefully modders will do that.

I need this in mp3 form, now.

Good on them for allowing custom music still. After removing songs from VC and SA over the years, I worried they'd kind of 'lock' what you heard in the game.

There's also the mobile versions of Chinatown Wars.
I'm kinda curious about why it's Self Radio now. Independence FM seems like a more creative name.

So I feel like an idiot but how do I get the game to find my music?

it asks for a scan but it never picks anything up. Do I need to drop the files somewhere?

Only thing I've read is "specific folder" but have never seen this folder actually named.

I would also like to know this fabled folder.

I'm sorry for the half-assed reply, but it's something like My Documents/Rockstar Games/Grand Theft Auto V/music. Not sure what that last folder is called, but it's something along those lines.

Oh fuck yes. I'm prepping Perturbator, Mitch Murder, Power Glove, Dance With the Dead, M. O. O. N, Kavinsky, Goblin and so much more.

I tested it by putting a regular shortcut to my music folder in User Music and it works. Even the MP3's that are in subdirectories.

or have Rockstar integrate them into a radio experience complete with commercial breaks, station IDs, bumpers, and banter between DJs Cliff Lee and Andee, who you may remember from Lips 106 in Liberty City Stories. In the pause menu you can choose whether you want to have the songs play in the order you have them in the folder or to let the game analyze the collection and build a playlist order.

So dope!

The devs should have opted out of calling it Self Radio and maybe had a quick animation where your character pops in his iFruit with his jams loaded on it.

"iFruit Detected"

Such a miss!

Anyone know how to make the 'my radio' the default radio all the time?
Every time getting into a car and setting 'My Radio' is kinda silly.

Dumb question but I haven't had the chance to play yet today to test. Do I have to drop the MP3s directly into User Music or can I drop folders containing MP3s into the User Music folder as well?
