GTA V has gone gold.

GTAIV was sad in the pants.

Have to say this hype for GTAV got me to play Lost and the Damned (which sucks just like everything else about GTAIV) and some Bully. Bully so far has been very entertaining and was enjoying every minute of it. It's kind of hard to play games that have aged so much but its still a good deal of fun.

Gta 4 just let me down, graphically awesome, cool physics, I felt the sandbox nature of the game was a bit gone though, missions were more linear, cars while more realistic, were just a chore to drive in the grid like city, the cops were annoying, spawning everywhere it got to the point where I didn't even mess around much because they were so overbearing.

Game just felt ...not all the way there. I have hopes GTA5 is there "all that and the kitchen sink"-effort, like SA was on ps2.

Have the crazys at GTAForums figured out the # of Square Miles for V's map?
The Scotsman article mentioned 49square miles, i think.
I'm really curious to see all the different wildlife the game has to offer. Is there any concrete info out there about how many different animal species we can expect to see?

We know of what, only 5?

-sharks
-dogs
-coyotes
-deer
-rabbits

I'm hoping there are snakes, bears and cats (domestic cats as well as cougars and bobcats, etc.)

The Animal database on GTAF is down now, but they had a much longer list, all with link to the sources (mainly screenshots and previews).

I didn't really get into GTA 3 or SA so I never had that full on experience that made people fall in love with the games. So I really hope 5 turns out to be that so I get to find out for my self what makes these games great.

I agree with every point you have about GTA4. The world was beautifully recreated, if a bit dated today. The sense of place and time is really tangible. Except the problem is it's not at all fun to play, good god is the game frikin boring.

I am glad I stopped playing it when I got to shanghai tho, Waiting on the Directors Cut edition with unfucked bosses.

also.

SR2 >= SR4 > SR3 > SR1

GTAIV was sad in the pants.
GTAV is the game I was expecting after San Andreas on ps2 (9 years later....).

The bosses were fine for me but i did a mid stealth build so i was not handicapped but i plan to rebuy it for the wiiu i am hoping the price does not go above 39.99.

I think cougars were confirmed because Rockstar hates us.

The actual city looks small as fuck. Way smaller than GTAIV's.

This is from a recent interview in Games Master magazine with Aaron Garbut, the GTA V art director:

I have a link to the scans, but I don't think you're allowed to post them here.

I think the map will be about 20 square miles. San Andreas was 14 square miles.

Being the sick bastard I am, I want to see how the animal euphoria looks when I smash into them with cars. Cougars ain't got shit on me now.

I just bought the "V" t-shirt from the Rockstar warehouse. Hopefully by wearing it my hype level will go down significantly, to the point where I can start finding meaning in my every day affairs.

Hopefully.

I'm mostly interested in this quote:

Which means GTA V's budget(if the report is true) in USD is $265 million.

That seems...insane.

Jesus. If that figure is true... I don't know. I'm sure GTAV will easily turn a profit, but those kind of numbers make the future of the AAA industry seem troublesome.

Edit: I also have to wonder if a port to next-gen consoles will happen.

I really don't think this game will be making the jump to next gen consoles. I don't think they would want to put in the time/resources to port it to a brand new system that they have little familiarity with. Maybe if they didn't already spend 5 years working with current gen for GTAV. PC for sure, next gen systems I'm gonna have to say no.

That's a huge budget for a video game, for sure, but GTA V is most definitely in a class of its own when it comes to scale, ambition, and production values. The only game that comes close is the $200 million for Star Wars: The Old Republic and everyone laughed at that number for months prior to - and after - that game's release.

If it's ported to PC, then it'll definitely be ported to next-gen consoles. The new consoles' architectures are very similar to mid-tier PCs, unlike the PS3's cell architecture.

Considering both the PS4 and X1 have architectures very similar to a regular PC, I don't see why it'd have to take much time getting familiar with it. From what I understand if they can port it to the PC, porting it to these consoles shouldn't be much trouble. And with the game's budget the size that it is, putting it on two more platforms really can't hurt, can it?

That's the exact opposite of what I was thinking. If anything, a budget like that suggests they're going to need to release on next gen and PC. But I've never pretended to really know anything about such things. You may be right. :)

PC sales will not generate much, neither will early next gen sales

I'm wondering if there's going to be a preload option for NA... at least one day before launch.

Has there been anything mentioned about this for PSN orders?

As it is I will have to wait till 5pm on the day I can buy the game from the local stores, then if it's not pre-loaded it's another wait for the download...

It's about future proofing. If Rockstar is serious about supporting GTA Online over a long period of time and expanding on it meaningfully, then GTAV will eventually be on PC and next-gen consoles. That's a given.

There is no sense of scale when looking at a map. "A city, a lake and a few mountains" doesn't sound big, but the landscape in various trailer shots looks incredibly vast. The mountains aren't just little video gamey mountains, they look genuinely gargantuan. But all you need to hear to know that the map isn't small is to just listen to Rockstar -- "bigger than RDR, San Andreas and IV put together".

Yes but when you overpass vinewood hills you are able to see the rest of the map and that make it looks smaller.

I shall work on the thread more tomorrow.

I have a lot done but a significant amount to do still.

I will keep you all posted.

You had 5.5 years to work on this thing and you're telling us it isn't ready yet? You had ONE job, Bucket. ONE.

They tried that, but some people were impatient idiots and the preload was pulled.

It sucks. I preordered digitally, and now shudder at the thought of trying to download ~18 GBs (or hell, even getting the store to load) while a million others are trying to do the same.

I still hold out a microscopic hope that they'll have a preload before launch. Even if it's just a few days before launch, it would help ease the server load immensely...but that's probably not going to happen now.

Pre-order numbers here are insane.

In the UK alone, over 3m and over 2.5m in USA, overtaking CoD which has only 450k pre-ordered.

The budget, £170m is absolutely huge too.

Massive news. I'd make this into a thread, but I'M STILL A JUNIOR AFTER A YEAR OF BEING HERE AND I'M STILL UNABLE TO MAKE A THREAD! [:(]: Sam Houser has given his first interview in three years to the UK's Sunday Times.

Original source is here, but because it's behind a paywall, I summed up Sam's quotes here.
