GTA V has gone gold.

we have seen the two highest mountains in Blaine County and there is no snow.
The zancudo mountain is also arid.

In that pic there seems to be snow in a flat landscape. I really have no idea on where they are going to put it.
If it's another location like Liberty in SA I hope we can take a plane and fly visit it, it would be a waste not allowing that.

my guess is that:

is in Canada, I know it's a rumor originated on gtaforums but it would be really intriguing. oh canadaaa!
It looks like sand to me.
Sand with and old effect on the card.

An Spanish magazine hinted that there would be a mission à la Saint Mark's Bistro. I don´t know if they were regurgitating Internet rumors or had actual knowledge about that. It sounds very likely imo, but even if it´s true, I doubt we can access it in free roam outside that mission.

How you can't see it's clearly snow is quite confusing.

The road is slush ( like you see when it snows), there are snow flakes coming down, it's white and the way the sides of the road looks is very similar to that of snow ( like it's built up of snow)

I mean it's possible we won't get snow but that is defiantly snow.

Must suck having to wait for it while everyone's enjoying it and talking about it. I wouldn't be able to do it.

I am just the opposite. I would hate to ruin it for myself by playing an inferior version first.

That would make the impact of the proper version a lesser thing.

Though I admit that I am tempted to buy a 360 or PS3 version at launch just to be able to post screenshots. Nobody seems to post good console screenshots on GAF so the territory is ripe for the taking.

I get what you're saying as I faced a similar problem and decision. I wanted to wait for a PC version to enjoy it without tech issues but I simply could not wait a minimum of 3 extra months to play this. If I felt like it was going to be another GTA 4 I could have waited, but not for another San Andreas.

Come on, man. You can bathe in the glory of the PC version later, but still enjoy the game itself while you wait. It is going to be the same great game, either way.

I don't speak for Dennis, but depending on the severity of the technical issues I can't enjoy a game at all. And since this is a GTA game we're talking about....

I couldn't imagine being such a graphics whore.

Complaining about graphics in a gta game lol.

ur doing it wrong.

I think we're more worried about things like framerate, tearing, draw distance, foliage/popluation/vehicle amount, IQ and jaggies instead of just pure graphics quality.

If the PS3 version looks pretty close to what they've been showing then I'll be happy for the most part as long as it runs at 30fps or close to it most of the time.

I'm not saying it can't be snow, infact, that's what it looked like to me, too at first.
But i'm going with a pessimist version of Occam's Razor and saying that it's probably just sand that looks like snow due to the weird lighting used in the card, and that "snow falling" is the "old" effect i was talking about.

I guess they could have an extra area like they had snow in GTA;SA, a single, linear mission outside of the San Andreas state, however we've seen Mt. Chilliad's top, and it has no snow, where would they put snow, in the map?

So bottomline:

It's either snow in a linear, separated mission outside of the San Andreas state/game map.
Or it's sand and it looks like snow due to weird lighting.

These are my two guesses, as always, i prefer to expect less and eat delicious crow, than set myself up for disappointment.

Do you play games for graphics or for gameplay?

Isn't Occam's Razor usually the simplest answer? Yours is a hideously complicated answer.

It's snow. Snowflakes are falling, the road has icy slush on it and there is an accumulation of white powder on the ground.

Fair enough, but the biggest reason to beleive it's snow is the road ( especially the reflection of what seems to be the sun). The roads seems to be like slush and melted, causing the sun to reflect
see:

But yea. I also feel it may not be a big part of the game ( like a mission only)

I thought about it, but frankly:

1) I am simply not able to wait it out, when everyone else is playing it and i know i'll get spoiled all the cool shit, if i don't get it D1.

2) I know that it'll be worth the double dip, thanks to the massively better graphics and mod community, on PC.
If it's not worth double dipping, it means it turned out to be one hell of a disappointment.

I double dipped for GTA4 and i enjoyed it more on PC, thanks to the modding, despite having it already finished a couple of times on 360.
Same with previous GTAs (3, VC and SA).
I would also double dip for a PC version of RDR, should it come out tomorrow, despite having already played it on 360 several times.

Well my idea is that it's a part of the map that we've already seen (the desert) that looks just weird because it's from a promotional effects applied.
It seems more absurd to think that there's a whole part of the map never shown that is different in geography enough to justify snow, in Southern California, when we've already seen the top of the highest mountain in the game, which is completely arid.

However i think the "single mission with snow" hypothesis is also a perfectly valid one.

You also have to consider the postcard says "Greetings From North Yank___."

#teamsnow.

Yeah, i'm starting to get more and more convinced by the "separate mission" theory.
San Andreas had one, it wouldn't be absurd.

But i'm the only #teamsand supporter, if i cave, who's gonna defend it?

There was snow in GTA: Liberty City Stories for PSP, too. But only if you used a cheat tool, if I don't remember wrong.

Different seasons as in Mafia II would be absolutely amazing.

Seasons are a possibility since CVG preview talked about a calendar app.

Why are people getting all worked up about snow. It might just be a seasonal postcard showing what the region looks like in Winter, it doesn't necessarily mean that the area will have snow in the game.

#teamsnow
I want to believe.

I want an Animal Crossing/GTA hybrid where the season represents the time of the year. I'd be so happy if I could kill all my annoying fucking neighbours in AC.
