GTA V PC Performance Thread

Can't wait for benchmarks. I really interested to see what I can expect with my PC.

FX 8350, 8 GB RAM and HD 7950.

Of course I do not expect that the game will run on max settings in 1080p 60, but still...

you can always downsample

Right! I followed a guide once posted on guru3d but the result ended up killing my frame-rate. On the plus side there was no more need for anti-aliasing :p

I'll probably hold off on a sale since it would be triple dipping at this point, but if anyone has around a 750ti level of GPU I'd appreciate hearing how it runs.

Running the i7 920 and a GTX 980.

I'm not even worried about my CPU.

I'm convinced the 920/30 is going to last forever. lol
Yeah, I'm with you. My 920 @4.2Ghz is 5 1/2yrs old and there's the possibility that DX12 might breathe even more life into the aging quad-core. I spent $190 on this cpu in the fall of 2009 and even then it was already used. If it went tits up tomorrow, I'd still feel satisfied with the years of awesome gaming I've gotten out of it.

I had no issues with the new Nvidia drivers. I downloaded from the website and installed and all was good. Hopefully there will be no issues with the game when it's unlocked.

I'll download the drivers in the morning. I'll let others be the guinea pigs.

I'd be very surprised if they released another set of drivers for the game anytime soon. It makes sense to just get the drivers now, and just try the game tomorrow.

I'm not too worried because the PC that they demo'd the game on, "i7 5930k@3.50GHz, SLI GTX 980, 32GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD according to PC Gamer" is rather similar to mine...

My Rig...
  • Intel i7-3950k @ 3.5Ghz
  • ASUS X99-Deluxe
  • Corsair H105 CPU Cooler
  • 16GB G.Skill DDR4 2400
  • 2x Gigabyte GTX980 G1 Gaming in SLI
  • EVGA SuperNova 1000 P2
  • Enthoo Primo Full Tower Case
  • 256GB SSD, 3.5 TB of total HDD space
  • 1x BenQ GW2765 2560x1440
  • 2x ASUS VW266H 1920x1200
  • Freedom WSGF Edition Ultimate Desk Stand v1

I game on the center 1440p screen so I think I'll be fine.

It's not about waiting for a new set of drivers. It's making sure the new ones don't bork anything while I stick with my current ones.

It's being overly cautious, but there's really no harm in waiting for me. I wont be playing it til tomorrow anyways. Not staying up to midnight only to find the servers are overwhelmed.

What's the highest console performance? PS4 1080p stable 30fps? I want to see some benchmarks at 4k 60fps...i hope the game ships with unlocked FPS support, just to see how high it can actually go

So any word on CrossFire support for GTA V on release?

Kind of getting worried, there's no profile for it in the current release.

Isn't there a way to force it somehow?

It has been confirmed framerate is not capped at 60fps but that does not mean 120/144 hz are supported.

Finally got a chance to play GTAIV and Episodes and maxed the settings out. Bottomed out at 39fps (averaged around 60) at 1440p on OC'd 970's with a 4.4ghz 5930k. Game is poorly unoptimized so I have high hopes for 5.

Sadly it was a terrible port, but Rockstar have shown us what they are capable of when they released Max Payne 3 for the PC. That was an amazingly optimized game, ran very well and had the graphic options to match.

If that's any indication at all, gta5 should be very good as well :)

Just sold the 760 to my roommate because his 750 ti had a DPC latency problem and he was returning it, but we still both wanted to play GTA together at launch. So I upgraded to a 960 sort of on a whim. I'm looking forward to what sort of performance I get, but with my 4960k and the 960, I think I'll have a pretty beefy rig.

going off what we know you shouldn't have any problems

That sucks...:/ I wonder why those are supported? Should it not be able to go as high as the HW can run it? I know with DMC4 that fps can get up to insane levels

In the event of a RSC meltdown can single player still be played?

Assuming you can get through to get the game fully validated /decrypted/unlocked, I would hope so.

And it's a matter of when, not if Rockstar social club melts down. It barely holds together with the current crop of releases. Social club went down twice over this past weekend that I know of. Throw in a whole new wave of players, on wildly varying machines, it's going to be a shitshow.

With AMD's track record it'll come in their next driver update which might be like a month unfortunately. It took them several months to get CF profiles for games like Far Cry 4. In fact AMD's driver update frequency seems really miserable. Nvidia is at least consistently releasing updates every month or around the release of big titles.

It has not been confirmed as far as I know that the game can run at such extreme frame rates. I remember San Andreas being pretty buggy when framerate exceeded 30fps for instance.

Damn I need to replay that game but I don't know how/if it will run on modern OSs, hardware and drivers.

That's why I have high hopes for 5 seeing it has been optimized to run on multi core current generation platforms. I would be fine with similar performance given how much better 5 looks but I fully expect to run this at 1440/60.

Just found this on overclockers.

AMD GTAV drivers coming today! Woo!

Excellent.

Nice move AMD, should make quite a few people happy. I expect crossfire support will be included in the driver release?

I don't give a shit about 4k, 1080p all the way. I think I'm set.

So the nvidia patch just stealth introduced gsync for windowed mode? That should be big enough news to mention in the patch notes I think, since it basically removes the only drawback of the tech.

To overclock, or not to. Hmm. My CPU is an i5 3570k, what's the simplest clock speed I can safely achieve? 4.0 at least, right? I have an Evo 212 cooler.

Now THIS is the thread I've been waiting for!

4790k @ 4.8Ghz + GTX 980 FTW + 16GB ram

Hoping I can pull 30+ fps @ 1440p.
No don't say that! I was hoping my 780 Ti would could pull somehing like that. Now I'm not so sure. Y u do dis.

If someone could come in and say something like "I hope my integrated GPU will pull 4K 60fps", that would really boost my optimism.

I am hoping to get 720p/60fps on my Pentium 4 and 9800 GTX.

8320 + 290 + 8GB ram here. Really interested in seeing how this performs at 1920 x 1080.

Good to hear about the AMD drivers.

4.2GHz on air easy! That was my old setup before I went with an H100i. Just up it to 42x100, no volt increase and just let it burn.. in.

Unfortunately it seems that it is just some sort of bug. "This is normal behavior with R349 drivers to facilitate changes with Windows 10. Although the Asus SWIFT G-Sync monitor is reporting G-Sync mode while on the desktop, it is only running in G-Sync mode in full screen apps."

I do hope that means that at least Win10 will be able to run G-Sync on any display mode.
