GTA V PC Performance Thread

Is it also inherently 'fighting' if they don't deliberately go out of their way to make sure something they didn't author stays compatible? Because that's what we need, more reasons for them to be less inclined to update the game.

So far, updating the game has resulted in shit getting broken (e.g. worse aliasing, pop-in, etc).

New PC patch (Steam version) seems to have fixed my stuttering issues, thank God!
Yup, pre-update my cpu usage while driving through city would rise up to 100% and then stuttering occurred. Now with the same settings cpu usage was somewhere around 65% and no stuttering.

Specs: 2500K@4.5ghz paired with oc'd GTX 970

Oh god damn it, according to the dev of Script hook it will take a while to update the tool :( Now to find a way how to fake that my game is updated... Steam offline mode doesn't support achievements n stuff last time I checked.

Anyone else suffering lag in the map after the latest patch?

Yes I am experiencing the same problem. My frame rate drops significantly to 6fps, shoots up to 176fps then goes back down to 6fps when I press the start button to view the map. Huge stuttering/lag. Cant even zoom in the map or switch tabs. As soon as I go back in game everything goes back to normal.

Maybe I can use OBS with this game now.

Game crashes on startup after latest patch, great.

Edit: Seems it didn't start when i had radenpro running in the background (thought radeonpro setting were only enabled if you started the game through the program, but apparently not)

Nice, found a way around the new update :)
Simply backup GTAV.exe, GTAVLauncher.exe and update.rpf, let Steam update and copy those files back. I can play in Steam Online Mode and use Script Hook just fine this way. Workaround should probably last until Steam checks for updates again or until you restart it.

same here. felt like my computer was going to explode.

Overlays and other applications that auto-detect direct3D applications are the first things to disable if a game crashes at launch.

What are you guys using to track your FPS?

As long as it doesn't cause any issues, I typically use the RivaTuner overlay that installs with MSI Afterburner. You can incorporate a ton of other relevant data along with the fps.

If you are already using Steam and you don't want to use any other 3rd party applications, you can enable the FPS counter in Steam.

Performance seems fine for me on the new patch, then again I seem to be one of the few where the patches haven't broken anything (4790k/16GB RAM/290x). Running same as before.

Game is performing way worse for me with the new patch. Constant frame dips / stutter, sometimes just spinning the camera around, but mostly while driving. Extremely distracting.

So just popping my head in this thread and wondering about the Optimal settings option in the Geforce Experience game panel. Is anybody using this feature for gta5? I had a what I thought were good graphics settings for my system, but then I saw that Optimal button yesterday in the Nvidia Experience and clicked on it. After clicking on the button all of my settings were increased and when I loaded the game it was about 500mb over my vram recommendation. So my questions are is anybody using the Optimal button in Geforce Experience, and if anybody is exceeding vram recommendations, by how much are you doing so?

Weird, I restarted the game and the stutter was gone. Not sure what the issue is. Hopefully not something random and it will be back when I jump back in.

Overall performance seems better too.

I'm glad to hear some people are having improved performance. Last patch destroyed my performance, so I can't wait to get home and see how it's going to perform for me.

For people reporting better/worse performance, could you include your specs too? Maybe we can try to find some sort of common denominator in all this, or maybe it truly is random (or depends on what programs you have running in the background or something).

Someone logged into my account, leveled my online character up, changed my social club name, and spent all my money...yay. I was able to reset my password but Rockstar support hasn't gotten back with yet. 5 days and counting.

The game was running smoothly since day one but now it's kinda unplayable.

The game should not be able to cause a BSOD on it's own. That is a sign of some other underlying issue.
Still the timing is quite strange, I played 30 hours pre patch and no problem whatsoever except for a crash or two. But now 30 min post patch and I get a BSOD? I'll try to play more to see if it happens again, but if it does I don't think my pc would be at fault.

Seeing the new patch, the hard shadow distance line is here to stay, right? This is a great PC version, but I don't think this looks acceptable.

You should check what caused the issue using BlueScreenView i.e.

The game could expose an issue, like an unstable overclock, that could result in a BSOD or possibly a driver issue that results in BSOD, but an application crash shouldn't result in anything worse than a CTD.

I had someone log into my rockstar social club account while I was in the middle of an online heist. And contrary to rockstars statement about accounts being accessed because of the same password being used elsewhere, I use last pass and the auto generate random password feature, the random 10 string password was only 3 days old and someone managed to access my account. The only way to prevent it from happening honestly is to remain logged into your rockstar account via the web and don't clear your cookies. This will allow you to access your account and hopefully change your password in time to something else if you notice it happens to you.

So a new GTA V patch is out (350.1), and people are reporting supposedly better/smoother performance with fewer dropped frames or stuttering when driving fast. Anyone have a chance to test it out?

I had the impression that the judder at high speeds is reduced, yes. I did not get the chance to test much though.

I'm getting frame rates in the single digits for about the first 5-10 seconds after the online world loads. It goes away but that didn't use to happen before and it's really jarring. Shit.

Getting some weird shadow popping that wasn't there prior to this patch.

Have a video of it but my upload speeds are shit (like 0.50 Mb/s) so it's going to take like an hour to upload a 215MB video file.

EDIT: Video
