Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

So Mists of Pandaria will be launching around then. Good to know.
Well, unless Activision Blizzard wasn't aware of ArenaNet's plans prior to this announcement, it could certainly mean some hard work ahead for them. While I'm not a member of the beta testing (yet), I can see that World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is shaping up nicely. With several fansites (Wowhead, MMO-Champion etc.) receiving beta keys to hand out to people that didn't purchase the Annual Pass to gain access to beta testing, perhaps we are getting close to launch.

As for Guild Wars 2, it would be interesting to try the game but I doubt my computer configuration would enable any spectacular performance. I could play Rift using the low quality renderer with a decent framerate. I have an integrated ATI Radeon 3000 card installed, and another card (AMD Radeon HD 6670) that unfortunately isn't compatible with my motherboard. All other components are fine.

Minimum system requirements regarding video card:

NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
I usually tweak most games to ridiculous settings (I once got World of Warcraft running at above 210 FPS), so I don't think it's impossible to have Guild Wars 2 running with this card. I'll see if I can upgrade though.

Right before school starts.

RIP grades
I feel like that's the prime time to release a MMO.

You don't want your userbase to have an infinite amount of free time to play, or else they can burn out very quickly.

On the consumer end of things though - this means students can potentially ruin their lives if they get addicted.

I was thinking mid-September but I think they might rush it out a couple of weeks early now.

I hope not as I want to play both. 2 MMOs at once is a difficult thing to do :P

Haven't bothered with the GW2 beta as there's very few things better in gaming than exploring an MMO for the first time, for me.

It is better to have a space between MoP and GW2 anyway, as GW2 does not compete with Blizzard for subscription fees. The majority of "finish a game to a certain extent, then move on"-type players can buy Guild Wars 2 and play a LOT of it before MoP comes out (if it comes around the end of September, early october) anyway, and then they can chill in WoW for a few months.

Blizzard always has either a major content patch or an expansion lined up to compete with other big-name MMOs. You can bet this time will be the same even considering that GW2 does not have a subscription model.

Nobody will go back to WoW!

The only thing that can top this news for me now, is a Final Fantasy Versus XIII release date!

We've waited for Guild Wars 2 for far too long.

And to think some of you guys actually made fun of me for believing in a summer release date.

I love how the three day headstart begins just one day after my final exam for this semester. Should make for some very relaxing weeks.

Sounds guuud!
Now to decided between the Euro-gaf server (which usually dies quickly in most mmos :/) or the NA-gaf server :d.

28th then. This means everyone who pre-purchased gets it the 25th? I do hope!

Also - anyone concerned about which server they roll on with the "guest" feature?

Been waiting for this five years now. Goddamn it's finally (almost) here! Now I feel like grinding some more points for HoM..

Well, I just hope that they are not agressive like that this time. They do not need to. And besides, WoW with MoP might not have THAT strength anymore.

I will stick to my region (NA) - I did stress yesterday on an EU server with a friend with a bit of latency but it wasn't unplayable.

I'm wondering what will make it into the last BWE. It's a good amount of time after the second one and it's a month before release. So will we see a near release version? Sylvari and Asura both? Hoping we at least get the other 2 sPvP maps, and one more race.

Awesome to finally have a date, was hoping for the end of July (my SWTOR sub ends) but still not bad.

Anyone have a site with a good breakdown of the classes? I was set on Guardian but now my buddy is making one (I'm anal and hate playing the same class as my friends...).

Thanks to the extended stress test I managed to get a whole 20 minutes of playtime ; ( Started an engineer and it looked pretty interesting

I pre-ordered it the first day I was able to, I still kind of wish it was more like GW1 in terms of questing but I guess as a full MMO it will survive longer for a wider audience.

I hope some stuff gets fixed by launch, but at this time I am hyped.

My thoughts

GW2 Beta: The developers actually listen to response and fix things, I saw fixes withing 24 hours. If they keep the momentum it'll be ready.

WOW MOP Beta: Still problems not being fixed since day one. Things get fixed in 3 weeks at earliest. Balancing is way off, errors are everywhere, I'm still falling through the ground over here... Raids are unfinished, worse then DS so far. There is no way end game content will be done in time. If they keep the current momentum it might be ready by November. Rumor has it that MOP will ship without raids, which will be added weeks later.

If they are released at the same time it'll be in GW2 favor, one is more polished. The other is not ready to ship.

I'm guessing MOP will be October/November
