Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Note that those are base stats at max level and it's very possible to get say, a Thief, up to 18k health with equipment bonuses.

Girls with abs are not a bad thing.

It sure isn't:

Ok, I think I have my choice. Either Warrior or Guardian and for Race, either Norn or Human.
Anyone who played the BWE as either warrior and/ or guardian that wants to comment on the pros for either?
Warrior is a lot of fun. Hammer is pretty awesome, its skills allow you to do a lot of AoE knockdowns and whatnot. All the weapon sets play a lot differently from one another. I'm gonna play a human warrior. Only concern is how effective I'd be in WvW, since melees seem to get wrecked amidst giant mobs, and the warrior's only ranged weapon is the longbow which wasn't all that great.

You missed the crazy rifle. ;P

Why do Guardians have so little health?

Because it's a wall. ^^

I personally am rolling the warrior because I found it much more "offensive" than the guardian. The guardian has a lot of healing abilities and I found I wasn't killing things as fast. This comes from very little experience though.

I'm wondering if I should break my tradition of making a male character in MMOs/RPGs. Playing as a woman always felt a little weird in WoW, but the character models in GW2 look amazing...

Decisions, decisions.

I always preferred playing male melee classes and female casters. I found their animations tended to be better in those types of roles too. At least in WoW.

Cant say I ever cared about that. I always went with the gender I thought looked better since I dont role play my characters or think of them as an extension of myself. I think of them as a separate character.

Charr - Male
Norn - Female
Human - Male/female
Slyvari - female
Asura - female

If I order the box copy via Amazon, will I still get the early access? Can anyone confirm this?

I ask because I want to order using my Amazon Store Card, and the Store Card doesn't work for digital purchases.

Edit: What about GameStop?

Whenever I start the launcher to keep it updated, I always attempt to log in despite a) Knowing there's nothing to log into, and b) missing out on early access from my GreenManGaming copy so I'm double fucked.

Why are you missing out on early access because of GMG? I bought from GMG and I've been able to participate in all of the BWE so far. Did they run out of keys or something?

Instead of upgrading my trusty Logitech G500 I'm upgrading my keyboard instead. Have a Logitech Wave keyboard just now, but it's finally time to get a backlight gaming keyboard.

The G510 a solid choice? Budget peaks at £50 and I can pick one of them up for around that (or less if I make do with a German keyboard layout).

Is the Black Widow within that price range? I'm not sure on the conversion. It would be such a shame to actually set a budget for a keyboard then get some membrane-based blubbery thing.

I got this when preordering the boxed copy:
The Amazon Video Games team thanks you for pre-ordering "Guild Wars 2." Your purchase has entitled you to 3-Day Head-start access as well as access to Beta Weekend events. See "Your promotional code" above.

So you do get the 3 days. I ordered this a couple of months ago, so I dunno if this offer is limited or not. It still shows up on their product page though.

IIRC Gamestop has 3 and 1 day promos with preorders, but most(if not all) of the 3 day ones ran out already.

Push for a mechanical. There are some decent entry levels for £60. It's no Ducky but it's better than a membrane.

It's about £15 more.

I've seen a few people rave about it, but aren't mechanical keyboards noisy as hell? My current logitech is very noisy and I thought about going a bit quieter. I guess performance is what matters most though!

I really am on a budget though, have an expensive trip to London incoming next month for the Eurogamer Expo. I mean I guess I could make do with what I have and wait till after London, but where's the fun in that, need to do my usual gamer splurge around a hyped release!

Every time I scraped up the funds for a GMG purchase they were out of keys and when they got new ones there was this note on the page -

"PURCHASES ON OR AFTER 8TH AUGUST WILL NOT INCLUDE THE 3 DAY EARLY ACCESS OR ACCESS TO BETA WEEKENDS!"

I hadn't actually planned to buy Guild Wars 2 despite my interest because I didn't think for a second it'd run remotely okay on my computer, but I ended up getting a beta weekend key and being blown away by how fucking smooth it ran despite this being a machine that predates Windows 7's release.

I thought that way as well but you can spec them to deal out quite a bit of damage.

I think you can get rubber rings for the keys to quiet them down. Not sure if it effects the key press though. I like the definitive action of my blacks though.

Also see you next month then! ;D

Is the digital deluxe download worth it for the extra $$? I played very little of guild wars 1 and haven't gotten into an MMO (I know, spare me) since RIFT, though I have this horrible habit of buying games and playing once or twice.

In other words, if I do happen to like the game, am I going to be disappointed down the road that I didn't sack up and get the Deluxe version?

They are a bit louder but it's not as much of a difference as you might think. On your side of the pond I imagine you could get your hands on a stock Cherry 'board somewhat easily, and those are about as cheap as mechanical 'boards come. If you really need backlighting though I think all the mechanical options will probably be out of your range.

I'd do some searching at least. Maybe see if you can try one before you spend money so you know what the difference is.

Don't buy the special edition, spend that money on cash shop upgrades instead

If you don't like noise, don't get Cherry MX Blue mechanics such as those used in the Razer Blackwidow.

By the way, here's a comparison:

I played a crazy amount of GW1 so I consider myself a fan, but I'm not getting the deluxe edition just because the items in it really don't look worth the extra $20.

I'd much rather as someone else pointed out way back in the thread, buy 2 extra character slots instead. Or maybe a character slot and a few storage upgrades or something.

You can buy the digital upgrade version for 2000 gems. Which you could buy for gold.

Just ordered the regular version. Much obliged!

Yay! I'll be there on Thursday and Friday with my GF, feel free to meet up for a bit or whatever. I'm going to see Kojima talk at the annual video game bafta lecture on Friday night as well.

Thanks for all the advice on keyboards, I think this upgrade is going to be one I'm going to chalk up to simply entering gaming keyboard territory from what I have. Further down the line I can investigate a mid end mechanical keyboard with what I need. Noise is definitely somewhat of an issue, my GF HATES it when I'm typing away like mad and she's reading or something.

Not that I moan back when it's her turn to game!!!

The Logitech gaming keyboards are in my budget, as is something like this Thermaltake? - http://www.techreaction.net/2011/03/21/review-thermaltake-esports-challenger-pro/

I'm aware they changed alot up such as quests and the instances, which is for the better. What am I hearing about not buying the deluxe v version to spend money in the upgrade store?

thatd be the smart move. Instead of getting a bunch of useless crap, you spend the money you save and buy gems to get extra bank tabs and character slots

I always role a female now im my games. I decided if I was going to be starring at their backside 95% of the time I would rather see a females frame than some dudes...

Uh oh, unless this is a placeholder, looks like that hat everyone was bitching about earlier is actually going to be free. Note the zero gems price, it's also called a "Celebration Hat", which could mean it's a gimmie for the celebration of launch. It won't let me confirm the purchase, if anyone was curious :P

Official Thread goes live TONIGHT!

GAFGuild Mega-Awesome Pre-Launch Super-Countdown Festival of Hype Mumble Meet & Greet Event!
Here's another opportunity for everyone to hop on Mumble and get to know their future guildmates before launch. Even if you don't have a microphone, you can still participate since Mumble has a chat window. If you don't want to speak up, that's fine too; talking is not mandatory and you're welcome to just log in and listen (keep the creepy stalker breathing to a minimum though).

The event will begin on Friday, August 25th at Midnight (9PM on the 24th Pacific, 4am GMT) and run for 3 hours. At this point, the game launches and everyone officially has license to freak out. This event is strictly B.Y.O.K (Bring Your Own Kool-Aid). Please note that ArenaNet has stated they may start the game up to 3 hours early, so you might as well get on mumble and spam the Login button with the rest of us.

I'll be flying solo again, so I'll be no doubt thankful for the company I'm going down Wednesday night till Saturday. You can no doubt watch me make a fool of myself again. I'll see if I can out do myself from last year: Asking Chet Faliszek from Valve how the development of Dota 2 is going while playing CS:GO. :V

He wasn't impressed :(

I currently have the TT ESports MEKA G1. While it might not speak to the entire series of keyboards the current one I own is rock sold, really well built and the function keys are handy.
