Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

How do I beat Shiro Tagachi's impossible odds again? I don't know how I done it before, but somehow I'm not able to beat him anymore in Imperial Sanctum.

Why ty good sir, wish it were mine. Getting a Gerbil instead ...which remind me of the Asura, maybe I should name my gerbil Bookah.
I see you have a bit of a stubble, grow it man :D
Don't name it Bookah, it'll be a self-loathing gerbil!

And my beard never gets all that impressive, just a little grizzle. I do like to rock it a bit, but it's not so "professional" in my office or so they tell me.

Im in vabbi. I picked the master of whispers and the bonus for the mission where you need to make sure no gates fall is a pain. To unlock skills for heroes do I just change my secondary profession and use the signet of capture? The hero skils seem pretty weak.

Yeah, the Dzagonur bonus is annoying. You could leave it and come back when you've unlocked better skills for your heroes. Any skill unlocked on the account becomes available for your heroes. So unlocking them from regular PvE, hero skill trainers and Priests of Balthazar (PvP). The build posted by Jira contains a bunch of skills that become fairly essential (well, not essential, they're just really good) later on.

For going through NM I've found that running 2 or 3 of these works a treat: http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:E/any_Searing_Flames_Elementalist

You need two things to beat him
1. A stance removal skill so you can slap him out of Battle Scars, that lifesteal is nasty
2. Spoil Victor or Pain Inverter (or both) so you can make him kill himself while using Impossible Odds

If you are going to use Blind, be aware that he transfers conditions from him when he hits during Impossible Odds, so you need something you can spam (like the Ritualist spirit Shadowsong). You being blinded doesn't really matter in that point anymore if you have Spoil Victor on him.

Went from 18 to 22 points on my HoM in 2-3 days, closing in on 30 now.

All I need are:
my unique mini
8 white minis
get my phoenix to 20
tame a black widow
then buy the 7 cheapest hero armor items I can find
make some norn armor
make some kurzick armor
make some vabbian armor
make a destoryer weapon
make a tormented weapon

and I'll be at 30.

Bahahahaha. Hilarious.

Although Hawkian is right! Poor gerbil will hate itself forever!

As for HoM, tons of respect for those that got 30/50, let alone 50/50. Seems like either of those would have taken an astounding amount of time playing. Will be awesome being able to transmogrify items with the HoM models.

If any of those Heroes are from EOTN, I have a bunch of spare Cloths of the Brotherhood your welcome to. And a White Harpy Ranger.

I've got a bunch of sweets, alcoholic drinks, and some flasks of firewater from the Dragon Festival...no charge as I don't really need it.

If anyone needs them, PM me instead and I'll set up a time to be online to give them to you.

Add Blademarshal Makoto to the friend list in GW. Hopefully that will bump a few points for some folks.

Oh man, could I get a cloth of brotherhood? I just hit 7/30 last night after my pet hit 20. Very exciting.

Is acquiring the Black Moa Chick something you can do solo (with hench/heroes) or do you need a group for the last part of it?
It seems relatively simple (with hench)...though I am going off of reading the wiki about the quest in Ferndale. Nevermind, I'm dumb and didn't read correctly.

Sure, got plenty to go around, I'm in game right now if you have time?

I can't remember to well, but I'm pretty sure it's fairly easy with heroes.. the hardest part is just the last task when you venture into Sorrows Furnace, but these days Heroes should be able to handle this place easy enough.

The farther away from BWEs these threads turn into GW1 chat. Lemme stir things up.

I don't like where melee currently is. Save the "L2P" comments... but your forced into ranged combat in most situations. WvW? 90% of the time you're in keep battles or large mob fights, where you have to be in ranged or get yourself killed. Goodluck trying any elite mobs in PvE in melee range. Not only is it more difficult to dodge at close range, but a side-effect of losing the Trinity system, is the threat mechanics are non existent. The mob will just beat on the nearest player, which is you.

Yes everybody has access to ranged weapons, but you're pretty much forced into reserving one of your weapon slots with a ranged one. Pretty much destroying customization.

I don't think tuning the damage in melee is a final solution.

All that said I'm really looking forward to release, probably the funnest MMO beta I've been a part of. I still have some reservations about how WvW and PvE (dungeon) content will turn out.

When was the last BWE again? I need to figure out what I'm gonna main for release. So far I've crossed off Mesmers, Rangers(bc of broken pets), and Engineers. I've probably enjoyed Warriors the most except for being forced into ranged weapons.

Like I told my friends, melees in GW2 are great fun when going against solo/duo mobs in PvE and small PvP (or sPvP), but in a PvP zergfest or huge raid event you can't see shit and pretty much die randomly.

While range classes are great in all situations.

Waiting on BWE3 before making my final class decision though.
Melees might get some upgrades.

I can't recall where (Reddit AMA?), but I swore they said that they were working on melee v. ranged? Maybe I'm just imagining it.

But yeah, in PvE, my 2h sword ranger was amazing. Pull and damage w bow/shortbow, break out Longsword....all while pet is doing crazy shit, DPS was crazy. I haven't tried a Warrior, so I can't compare. :(

Are you doing that Glint's AFK farm?

Another for GAF Asura Team!!!

Wow at that video, Retro. lol. Makes me so glad I haven't eaten a Hot Pocket in over a decade.

Ever since they were first mentioned, I was set on playing an Asura as my main. I'll be taunting the walking sticks, Sylvari as they call themselves, from the very first moment I enter the realm as well. After all, the only good Sylvari is a Sylvari chopped up for firewood.

Whoa, Retro's gone all Real too! Awesome.

You're a machine. I have to get to 13 by release. I MUST!

I could help some people out in GW1. I'm in Japan though so I'm on at weird times. Xiaoyu Yan is my in game name. I can help with anything at all really as I can make any hero team build you would need. If you want some help you can PM here and I'll hop on. I've got my 30/50 and I have no desire to grind out anymore than that.

How many do you have? If others need them, I'm not in a hurry. But if you have hundreds... =3

haha not that many, currently 37, two people mentioned they need armor, not sure if Jira needs Cloths yet though, but assuming they both need the full set (10 heroes) still got 17 so if you need any it's no problem :)

Yeah, being melee has its downside for sure. This was my problem and it seems every MMO I've tried recently with some sort of large objective base PVP it comes down to being ranged = win (Aion, WAR, WoW are the ones that I've tried) so I think to save myself troubles in the future I'm just going with a ranged character this round. I really like melee but I just don't see anyway they can change this in general.

I think I will find myself doing the large scale PVP more than any of the sPVP (where melee is usually the most useful) so a ranged character is probably the best bet.

It does suck though, my playstyle is completely melee over the years of playing MMO's

Just folded to an assault of peer-pressure and preordered (
But £50? WTF?
).

Anyway GAF, I need some help choosing a profession. I played an Engineer in the very first closed beta (the NDA'd one) and really didn't like it. The difficulty curve felt inconsistent and most of the skills were lacklustre, but from what I've read online, the Engineer was/is very unpolished.

So what's a good range starting profession? I need something newbie friendly (never played GW) and preferably with a lot of support skills. I know there isn't a traditional 'holy trinity', but I'd prefer a prof as close to a healer as possible as it's what I'm used to in other MMO's.

I'm going to try my best to finish the Factions campaign at least before release to get some extra points in my HoM. If I can at least clear that out and get a few pets from that, I'll be happy.

What's the simplest/easiest armor to buy for your heroes? I've been searching through wikis online but can't parse out which might be the least time consuming. Anyone have tips from experience?

Maybe something significant will help them in WvW in BWE3!

Although I won't know, as I will be on vacation. August needs to get here asap!

Most likely nothing will help. In large scale pvp games, melee will always feel useless. Most things they can do to make them better would just make melee classes unbalanced in smaller pvp battles then.

Range combat has always had the advantage when your dealing with numbers, even in history it always took vast amount of troops moving in unison, often dying in droves to approach into melee combat.

Give Ranger a whirl. I also wanted to play Engi, but found it to be rather ... bleh. Hopefully they fix that. Although, not much "healer" type play in a Ranger. Elementalist with water attunement?

Sunspear or Brotherhood if you're willing to buy; they should cost around the same. Doing the missions for them can take a long time, especially if you're going for Primeval (elite area after the end of Nightfall) or Deldrimor (at the very end of the hardest dungeon in EotN).

Yeah, I just don't think there is a way around it sans a huge HP boost which is just unfair in general. I don't want to be a "supply runner" every time I play WvW and being a melee character and having my weapon switch slot with a ranged weapon doesn't seem effective.

Ranged it is. Now, it's down to what would be an interesting and fun ranged class to play. I don't like pets much which I think is Necro and Ranger? So that leaves Elementalist, Mesmer, and the Engineer ...

I just can't really comment because I didn't play the game enough and know very little about the mechanics so far.

It's like the Men in Black man. It's the last money you'll ever have to pre-order™.

Honestly, WvW seemed mostly zerg v. zerg. Pets pretty much died instantly and were a PITA to keep attempting to rez them. I still found myself doing pretty well in WvW (Ranger). Biggest drawback for me was the lack of AoE. Keep take/defense seems like an AoE-fest. If you are even attempting to use oil, you're pretty much dead quick due to 10000000 Elementalists spamming AoE's.

Unfortunately, it seems like the only solution for melee types was siege. Sucks you have to pay for blueprints to be able to have fun as a melee in WvW.

I think Elementalist with Staff is pretty newb friendly. It's a great support class too, it has some heals but nothing so powerful that would grant it the status of a team healer.

eh, I find if you stick to more guerrilla type missions in WvW (you and a group of buddies fucking up a supply camp, for instance) you will have much more fun than in huge world-shattering AOE fests. It's going to be 1 million elementalists banging on a door with AOEs.

Quoted for Truth. When we were getting stomped in WvW, I asked /team for volunteers to form a raiding party just to harass supply camps. No objective other than to sweep in, take the camp, and rush to another one.

Not only did we have a LOT more fun and generate a lot more Karma / XP / Gold, but while we were doing it we also scouted locations for a larger group that was roaming about doing the same thing to towers. I can't say we were totally responsible, but while doing this the towers we had fought for didn't come down the entire time. I think the hit-and-run tactics, being an invisible force of aggression, may have pulled attackers from the front, thinking that there was a huge zerg moving around when, in fact, it was never more than 5 guys.

We also helped to throw up a LOT of siege equipment, because we were constantly capturing supply points, we always had some to spend, and it didn't affect anything because 6 minutes later we'd be across the map raiding another camp for more.

I think a quick, organized team, capable of seemingly-random strikes from anywhere (we used the lake for cover so much we were probably impossible to track) can really throw off an aggressive team. A couple working in tandem, dumping supply off where a larger group is setting up siege, could be lethal.

And we were all melee too, if I recall.

Oh, I know. I was just referring to the point where he said he didn't want to be a supply runner.

You can't expect to be Billy Badass and evade all that AOE though. I've evaded through dodge AWAY from AOE, and you're more suited in sniping targets that are doing ranged and not noticing you anyway. That's still a hell of a lot of fun. They turn around and are like OH SHIT MELEE fuuuuu

The number one thing I want improved in GW2 is more information on ability and trait descriptions. How much more range do I get from this trait? How much adrenaline do I gain from this skill? How much might does this give me? I need numbers, dammit! I can't make an informed decision without numbers. And the wiki doesn't even have this information.

Could someone link the gaf Guild information stuff again?

....Finally got validated today! I've been reading Neogaf for years and kept track of all the Guild Wars 2 topics since they started. It was great playing along side of a lot of you during the BWEs and Stress Tests
