Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

I think the low HP pool makes sense. I bet if it had a high HP pool, a lot of people would be guardian=tank, i need a guardian!!

In BWE2 it was possible to make a build where you could have 3-4 people on you and you just brush it off while holding a point. If they had the Warrior's HP a guardian might be unkillable.

Someone made a very easy to read combo chart:

Awesome, thanks a lot! Just saved them.

This reminds me something I found out and commented with Hawkian while I wasn't approved yet for GAF; let me paste it:

It seems like the Elementalists' earth-attuned staff would be an amazing tool for setting up cross-profession combos with itself. It has two of the best, if not the two best, finisher abilities in the Elementalist's repertoire; if that wasn't enough, they're the 1 and 2 abilities, meaning extremely low cooldown for both. What's more, the 1 ability, Stoning, is a projectile ability which (unless the wiki and all build calculators are simply missing this fact), seemingly has 100% chance of triggering combos, something extremely useful and not entirely common in itself for an autoattack ability. The 2 ability, Eruption, is a Blast ability with a cooldown of 6 seconds, again one of the shortest in the Elementalist's repertoire.

While Elementalists have no Field abilities on the staff when attuned to Earth, they have plenty to choose from in other elements of that weapon: Fire, Water, Ice and Lightning. To top it all off, Projectile combos are mostly offensive, but most Blast combos (including all four of those elements) are support-oriented, adding to their already phenomenal versatility. :)

Awesome stuff, as always. Thanks a lot for the partial transcript as well!

The Legendary weapons sound ABSOLUTELY INSANE. A Hammer made of liquid metal that spreads into your body and turns you into a T-1000!? Holy crap! And I'm not entirely sure I got how the day/night sky swords are supposed to look, but my money is on "out of this world". As a compulsory collector of all things extravagant and unique (my favorite weapon in WoW being an axe that turns you into a undead rocker, but is otherwise useless at my level), I can tell this is going to be my game of the goddamn forever.

Orr sounds like the kind of epic experience you remember fondly ten years after the fact. I have no clue how all those inherently repeatable events will work in terms of advancing a story, but I have faith in ArenaNet and I'm sure we'll be blown away.

Also, I'm glad that people liked the WvW dungeon videos I posted. It really looks like a lot of fun. :)

Hardly. At least not any more than Warriors are right now. Although, I am sure Guardians can make for the best flag/domination point defender in sPvP, but that requires a very focused build that simply won't allow for a lot of teamfight utility.

The problem is that most defensive Warrior abilities are meant to keep yourself alive, while the majority of defensive Guardian skills are utility skills for your group. In most PvP situations the Warrior can easily save his "oh shit" buttons and still use the majority of his skillset/play his role effectively. In my experience, you can't really do that in group PvP as a Guardian.

Also, I am aware of the low HP pool being a means to balance his high amount of defensive skills. I just think that having close to half the base HP of the only other heavy armor class is just too much of a downside.

I've discussed this with the two guildmates I played with in both BWEs and we all agreed on Guardian probably being somewhat underpowered right now.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens in BWE3 and then launch.

I dunno, Guardians can fully heal 5 people at once. Seems like a game changer in PVP. Tome of Courage appears (to me) to be the best elite in the game. Warriors have the worst elites, atm.

I am in the same boat with the necro, but really want to give it more of a chance next time around.

I've never been much of a tank type player so haven't been interested in Warrior or Guardian (yes, I know there aren't "tanks" in the game).

I have traditionally always played a ranged class in MMOs. Just always been my strength with the exception of a Shadowzerker in DAOC. However, I friggin' loved the Warrior and Guardian in this. Issues aside, they're fun to play.

....

I still have no idea what profession I'm going to 'main,' if I even do. Always enjoyed building multiple characters rather than feeling in any way obligated to play one in particular.

Do the dungeons in WvW act as short cuts to keeps/areas to capture or what?

I don't believe so. There are some hidden entries into some of the keeps and such, but as far as I know none are sourced from a dungeon.

The LA nerf killed that spec QQ.

God I wish there were a minstrel/bard type class. I don't think I'll ever find a class as fun as my Minstrel in DAoC. So much damn utility.

Are the client files transferable from one PC/drive to another? I might try to download this on my other network and transfer it to my PC afterwards if possible.

Well, that video interview was awesome. Legendary weapons sound absolutely amazing. A unicorn bow that shoots out rainbows! awesome

I really want to know what the pistol and rifle legendary weapons are. Im also a bit curious if there is a legendary shield, warhorn, torch, etc. I can see the shield and possibly warhorn, but a 'legendary torch' just sounds odd.

Id also love it if engineers could customize the looks on their kits. Having some bad ass custom legendary whatever flamethrower strapped to my back would be sweet. I think it would also make up for engineers only being able to use 3 weapons. Simply have the flamethrower/elixir gun, and whatever else makes sense cosmetically customizable

Im also curious if sharing skill points between characters would be feasible. Perhaps they would have to put restrictions on it like only level 80s can share, but I think it would be a nifty feature for the alt addicted player who also wants to get a legendary weapon sometime in his lifetime

Yes, but it's one big chunk of a ~20 gigabye file. A lot of FAT32 drives don't like when files are bigger than 4 gigabytes. You might need to format your thumbdrive to NTFS if possible.

Yep, just move the gw2.exe and .dat. Simple as that.

There will be legendary skins for all weapons/shields no doubt. I want to know what the legendary armors will look like. As for the skill trading I'd have to guess no, but who knows.

Yup. Two of my wishes for an expansion to GW2: Kodan as a playable race simply because they're so badass looking and a type of Bard profession. I'm not getting my hopes up for the latter, but I think the former has a semi-decent shot of happening.

After a 5 second channeled cast time where you can't move. Not really a game changer.

I foresee the Tengu becoming playable in the next expansion and in the second expansion, maybe Pala Jokos undead?

Anyone playing GW1 tonight?

Agreed on the Tengu, but I doubt Palawa's Army will be a playable race. I'd bet on centaurs fighting for freedom.

I'm up for GW1 tonight. Old account with a full hom and all that, so basically just helping out.

As far as it being really event heavy and relying on players is anyone else concerned that if we don't get there soonish we will miss out on the beginnings of these event chains? Like storming the beaches and whatnot, if the players are holding the points fairly well(even if the line of battle shifts back and forth) I know the possibility is there for the bad guys to beat us off the island but it seems unlikely especially on a higher pop server. We might lose the entrance to the dungeon but not get forced all the way off the island.

Maybe A-Net will throw a huge or just powerful elite something at the players that, without a large number or just coordination, will force us off the island to make us have to storm it again.

It's going to be hit or miss, really. Not everyone's going to be playing Orr, particularly if it's as difficult as they make it sound. It sounds like something you'll have to at least organize to some extent, or you will not proceed to the end, making extensive time spent there sort of wasted...

... outside of all the fun, that is.

So I skipped the first 2 BWEs, probably gonna play this one to get myself ready for the game. TBH I've been staying away from these threads and info for a while so the wait wouldn't be as long and painful :p. Henge of Denravi it is

For the BWE.

Then Gate of Madness for launch. Don't forget.

I think that is why they made 3 passages into Orr since there might be an okchance that at least one of them is in its beginning phase when you enter the zone

But yea, I can definitely see the temples being constantly contained, but so long extremely important events are very short events and mostly is about conquering and defending, I dont think the player will miss out on too much content if he is a slow leveler

Im sure there will be other dynamic content in the zone that doesnt require to be constantly won to unlock important stuff, and i imagine that will definitely be playable to new players to the zone

They can always change up the dynamic events or add new paths to the zone if it becomes problematic. Id imagine that they are curious about it as well, and have done the best they could to make sure that new players to the zone experience most of the content, but stuff like that simply cant be gauged properly until a whole crap load of people are in the zone and play for a long while. I doubt they really have relevant data right now, and will only get that once a decent amount of people reach 80.

if there is a problem, i bet it will be fixed or tweaked soonish

Things will move back and forth, it's not as if because you didn't see it right when the game comes out that it's never possible to see it again. If it really is hard then stuff will likely be in a defeated state more often than not and truly require coordination to push into the zone on all three fronts.

Is there a chance I'll like this game if I couldn't get into WoW?

The art looks stunning.

They're nothing alike other than the fact that it's in the same genre. Read my thread:

You can pre-order it from amazon, play the beta weekend coming up to find out if you like it or not. if you dont, simply cancel and you havent paid a thing

Putting it behind a pay wall is a stupid decision still. Many people don't want to prop down $60 even if they can cancel afterward. You'd think Arena Net would want as many people to try the game as humanly possible, with launch so close and this being such a nice window to light a match under the genre

well, they are giving free beta keys away, though id imagine that those get swapped out quickly. But yea, i agree. I think it would be a good idea for them to open this last beta up to the public. But hey, its still essentaill free so long as you remember to cancel your pre-order if you dont like it

They've given out a ridiculous number of beta keys. Most people that want to give it a go could have gotten one.

They've been handing out keys like crazy the past day or two. Honestly, if you really wanted to play it and paid attention to places like the GW2 subreddit, you could get a key.

Demos seem to be a thing of the past with MMOs lately before launch unless you proactively sign up for them and hope or key beg.

I was going to skip this BWE but the hype is slowly starting to rise. I barely touched WvW in BWE1 and didn't go near it in BWE2 (just played a Norn Warrior and it sold me on using it at launch), so I think this time I might go exclusively WvW.

Last thing I need is to jump in to WvW in the launch month and have my pants around my ankles.

Yeah, it's been pretty aggressive. Could they be doing even more? Sure. But who's to say they won't? In a brief amount of time, they've given out tens of thousands of them. We could easily see more.

"Trading in GW1 is boring and stupid."

Probably the #1 reason why I never amassed any significant amount of money until a friend recently donated me his stash of plat and ecto because he's not going to play anymore.
