Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

"d/d elementalist pvp vid (their burst damage is rather insane)"

His burst has nothing to do with being d/d and everything to do with him bring two burst utility skills. Arcane...burst? And Arcane Blast? They do guaranteed crit damage so if you stack a ton of power and crit damage, you get really fast big crits. It also means that he only has one defensive ability and that burst doesn't exist while they're on cooldown. Pretty standard glass cannon shit.

but in the second video, his Fire Grab hit for 10k (he was stacking up migh somehow)

and in this video , at 3:38, the player gets 2-shot by Burning Speed (4500) and Fire Grab (7800) [+Arcane Shot (2500) + Arcane Blast (2500)]

Quite a bit of damage within a few hits. I could never pull that off on my Guard that was stacked with high power/crit.

Possibly done by specific finishers done in his AOE flame thing granting AOE might.

Thing is I could easily have 10-20 stacks of might within a minute or less in battle and still I didn't come close to that.

I was actually quoting the wrong person there, meant to quote him. At any rate, Guardian skills just don't have the base damage on their skills to reach anything approaching those numbers. It's not a matter of boons in that regard.

3) If anyone trying get 30/30 in HoM wants some charity just PM today. I have money to hand out, a gold mini, two purples and a white, as well as 45 regular mesmer tomes (I love mesmer'ing). Though after today (7/29/12), assuming I don't play War in Kryta, I have no intention of ever logging into GW1 again.

Thanks a TON for the help! Got me 2 more Hero armors and a HUGE help in getting Asura and Ancient Armors, raising my HoM up 1 more point. 6 more points to go! Now...just how to get them. Hrm......

Thanks again IPSU!!!

This guy titles his series Tours and Tactics, which is basically what it is about. He discusses the defenses, layout of each individual keep, depot, castle, etc on the map and talks about WvW tactics

Besides a really lame Sun Tzu quote in the beginning of all of his videos, I found them to be really informative. I, honestly, was rather overwhelmed heading into WvW for the first time in BWE3. I had a general idea what to do, but an idea of capturing points on a map is just so basic that, at least for me, I really didnt know what i should be defending, attacking, or how best to defend/attack, etc. didnt help that I was on Henge either

Im only on the third episode of the series so far, but I quite like his approach of limiting 1 point on the map per episode. Kinda funny that I saw the gate zerg while I was on Henge as well, and all the time i was thinking, man, there has to be a better way than this.

If anyone has any WvW explanation videos that are better, id love to see them. This is the best series ive found so far

Completely agree. Determination and aggressive play should earn you the best (looking) rewards.

Along with insanely high levels of rarity.

Gotta put work in, that's proper and I like it.

I hope that the masses don't rage over it to the point where ANet actually does something to please the masses over the minority. =(

No point in it. The weapons have the same stats so everyone whining about not putting in enough work can keep crying.

I agree, and even if Anet did, these are really just skins. No one's penalized for not having it. I can't complain about that!

Well, great. I just read a few pages of this thread and got myself hyped again, which is shitty considering I probably won't be able to get it at launch.

A few pages back there was a discussion about getting into your character's mindset, even if not RPing. I totally know that feeling. I'm a theatre kid. I love creating and exploring characters. Combine that with my video game nerd side, and I'm a happy guy. The whole personality/choice system of this game really intrigues me.

^ I think the idea is that players buy legendaries with real money

Won't be possible, any items used to make them are bound to your character and so will the actual Legendary. Only thing you could really pay for are the crafting materials like ore and silk, etc.

So they arent bound to your account? Meaning that character needs to have those 2 crafting professions leveled to get that legendary?

I know you can have more than 2 crafts on one character, but that might change my plan of cooking/leatherworking depending on what my legendary takes...

We don't really know if they're character or account bound at this point.

Ooooh nice, should I sign up with my poorly chosen GAF name or should we sign up with the GW2 handle?

Whatever name you want, but maybe include both in your signature. Remember that your GAF name is probably easier to recognize you by for now.

I would like to add that this isn't meant as a replacement for GAF; we thought it would be more effective to organize guild events, answer questions (since the thread moves pretty fast and will continue to accelerate as we creep up on launch in 26 days) and disseminate announcements and info. Our option for that last one right now is to just spam the thread with it, which sucks. Like the recent Meet and Greet on mumble, it's also a way for people to connect without this thread going severely off-topic.

We also have had a lot of GAFers ask if their friends and family are welcome in the GAF guild, which we all agreed would be perfectly fine. However, since GAF registration and approval takes so long, it's likely those non-GAFers who wanted to be a part of the community would feel like second class members. This way, non-approved GAFers can still interact with the guild.

I've been trying to think up a name for my mini side guild.

So far I have:

The Short Story [read] (My old WoW alt guild)
Meat and Cheese [noms]
Spread Out Like Octomom [solo]
Animal Ghost Hunters [agh]

I keep leaning towards one and then switching to another. I've pondered a literary based name. =|

That one is nuts. I tried it for an hour and could not get it.

I had to head to bed just as we all got to the gate for it. I don't imagine I would have finished it before the end of Beta.

The Sylvari one was the most visually impressive, the Town of Nolan one was short but the best hidden (and what a great reward)... I have a feeling we're going to be discussing what our favorite jumping puzzle was for a while.

Just read a post on reddit about crafting Legendaries,

Some of them requires crazy stuff like this:
http://www.gw2db.com/data/recipes/9449-gift-s-of-color

250xUnidentified Dyes (+more stuff) to craft this single component for a legendary staff.

Insane.

I LOVE this. Can I just say that. The rarer and more elaborate the better. Makes you work for it and make sure you have a sense of accomplishment when you get it, and don't just see it everywhere. I hope there's more like that :P

Sorry if this has been asked already but :

1) About exploration, they seem to put an emphasis on it but, for those who were in the beta, could you confirm if it plays a big role? Can you go "casual-wandering" (solo or with team mates) to discover things without quest assignements and still have background info/scenario unfolding?

2) About configuration and performance...I know this had been raised, but it seems the optimization was off at the start of this thread. As there been any improvement? Any hope to run it decently (>30fps) in medium/high on an ageing mid-range gaming laptop (I7 920QM + 4Gb ram + Geforce 445m)...or worse case, on an even more ageing gaming desktop that is normally hooked to TV, and therefore mostly for gamepad game-style (E8400 + 4 Gb + GTX 460 that complemented it 2 years ago to beef it up)?

I disagree. The idea of games as work is terrible in my opinion.

A big, definitive YES.
I played in all 3 BWEs and have never done anything BUT explore.
There are so many little things to find (and I'm not just talking items or quests, but just scenery, dialogue, lore, etc...) it's crazy what they put in the game.
Jumping puzzles, hidden events, skill challenges, vistas, hidden chests and passages, funny dialogue or "in game cutscenes" happening.
Going around and looking at everything is THE way to go in this game!

The legendaries are not better items, they just have unique looks.
If I have the legendary and you don't, we still have the same stats. There is no reason for you to "work" in the game if you do not want this specific look.
But if I want it, I will put in the effort to get it.
It's SUPPOSED to make you stand out and supposed to be a reward for putting in more effort/work than others. It will NOT give you an edge over others though.

Really? I think they were soulbound during BWE3, which sucked.

Pretty sure they made them tradeable after people bitched about it, right?
Or did they just make them account based instead of character based?

edit: just googled it, you can definitely trade dyes on the AH!

Yep, they did. Also they increased the drop rates for the dyes (I got like 10 playing casually one beta weekend), removed the 24h wait in identifying them. Good stuff.

Good, thanks for the info. Might look into it.

I've dropped all MMO since my daughter was born, but I'd enjoy getting back to a world which I can wander freely and still make some contacts with other players for random co-op or competitive play-time...while not having to play 20 hours a week to avoid being dropped by the game's evolution (and without paying a monthly fee or having to grind the boredom out of a F2P game either).

Honestly, I think this is the best bet for you then.
If you make friends, you can all play together even if you are lvl 5 and they are lvl 80, cause they just get downscaled and still earn money/xp for skillpoints/gold/items from running around with you. It's really pretty well made and allows friends to always play together.

From watching the latest woodenpotatoes video, I realised something.

I'm stuck in the check list mentality where I aim to get 100% map completion. I kind of want to break out of this and focus more on dynamic/world events because I found myself having more fun doing those but I felt like I had to run around the map just to search for these events. Am I playing gw2 wrong or does the game actually promote the whole "explore the world to find more events" thing? Or is there a feature where you can see where events are happening?

I'm going to do the following:

1) I will not leave a zone unless I have 100% it.
2) Rule 1 does NOT apply when playing with friends, I will go wherever we want to go.

This should work out best for me.
