Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

High level play in any mmo has never really used those gimmicky side mouse buttons. You'd be surprised how capable 5 fingers are vs. one thumb, they aren't really a benefit.

Awesome 404 error for this thread!!!!

What about 5 fingers AND one thumb? It's not like you can't use both the keys on your left and all of the buttons on your mouse. I think that's the whole point.

I actually use a nostromo and have the regular keys for my fingers as I would with a normal keyboard, but I also use my thumb on the dpad which means my thumb alone is 4 buttons to itself. Then you add all the mouse buttons. It sounds like a lot, but it's just muscle memory.

I would feel crippled without them at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I understand what you're saying. It's not like that kind of hardware is necessary, but I have a hard time saying you're better not having it. Saying it's not a benefit is a bit of a stretch. Provided you can actually use the tools I guess.

I had to switch from my beloved Belkin Nostromo when they dropped Win7 support and I tried the Razer Nostromo. 1st palm down popped a wheelie. A little bit of pressure on the D-Pad caused massive sqeaking and bending of the shell. Software didn't work so well and randomly would delay my keystrokes. I'd rifle off 13245 real quick and the output was 1... ... ... 2... ... ... 3... ... ... etc. Common problem with the software according to my searches.

Some people it works great - it just hated me for some reason.

Switched up to the Logitech G13 and never looked back. No issues, LCD display, 22 keys, digital/analog for the thumb. It's great.

I keep movement to my thumb which frees up 4 fingers for activating abilities, dodging, weapon swap, autorun, etc - abilities 1-5. My G500 handles 6-10 and F2-f4.

My hands never touch the typing keyboard unless I need to type a message or bring up some non-combat menu. With a G13/Nostromo you can effectively control 360 degrees of movement and activate abilities without finger yoga.

I love me some gaming keypads and decent gaming mice.

Well I just pulled the trigger on the G600. Unfortunately I'll be away from my PC for a couple of weeks, so I won't be able to play with it until then. But if anyone likes, I can do a little review on it when I get back.

I probably won't use all of they keys on it, but I mainly got it because I couldn't find a comfortable setup in any of the previous betas. For certain classes (Elementalist especially) there were just too many keys for me to juggle with just a keyboard and mouse alone. Add in movement, dodging, F keys, and weapon switching and it was all just a little too much for me to comfortably manage. This will be my first experience with a MMO mouse, so it may take me a little while to get used to the layout, but once I do hopefully it will give me a much more enjoyable experience.

That is amazing. Well done. Can see that image getting a lot of mileage.

EDIT: The Quaggan song... Hmm... Not sure how long I could last. Was laughing for the first minute or so, and then decided I had other things to do.

So for the folks coordinating what the GAF server will be, any idea when you're gonna decide on it? I'd like to be on the GAF server but need to coordinate with my friends so the earlier I know the more time I have to convince them to join me rather than the other way around! Especially when dealing with multiple sets of friends and friends' friends.

This will sound really jerkish, but that's because I have no other way of putting it, so I apologize ahead of time. Do you really need to know what server we're playing on to convince your friends?

Yeah. So I can establish where we should play before they do based on another community or group of friends.

Maybe the dude just wants to play with GAF and his RL friends.

I think his point is why would the server matter in that case. And nope, we havent decided yet. Pretty sure we are waiting on to see if more servers are announced and to see where all of the big guilds/alliances/communities go to

Yeah. So I can establish where we should play before they do based on another community or group of friends.

Well, servers only really matter for WvW since you can always guest with all of your friends on a server and PvE or sPvP together even if you all choose different servers

Well the reason I say this is because why can't you just tell your friends that there is a GAF community. I think the server we choose is irrelevent isn't it? I mean if your friends happen to decide that they're going to Server A and we happen to choose Server B you're going to have to choose. If this situation happens - and it might - then you have to either convince your friends to join our server even if we haven't decided or just choose to play with your friends. I think us choosing a server is sort of irrelevant.

At this point we have a few options as to what server specifically, but we also need to wait for ANet to give us a list of the launch servers. Doesn't make sense to choose a server when it may not actually be there at launch.

Wait... is this real? Do canadians really say eh a lot?

As someone who moved to Canada 3 years ago, yes, I notice it quite a lot. People here don't usually notice it because they're so used to it, but being not used to it... Yes. You really do notice it. :P

I really cant imagine them cutting any more servers. Id put money on them adding servers if anything. Mostly because it will be hard to increase server cap pop with WvW. You really cant have a huge server cap pop and like a 500 WvW crap. The queues would be awful

Hopefully they add like at least 4 and the major alliances just take over those servers

I'm guessing somewhere in the range of 2 to 4 servers will be added to the NA list. They really need to do what they can to help in avoiding queues while maintaining a healthy population per world.

I don't think they'll cut any either and in fact will likely add some, but renaming servers isn't outside of the realm of possibility.

I like rushing into battle with a Greatsword but I also want a non-magical ranged weapon, which is why I decided to switch from a Guardian (in BWE3) to a Warrior (at release). Now I just realized Rangers also have Greatswords and Longbows (which I think look even cooler than rifles) so I'm not sure which class to pick anymore (my main character would be a Female Norn).

tl;dr: Warrior or Ranger?

The thing with Warriors and Longbows is that they have hardly any traits that are specific for bows (only like 3 if I remember correctly that go in that path, like longer burn effect)... so... I`d say, if you really care about having high damage Ranger is better suited for Longbows, if you don`t really care and just wanna see different skills, I had a ton of fun playing as a Warrior with a Longbow in the BWE2 :P Pets were an annoying pet peeve I didn`t want to bother with and without pets Rangers pretty much... eeeeeh aren`t that great, so...

Want to get best damage? Ranger
Don't want to bother with Pets? Warrior
Don't really care and just wanna have fun? Try 'em both ;)

I would say Ranger, for the only reason that you can have a Pig as a pet... but considering your avatar i´m not too sure you would be a fan of pigs.

Hokai. And I want my bonuses when I play with most of the groups :(

Because the earlier I say "Let's go on [insert server name], the earlier they can tell their friends which one they'll be on. In this case, if their other friends say "I am going to be on Server B" then I'll be on the receiving end of what server to go on!

Basically, networks of friends are complicated due to everyone having multiple social circles. GAF when you break it down is just another one of those social circles (but a lot larger and with looser bonds for the most part).

Thanks! Warrior it is, then.

Two questions:
One: Will there be a good non-halfdead EU guild for Guild Wars 2 with reasonable requirements? (I do not plan on raiding 3 times a week, for example, but I would like to do dungeons or whatever they are called on a semi-regular basis)
Two: Will my computer be able to run this game on around low-mid settings, with 1440*900? (Phenom II 550, 2gb ddr3 (yeah, will need to upgrade to 4gb+, I guess), HD4850 with 1gb vram, and Win7 64).

Thanks! :D

(also, question 3: Guardians. Are they cool?)

One: I think you will be hard- pressed to find any scheduled raid groups in this game, at least for a while. It's not really built in a traditional sense, so it seems like that would be less valid a play style than it was before.

Two: Can't guarantee anything, but it seems to run fairly well on lower end hardware.

Three: Depending on how you build them, Guardians can be very fun. Plus, it depends on whether you can find a build that fits you.

also, guilds aren't server-restricted and you can play as a guest on every other server, so there's only one GAF guild. Netcode is great too, very few EU players had problems playing on US servers.

1. The game allows people to visit different servers to do PvE content, so even if you go to x server and the majority of GAF is on Y server, you will be allowed to do dungeons together, tho right know EU GAF is deciding server.

2. My friend that have a shitty laptop(with a worse CPU and Integrated graphics, tho i would recommend to upgrade to 4gb) played the game so i suppose you can with those specs.

3. Hell yeah they are cool, you receive more cool points if you roll Asura Guardian. Greatsword + Hammer Guardian is a blast to play.

Playing through faction campaign for HoM stuff atm. So painful. Question. Will GW2 have any vertical progression at max level or will it be completely horizontal?
