Hey guys, had two weird Guild Wars 2 crashes over the last week and a bit. The game will go to a black screen for a bit then return, updating every few seconds essentially being a slideshow, even after closing hte game my entire computer will run like this and I will need to reboot the pc. Nothing in task manager and GPU temps never get over 70c~

780 GTX Overclocked ( Stable in BF4, Firestrike, Crysis 3 ect have tons of time played no issues)

i5 3570k

8 GB DDR3 1600mhz

First time I got a driver display crash due to my GPU hanging but I have a feeling its either game or driver related. I only have this issue with GW2 and its only happened twice after the last week. I doubt Nvidia will fix it since the game is old.
The second time it did it I didn't get a driver display crash.

I have the same CPU and RAM. The game didn't like my 7950 overclocked, so ever since reverting to stock speeds I have had no GPU-related issues.

Yeah. if I pushed my 780 anything past the factory OC gw2 didn't behave well. Other games did fine.

Congrats to the winners today :)

Aw, I hate downclocking :(. Uninstalled Nvidia Virtual Audio ( Shield related ) Going to test it out, hard to know since it happened like twice in 10 hours. Weird since it barely uses my GPU (40-70%) Hopefully then new drivers fix them. The Beta ones say they improve stability across all games so I'll give those a shot when they are final. Would I see a performance loss even if my GPU isn't being used all that much?

Also I really need a party or something, servers are very lonely

I know RadeonPro can set different clock speeds for individual games. I would imagine that Nvidia Inspector has something similar. For this game the prevailing opinion is that CPU speeds are far more important that GPU raw power. Anet optimizing this game for multiple cores and hyperthreading would do more wonders than us overclocking the GPU.

Are you in the GAFguild? The officers are pretty good at adding people from this thread.

Are you in NA? Really should join GAF and guest to SBI.

I'm going to be home soon and I feels like some god damn gw2. I think I'll lead some Orr temples if anyone is interested and a dungeon or two.

Trying to take the guild photo, and of course people can't resist turning the entire group invisible or photobombing:

But in spite of all that, the end result turned out pretty nice. Sorry if I didn't get anyone in the shot, or if someone's blocking someone else. There's only so much I can do as an owl :p

lol. I don't think that was even an intentional photo bomb. That was me arriving after I think escorting our last person. Although I might have been running around the caves first for an achievement before making it for the photo.

Haha that's funny. And I'm the one who accidentally hit 9 to turn people invisible.

Guys, what graphical settings are you using?
My computer can run the game at 35-40 fps at 1600*900 with everything at high/ultra, except the number of characters and reflection (I honestly don't see the difference between Terrain and Sky and all), with native though, with supersample I get like 15-20 fps.

Didn't know you can customize GW2 music by simply using a playlist file. *plops a bunch of Ragnarok Online music in it*

Speaking of which, how did the guy in this video got that main menu splash? Mine was a generic window with sylvari art.

I believe the sylvari updater was always there, but they got rid of the splash screen and added the login to the updater.

The splash screen was cool, but I can't criticize them for streamlining the login procedure.

Weltall, as he is wont to do, long ago made a java applet that helps with the generation of the playlists you might want for replacing the in-game contextual music.: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwgV6PdDgkbBTUlpdjRzT01KTUE/edit

This, is a great thing. As much as I love GW2, I find the music bland and forgettable. So now I finally have a custom soundtrack, thanks to this tool.

A shuffled mix of the Dragon's Dogma OST, .hack//SIGN OST, Journey OST (the game), Outcast OST (dat Moscow Symphonic) and a few randoms. Game has improved dramatically.

Having "Dragons Dogma - Into Free" as my menu music, is perfect.

*cries* I love Jeremy Soule. Still, after multiple thousands of hours, it's impossible for it not to fade into blandness. Mixing it up with your own tracks is a great feature.

You can use it to simply rearrange the in-game tracks too, if that appeals to you. "Fear Not This Night" is my login/character select music, as it always felt more like the game's true theme to me (this trailer is the explanation).

A couple bits of news:

  1. A daily attempt at Teq on an NA server scheduled for EU-friendly times is being run on JQ. For our gaf members that want a nice shot at Teq when they feel like it but get cut off because of the reset time difference, have a look.
  2. Based on the success of Levyne's giveaway (thanks again!), I will be running obviously smaller, but weekly lotteries with a pooled jackpot for attendees of Saturday Night Fever. Those of you who were around for Jira's first few lotteries will get the idea- the second guild bank box will be open for the lottery, and you can buy a maximum of 5 "tickets." You'll also get a ticket just for showing up on Sat. nights. More details to follow!

Game is so dead we need to bribe people to play it.

Also, good choice on "Fear not this Night" for the character select screen. I took it to the next level of nerdery and actually have playlists for individual characters.

That's the thing. I appreciate the artful construction of the pieces, and I liked the GW1 music enough that I wouldn't turn it off, but GW2? I turned music off within the first week. Perhaps there just aren't enough tracks or something, but they became repetitive and quite grating to me.

You're welcome! I had nearly forgotten I had made it (thanks Hawkian for remembering!). Hell, I myself should use it; I've not done so since beta or early release, even though I have a lot of Chrono Cross/Xenogears/Xenoblade/Okami tracks sorted by type.
Incidentally, I read your last sentence as "So now I finally have a custom soundtrack, thanks to this fool." It was funny, in a Mr. T. kind of way. :D

I noticed the largest improvement was with boss fights. The game's own boss fight themes aren't all that recognizable, upbeat or different to regular battle themes (exception made of the track that plays on the latter half of the Gamescom trailer, as well as in some bosses like the Molten Facility final bosses). So having stuff like this or this start rocking as soon as a boss fight begins is a great way to get your heart pumping.

Thanks, noted! I haven't even seen the new Teq yet, let's see if I have time to check this. I'm assuming this is every day?

Yeah, I went ahead and just dumped all the GW1 soundtracks I had (even a lot of Factions) into my gw2 music folder. It's kept things fresh since launch.

GW2 over 4G LTE is incredibly smooth, and uses minimal data. I like this. Now I can really play anywhere if I have my phone and laptop with me.

Now I gotta test this when I play League of Legends...

There was a day where I had cable go out and had to tether my laptop to my 3g phone in order to complete the daily in time.

Hilarious or fucking stupid, you decide.

Still trying to let go of righteous yard stick. I can be annoyed at unconstructive bickering on this place, but when I see the bullshit other places, I can get really fired up; http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/400886/I-see-why-this-game-fell-off-hard.html

It's not even that they dislike the game. It's that the rhetoric tone of it, comes out as an agenda against the game. I hate how they formulate their constructive nagging nagging nagging with this out-of-frame, out-of-reference to anything else out there and just derail because it's not guild wars utopia.

I was at that forum in 2004 when the original beta came out for the first game, and it contained just as many haters for that game. There is fortunately a lot of love of guild wars 2 on Neogaf (not many cared for GW1 in it's OT) but if you were a new person and you came by a forum that had that derived agenda hate towards it, you might never play it.

I'm trying to follow the Retro-path of not getting involved(don't even have an active account) and maybe I am even spreading the negative seed by posting links, but I just can't help myself as I ponder on why it gets under my skin when people are being unfair towards things I like.

When a gaffer writes a post in any thread, with GW2 coming up that he thought it was a disappointment or that he liked some other game, it does not phase me at all. It's when I feel people are projecting propaganda through preferences, were this membrane becomes this cohesive attempt to belittle everyone else. But to even be effected about what other says online means that I fail the very first rule of the internet. Don't take anything seriously. smeh.

The only tool I know is surrounding myself with positivity, but it's not like gw2 reddit or the official forum is not also full of agenda based haters who are angry because it's not Utopia.

Louis CK: It's as good as it is. Why would you expect anything better? < Talking about why people are unhappy and angry at their advanced smartphones, and about how it will never be enough. It's like this idea of how things should be in peoples heads is so important that reality is offensive to them.

I swear, the new faces are full of fun, especially the "does this look like the face of mercy" female asura and charr faces.

Also been meaning to ask, how come my exploration is missing 1 entry even though I 100% the map?

174/175 Kryta, 59/60 Orr, 172/175 Shiverpeaks, 162/167 Maguuma.

If you are not an Order of Whispers you probably never went to the Chantry of Secrets. There is a POI in there.
