That sounds awesome! Can anyone join in or do you need to be a certain level?

Some you can do at very low levels (Langmar Estate is in Plains of Ashford, for example), some are max level only (Crab Toss, Quaggan Rush, etc.). Since the game randomly pick the Mission location / target, we don't have any control over what level players can access it.

That said, we always try to get people escorted to them if it's not too unreasonable, so if you're close to the level of the mission we'll try to get you through. Level 30 is probably a safe number for at least Puzzle and Bounty. Maybe 50 or 60 for Rush and challenge.

The puzzles are all in 15-25 areas or lower and a fair number of the rushes and challenges can be done below 50 too. If you can make it for mission time, just try to watch guild chat and we'll get you to whichever one we roll if it's doable.

Well I'm level 16 atm so by the time the next puzzle comes up I should be alright? I'll keep an eye on the schedule :)

I made the mistake of reinstalling Guild Wars 1 and remembering just how awesome the game is. I really don't know why they changed so much for 2. I guess the new one is more accessible though. I still love GW2 for what it is and have put over 300 hours into it.

Is there any chance that they could reset the skill system to the old way with dual professions or would it just screw everything up?

EDIT: Looks like I wasn't the only one revisiting the past recently. :D

Dual profession probably won't come back. It seemed like near the end, most people were using main class + pve skills in pve, and pvp was boiling down to one or two utility skills even then.

And yeah, much as I enjoy GW2, I can't say its reached the same level of GW1 for me. That was just the perfect game at the perfect time. Also like to remind myself that when we were playing Prophecies, we had no clue something like Nightfall was even possible. So there's no telling how GW2 will end up.

But I definitely believe missions will return in favor of a personal storyline, things like the Traveler, Underworld/FoW, the Zaishen Order and all that will come back before its over with. Probably HoH in some form too.

So today my three-person guild decided, hey, let's 3-man AC path 3.

And we did it! Zero wipes, did *all* bosses (Kholer and Troll!), and didn't even have issues with the Burrows. Took around 30 minutes.

Mesmer, Engineer, Engineer. Both Engineers in full Celestial (all gear, weapons, trinkets), and Mesmer in Valkyrie/Dire, I think.

A little group shot to commemorate the event.

Also, how cool is that unfinished section behind the boss? I really hope they do something with it one day, or move it somewhere to use it, since it's *really* interesting.

Pre-event for Megadestroyer glitched out today, but at least the view was still pretty:

The guild missions that I was able to take part in were a tonne of fun! Thanks to everyone who helped me find the locations and get through the missions.. The puzzle was fun and the rush was cool even though my low level made it a nightmare.

The last room in the puzzle was especially cool.

Yep, mission make-ups went well. Had about a dozen people, which was more than enough for Snowden puzzle. We got Trillia for bounty so that was quick and easy, Spider Scurry for Rush (everyone who needed to got through, including Braxzy). Save our Supplies for challenge, but TAC from Eredon Terrace was there and between the two of us (about 24 people total) managed to finish with 5 barrels standing. We got credit for it without any issues.

Working on the OT4 now, I've shown a few people the design I'm going for and so far everyone seems to really like it. Should be done well before we need it, we're still like 300 posts away.

I just want to offer a counter perspective, I had 1800 hours in GW1 and loved it but consider it to be almost unplayably arcane today. I like GW2 vastly more, but I would definitely count on the same kind of evolution over its lifespan as GW1 saw by the time GWEN came out.

Awesome job on the makeups guys! :D Braxzy sorry you got spiders for your first one, lol

What weapon "association" should I focus on for later levels of Greatsword user (with possible Axe/Mace alt)?

I was leaning towards "Berseker's _____" (Plus Attack power and Ferocity). But I'm concerned about longevity and contributing better to groups. Should I stick with Berserker or move on with a different, less offensive weapon/armor slight?

Coupla pages back you can get the breakdown of dps vs survivability according to set.

Long story short, if you feel too fragile in zerker, feel free to go full soldier (or knight). you`ll give up a bit of damage to gain a ton of survivability.

I assume you are playing warrior, which means that playing greatsword should involve berserker's because it depends on power for damage and precision to stack might. Ferocity pumps the damage even further. You could mix in soldier's stats so that your power doesn't take a hit but get more survivability.

The only set with high power and secondary precision that has defensive stat is Zealot's (power, precision, healing power). It's not great for your own survivability but it's nice on a shout healing build where you want to maintain good damage. Goes great with Healing Surge too, since the stage 3 heal scales really well with healing power.

So uh, I take it Ferocity and Precision need each other, right? Like if you focus on one you should focus on the other.

It depends on the build. Some people go Precision specifically for condition or boons that only activate on crits, as well as sigil effects. Some people go pure Ferocity and use tricks to get guaranteed critical hits or boosted Precision through traits and Fury without having to use much if any gear for it.

Generally speaking, if your build is based around direct damage and you want to make big crits happen, then gear for both.

Precision is good by itself in a build that uses on-crit effects a lot, but ferocity always needs precision AND power to be useful. Increasing the critical damage doesn't do much if you don't have a good base damage to start with (power) or you don't crit much (precision) since it increases the damage of every critical.

I usually make my gear for the elementalist Valkyrie's ( Power Vitality Ferocity ) and Knights's ( Toughness Power Precision ).

i dont know yet how effective health works in the game but, while valkyrie gives me more Hp, Toughness gives me more armor...

for the criticals, i put a sigil of precision, giving me some extra crits, then, if i want to crit some more i just equip a signet that gives me extra precision.

or even trait myself to crit a little more, also, since i swap elements a lot, i get fury disponible to me very often.

remember, my builds are situational, and i adapt them to the current situation at all times. im not EVER stuck with the same skill bar or trait lines. nothing for me will ever be optimal.

This is why I run celestial armor and trinkets on my ele. It gives a baseline for every build that I can adjust as needed with weapon and trait stats.

Works great with persisting flames for general play using zerk weapons and gives enough healing power to make use of benevolent water with staff.

Spent the entirety of today losing in WvW and in tournament PvP. Such a glutton for punishment where feels like everyone is full berserker while not taking any damage.

How does the guild lottery work exactly ?
I found a post that seems quite old about it on GAFguild.com, is it still the same ?

Also, I'm curious how others have set up their hotkeys for the game, because I feel like most of the problems I have with playing more complex builds with my engineer is because my setup is not that good.
I see people on videos having things set like this : "S+1" what does it mean exactly ?
(and for those who play with a controller, how do you handle targeted spells ?)

Guild lottery: buy up to 5 tickets for 1g each. After guild missions, one ticket is pulled up at random and the winner gets half the pot that everyone put into while the rest goes toward guild influence or other useful things.

The S in S+1 mostly likely means the shifty key as a modifier. I don't use it much myself. I keep my F keys, weapon skills, and wasd movement on default but change almost everything else. R,f,c for utilities, 6 for elite, z to interact, q to dodge, e to heal, u for autorun.
I used to use - for weapon sheath/draw but that key is almost unusable since a cherry coke got dumped on the right side of my keyboard. Now I use *

I miss the golden days of Guild Wars 1
One of the best games ever in my opinion.

The combat was so satisfying.

As much as I like GW1, I always had a hard time enjoying the feel of the combat. Even now, replaying it, it's just pressing 1 through 7 (8 is pet) and waiting for everything to die. Granted, I'm using a super-lame Rit build to cheese through content, but it's "optimal" since a) it's faster than alternatives and b) the content isn't really challenging, just time-consuming.

Unless I'm missing something somewhere, I always though the combat system was interesting, sure, but not satisfying. All I'm asked to do is babysit bars and kite in a circle when the AI goes for me (since it always goes for me, heroes seem super-low on priority).

Granted, perhaps I just need better builds for my heroes and myself, I dunno.

I've been playing GW1 from the very start (and still do, occasionally), but I never knew about the minion window...

Never played a Necro huh? Rather important there. :p

I played Warrior and timing was everything.
Guild vs Guild was pretty tactical as well, Monks keeping Warriors alive, Rangers trying to interrupt skills, Mesmers trying to shutdown casters, and Elementalists wreaking havoc and area denial.

That and assaulting the enemy base.

Guild Wars 2 is way more fluid twitchy in that regard, and less diverse in terms of builds.

Since it looks like it will be a while before I could get decent crafting, where should I go for the next tier of weapon and armor? Right now I am equipped with a full set of rates from world bosses.

If you're level 80:

The next step would be Exotics.

  • You can buy them using Karma from the Temple Vendors in Orr (the temples sell different stat combinations, which you can see on the wiki).
  • Or you can get a full exotic set via Dungeon Tokens from running Dungeons.
  • Or just buy a set off the Auction House.
If you have a lot of Karma saved up, I'd say go for the Temple armour, getting the pieces you want with the stats you want. If you'd rather have a full Dungeon set, run that dungeon until you have enough tokens for all the pieces. But if you've mostly got money, and don't mind spending it, the auction house is your best bet.

If you're not 80 yet:

Stick with your rares, and don't worry about it. No need to get exotics until level 80.

If you need to gear up in exotic tier gear, the cheapest way to do that is either picking it up at each of the different god temples in orr or buying it with dungeon tokens. Each statue/dungeon has different stats so shop around. Not only does this cost you no gold, but you will actually make gold doing both.

I need a bit of advice :

I am currently running a Sylvari dual dagger elementalist build and is currently at level 15.

I know where i want to go with this build ( A powerful glass cannon type ).

I would like some advice though on what objective's i should aim for in terms of armor , traits or crafting professions .

I am already know that end gear weapons will be berserker daggers .

I can't really comment on traits because I run a staff ele mainly but, if you want to craft your own armors/weapons, you'd want to go Tailor (light armor) and Weaponsmith (daggers). Just note that tailoring costs around 22-26g to get to 400. Weaponsmith is between 18g-23g. You can get back some of that through selling but it won't be that much. If you want to craft ascended eventually, that'll be way more. I personally have been extremely slow in my crafting from 400 to 500 collecting the majority of needed items rather than outright buying. Cuts the cost but man does it hurt seeing an inscription that I could sell for 8g create a weapon that sells for less than 2g.
More than likely, you'd end up wanting zerk armor as well but you've got time to decide that.
This website gives a pretty good idea on costs: http://www.gw2crafts.net/total.html

I too run a staff ele but I want to comment on a couple points:

1) Dagger/dagger is not one of the elementalist weapon sets I associate with being a "glass cannon," namely because you lack the cannon. D/D simply isn't bursty enough, succeeding rather through consistent pressure, mobility, and a bit of condition damage. Sure you can build D/D glassy, but you'll lack the burst of S/F or staff and the survivability of more balanced D/D builds.

2) As to D/D traits, the Water line is popular because most D/D builds use cantrips, namely Armor of Earth and Lightning Flash (to land Eruption). Arcana is also very popular for the Vigor on Crit and Evasive Arcana traits.

3) I see a lot of talk that appears to be about crafting by new players. There is no real reason to craft other than making ascended gear, and that shouldn't even be on the minds of new players. I believe new players should:
a) buy new green and blue gear from the TP every 5 levels,
b) buy an exotic set at 80 and/or assemble with karma, dungeon tokens, or WvW badges, and
c) worry about crafting at endgame.

I was reading the summary of Living World Season 1 (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1) which is remarkably detailed and a hell of a lot of text, when I came across the Timeline page again on the wiki. I'd seen it before, but I'd never really paid much attention to it.

I really like how the Personal Story takes place in a specific time, and then Living World continued onwards from it in real-time.

Huh . i always thought that an elementalist by it very nature was a Glass cannon since most video's iv'e seen of them they have low survivability but great damage output .

Also at your first point .

A) wouldn't the cost of doing that outstrip the rate at which you earn money ?

Elementalists do have low survivability and great damage. But D/D is about constantly applying damage to your foe while staying mobile. There's no single devastating attack like staff's Meteor Shower or scepter's Lightning Strike.

As to the latter, I'm no imaginary economics expert but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't. Greens and blues cost what, ~2 silver each? So let's assume you use one two-handed weapon on average, that' s (6+3)*2 = 18 silver for weapons and armor. And even if you replaced them every five levels between 1 and 80, which is unnecessary, that's 14*18 = 2.52 gold. Which is much less than it costs to level a crafting profession.

Attention, GAFGuild members!

The guild roster was up to 498 members, and we're picking up new people every week, so we needed to swing the cull bat and remove some folks who were not playing any longer.

Anyone listed as "Unknown" in the guild roster (which means they have not logged on at all in the last ~4 months) has been removed from the guild. If you resume playing and want back in the guild or got removed by mistake, just ask. It's not personal.
