Guild Wars 2 |OT3| Two Week Updates, One Box, Zero Subscriptions

Not open for further replies.
That explains why the Pavilion is temporary; eventually, at some point (probably in, oh... I dunno... 2 weeks or so?) something new will come out and the number of players required will dwindle, in the same way people stopped running old raids when the new ones came out (unless, of course, just for fun... or is my guild the only one that did that?).

I haven't heard anything about the Gauntlet disappearing though; since it's solo content and (according to that massively article) "have their own category in the achievement UI and are not necessary for completion of the Queen's Jubilee meta achievement", I think that particular part might be sticking around. Not 100% sure though, we'll have to wait and see.

From MMORPG.com: (just spoiler tagging the boss' name, it's not anything lore related that I can recall).

From Dufly:

Very nice.

I got so many characters leveled because of the sanctum champions circle. I still need to get Mesmer, and Guardian to 80, it's going to be sad and slow without Sanctum.

My 80 ranger hardly had any of the map discovered. All I needed was my main starting area, lion's arch (get there with the wvw warp), and sanctum. If I didn't want to try different pets I would have had even less of the map revealed.

I didn't even vote yet, nor knew where to vote until I just googled it now. I lived in Sanctum since it was introduced. I think I have about 200 voting tickets.

Just vote evon.

I love the Sanctum Sprint though, and Dragon Ball the month before.

I just realized I didn't play Dragon Ball.

I think I gained liked 15 levels from the Zeyphr Sanctum on my Guardian. Each event handing out 2-3k XP a pop was real nice. Plus you could finish a lot of the daily achievements there pretty easily.

I just realized I didn't play Dragon Ball.

You didn't miss much. It sucked.

Just a heads up!
The Zephyrites will stop accepting Support Tokens on August 5 at 11AM PST in order to start counting them up. Be sure to turn in your Tokens before then!

That is today, in less than FOUR HOURS! If you wish to cast your votes for a candidate, you will need to do it before 2pm EST / 11am PST today!

What is this madness? My world is upside down..

She's not posting every achievement, every weapon skin, and youtube videos of how to do every single thing. In fact, she has a bunch of drawings, so I think they even kept the press from taking screenshots (nobody else has any new ones that I've seen).

I'm fine with Dulfy when she isn't using a Press Preview to systematically turn content into a strategy guide / checklist of tasks to perform... a day before the content even goes live.

I just realized I didn't play Dragon Ball.

That's a shame, it was really fun. It felt like Unreal Championship.

I don't blame Dulfy for that because there are legions of GW2 players that want exactly that. I blame the players.

Anyway, the Crown Arena sounds like what I'm most interested in. Since it's in Lion's Arch I'll probably take my Mesmer and Necro to do it since they're both humans. And I'll probably want that torch for my Mesmer.

The currency wallet looks ugly. At least I won't ever be looking at it much. And I'm glad there's a mouseover too.

Edit: Thanks for the heads up about the voting. Overall, I put about 200 tickets for Gnashblade. I prefer to have Abaddon as the Fractals feel like they're mostly about stuff that happened/will happen outside the scope of GW2, and having an Abaddon fractal would continue that theme.

The problem is that due to content being temporary, there isn't much room to explore. It's easy to get lost in the game, nothing is really ever told to you. Hell, they don't even cover dodging in the tutorial.

A guide like dulfy's is nice to figure out what you're missing out if you don't have time to get lost. I personally only use them the weekend before content is removed and often times I'm surprised by some additions as I don't ever follow announcements or even read the Arenanet emails.

I used a guide on dulfy to get the kite drops. don't even care, not enough time in my day to search around for places I'd never been before.

The blame doesn't rest on any one person or persons. The players bear some of the blame, but Dulfy is the one using her press preview access to instead stripmine the content.

I'm opposed to Dulfy for the same reason I was opposed to Public Test Realm data mining and such in WoW; it creates a community expectation that everyone is supposed to know how to do everything before they do it. Putting all of that out there a day before it launches is really the core issue, I have no problem with the guides themselves. I know a lot of folks don't have time to do everything and a guide helps, but does the guide really need to be up before the content? I say no, and apparently ArenaNet agrees because the last two updates, Dulfy hasn't had anything up in advance like she used to.

I prefer to find things out myself, but I know I'm not representative of everybody. But people usually figure stuff out pretty quick, so the information is usually disseminated throughout the community by the end of the first day. I loved doing the Aetherblade and Molten dungeons with no prior knowledge, likewise the Guild Puzzles. I like thinking on my feet and figuring stuff out. That first time we did the Langmar Estate, before Dulfy had guides up, was magical. Having everything out early just rubs me the wrong way. I know a lot of GAF felt the same when we were just starting Guild Missions and while everyone else was trying to find Guild Trek locations on their own, people using the guide were just pinballing around the map knocking them out methodically. Where's the fun in that?

Anyway, the Crown Arena sounds like what I'm most interested in. Since it's in Lion's Arch I'll probably take my Mesmer and Necro to do it since they're both humans. And I'll probably want that torch for my Mesmer.

Crown Arena is in Divinity's Reach. And yes, the wallet isn't a very effective use of space, but at least there's the mouseover. I suppose their thinking is that you won't pop the currency wallet open that often, instead relying on the vendors themselves (which always display the relevant currency).

There's a vendor in Lion's Arch, the "Black Lion Weapons Specialist", hanging out above the TP vendors. He has a tab for all of the Fortune Scrap items; the Helms (250 each), Catcher skins (150 each) and the Sanctum Supply box (10 each). I don't think that's going away. If you don't have scraps in those quantities, I don't see much point in hanging onto them.

Since everything is account bound, there's no way to earn scraps later. You could always theoretically save them and hope they're used again in the future. Since we're just now coming up on the one year anniversary, we haven't seen if they reuse currencies. The Zephyr Sanctum being Living Story, though, probably means we won't see them again.

If you're desperate, you could always grab some of the kite fortune boxes off the gem store. They're not too outrageously priced.

I'm sitting on maybe 400 fortune scraps. Now to decide how to use them. :)

I'm sitting on maybe 400 fortune scraps. Now to decide how to use them. :)

You could always save 250 for a helmet. The non-bound Sun and Lightning Catchers are still 3.9 and 4.9g respectively (the Wind one is sitting at 11.45g), so if money isn't a concern you could scoop those up for later.

The helms are really the only thing you won't conceivably be able to snag later. I'm not a fan of them, but maybe some day I will, so I'm tucking 250 scraps away for when they introduce the Zephyr Knight profession.

Can't say I much care what the wallet looks like :p It should be seamless.

Should be a list. Maybe there's more to it than what they've displayed, like you can click the individual currencies and have it tell you more about them or something. After all, it's displaying currencies that account has none of, so it's likely

Still, that could be done with a tooltip, so... yeah. Maybe they'll change it later. But damn, I'm just happy to have a wallet (and two tabs of bank space back, at least).

Jira

Member
Yeah I'm not too thrilled on how big it is and kinda clunky looking for what I expected to be a smaller more list like window. The tooltip helps though and of course as Retro said you won't need to look at it that much and the vendors have the currency amounts on their windows.

Guild Wars 2 : players will be logged out of the game starting at 12:01 AM PDT (07:01 UTC / 09:01 CEST) and during the maintenance, players will not be able to login to play.

The Gem Store, Currency Exchange, and Trading Post

Buy.GuildWars2.com

Register.GuildWars2.com

The Guild Wars 2 Forums will be closed to logins

We appreciate your patience and understanding and hope that you find something fun to do while we conduct this maintenance. : -)

I don't pay for downtime ANet. /unsubbing. This will be their single longest consecutive downtime in the history of the game and the 2nd or 3rd longest in their company's 13 year history. The longest was 24 hours for GW1 when they had to physically move data centers. They apologized profusely for the interruptions cause hell players weren't used to the idea of downtime from ANet. The likely cause of this is to do database work for the wallet system since they're converting items to UI.

Apparently the Finishers tab is about the same size, based on the drawing Dulfy has up. Both are very similar to the Achievements tab as well; remember that that's most a bunch of boxes too (well, rectangles, but still).

I don't pay for downtime ANet. /unsubbing.

Well damn, there's a first time for everything, I guess. That's 3:01 AM to 9am Eastern Time, by the way... doing it in the middle of the night is better than doing it in the middle of the day, at least.

It was barely down during the BWEs too, for what it's worth. Maybe a few hours right at the start of BWE1? And yeah; they probably want to allow a lot of uninterrupted time to make sure everyone's loot gets carried over. It's not just dungeon tokens, but everyone's gold, karma, glory... pretty much everything that matters. Getting this right is a big deal, so that doesn't surprise me... still, their record to this point was practically flawless.

Well that makes taking tomorrow off to play before patch awkward.

Yeah, but you have to admit this was really unexpected. I mean, most MMOs have scheduled maintenance every week; Tuesdays were always boring because WoW would be down for hours, and during the middle of the day instead of overnight to boot. This is the first time GW2 has actually been down for more than an hour since launch...

Since you're off tomorrow, maybe stay up late and play tonight? Then sleep while they update.

Yeah all told I still believe even with these 6 hours of downtime the game has seen less than 20 hours of downtime. That's some efficiency.

Patch sound pretty good so far. A bit disappointed something that is apparently so good is temporary, again. Hopefully they at least take whatever concepts used in the Crown Pavillion and push them out to the world events... they could use some anti zerging.

As a side note, the multi quote feature on this forum sucks. It doesn't deselect the people you quoted, so every time you go to post after that you've got their quotes in your reply box. I had to go back a few pages and hunt down who I quoted to deselect them.

Imagine if they added anti-zerging mechanics to the Fire Elemental event. People's reactions would be priceless.

Yeah I haven't actually done the events there in awhile. That said had I spent all my time there instead of actually enjoying the game in the game world, I'd probably be level 80 instead of level 62. :p

So haven't played this game in months, but with the Queen Jubilee happening I thought I might get back into it.

Just have a quick question since the can't really find anything on the official forums. Have they improved engineers? When I quit turrets and the flame thrower were useless and everyone basically spam grenades.

I think that may be their eventually plan; Peck mentioned in Guild Chat a few times that they want to revamp all of the world events, but said something about the engine or tech isn't ready yet. The clearing out of Magic Find Gear shows they're not afraid to make big changes to make the game better either.

No thanks, I don't need a scandal in the pages of Mother Jotun magazine, on BLNBC or the Charr News Network.

Someone will chime in momentarily with better answers, but yes, they have been. Most notably to the way the healing turret works (I believe it drops a water field now?), a variety of tweaks to the tools (flamethrower is better now), and some mechanical changes (most notably with the rocket jump having some weird animation lag). Everyone's been getting improved lately, even if not everyone (Ranger, mostly) isn't right where they need to be yet.

I also find it funny that people are voting for the obviously shady and self-centered Evon rather than the paragon of virtue Elen is. I want to believe that it's because they don't get to actually "live" (in the literal sense) in the world that results from that choice... then I remember election results in my country.

Also, regarding the currency wallet, it is my expectation that they made it huge so that they can, later on, reduce the boxes' size to accomodate more currencies easily. On the other hand I think it already has a scroll bar, so perhaps not. I don't even like the current achievement window at all either; for how carefully designed everything else in the game is, all these seem really shoddy.

One thing is for sure. Many of the world events could use better HP scaling. Wurm and Fire Elemental sometimes don't even last 30 seconds.

Yes! Oh please oh please. Don't get me wrong, the event train is a good cash source, but the events need to be more dynamic and challenging. I've mentioned before, but sometimes it feels like people treat it like they are ticking items off their grocery list. Not fun! (To me anyway).

The bilge and bile spewed onto the official forums at a change would be such a hoot.

People vote for obviously shady characters all the time, often when they're running on platforms that are directly responsible for the continued misery of their supporters. I won't say more than that since politics and religion aren't polite conversation, but people vote against their own self-interest all of the time.

Also, since we're nearing the end of the election and nobody called me on my intentional mispellings of Abaddon for the last week, I guess I'll just post this now;

I already had multiple 80s, I picked the same races pretty much, so I was trying to get 80 asap while the area was still there. I going to try to knock out some levels on my mesmer since that will be the most difficult to level compared to Guardian the normal way.

And this is how I am with mmo's these days. Get leveled fast, do the rest if I feel like it. I also solo all the time and GW2 is awesome for that. Don't have to join groups, usually people can just join in on what you're fighting with no penalty.

Guild Wars 2 is literally the only MMO I don't play like that. Probably because you get experience from doing everything so I don't feel the need to prioritize my leveling.

Grenade spamming is still top tier. Max range with some of the highest sustained damage in the game.

Flame thrower is just nowhere near it. Which is silly considering you need to stand face to face to get that thing to land a hit.

But traits were added / retooled. So you might be able to find something that works. I personally couldn't stand to play as the class knowing that I could only reach maximum potential if I clicked on a button feverishly.
Why won't they make grenades targeting enemies instead of spots of land and include auto attack?!

It's a lot better now; sometimes Wurm would be dead before his health gauge even displayed in the UI. Personally, I think more HP is just boring. I'd like to see enemies use more abilities with scaling rather than just being tougher to kill (Golem Mk.II is like this).

For example, if enough people show up when you're killing Wurm, a second or even third wurm (depending on how many are present) should burst out of the ground when the first dies. Or maybe you're doing Ogre Wars and just as you're about to head in and fight the Foulbear Chieftain, some kind of dragon or something shows up and you have to temporarily work together. Like "Oh my god, it's Bigger Jaws! Now we have a common enemy, we have to work together!"

I got like 3 tokens but i couldn't figure out where i use them..haha

There are two baskets on the Zephyr Sanctum at the top of Labyrinthine Cliffs. You can get to that zone by taking the boat from Lion's Arch (Sanctum Harbor waypoint). Each basket is labeled with who you can vote for.

And this is how I am with mmo's these days.

Sad, but true. That sort of ties into what I was saying about Dulfy though, sapping all the mystery and excitement out of a new frontier. The "Wiki says there is nothing here. Ignore" comment, mainly. I still stop and do events even if I don't really need them; they don't take long and how can I say no to a Quaggan begging me to help his friends?!

Ranger has seen ton of improvements. Blast finisher, stealth, longbow arrow speed/aftercast improvement, cc on off-hand axe as well as small buffs like retaliation on axe 5, the pairing of two useful spirit traits into one "must-have" Vigorous spirits for anyone running those, the weakness buff for axe 3, significant signet improvements and lower cooldowns from the big balance patch.

Only thing that anet seems to hate is the shortbow.

I didn't mean to imply Rangers haven't seen improvements, just that out of all the professions, Rangers seem to be the ones with the most remaining valid complaints. I was actually thinking their melee animations locking people out of dodge and their pets still being a liability in certain encounters.

Everyone has been getting better for a while now, but that last patch really brought everyone up a notch.

Fire Shaman is best example of how a boss fight should vary. Multiple phases, each with different abilities that call for different tactics. Example: One phase his special attack is ridiculous ranged AoE. A well placed reflect does a ridiculous amount of damage to him.

Fire Shaman is also the best example of damage sponges. With enough people there, the guy scales to ridiculous HP amounts. Which is silly because all those added players aren't necessarily dishing out the same levels of damage.

Only thing that anet seems to hate is the shortbow.

I feel like every class has at least once weapon that gets no love and exists purely as a trap for new players.

Shouldn't people that actually do fractals and the stuff voting effects (not counting way point, and opening BL chests) get more tokens than people like me that only tried the trials solo once? I did do the sprint, and hunger games events a ton because of the guaranteed money and chance at back pieces that sell for a couple of gold.

I looked at that vendor npc which waited in between the voting baskets. He sold 10 votes for 1gold+ and I had 200. I would have sold those things off in a heartbeat. I really hope they weren't sellable because I didn't even check.

They're supposed to be putting in a scaling system that will spawn champions as more people show up, which should help a bit, but yeah, more abilities, more complex fights are needed. I'd love to see mobs start dodging player attacks too... though that won't work well for the big bosses.

I'm a big fan of multi mob fights too. A couple bosses with abilities that complement each other make for far more interesting fights, IMO. I'd love it if their champion spawn system they're working on spawned champs with abilities that were mainly for assisting the boss in the event, instead of just being random, dumb champs. Make it so players are required to prevent those champs from helping the boss while also killing said boss or the entire fight becomes more challenging.

EDIT: At least, I think they're bringing that champion spawn system to other events outside Southsun/Orr. I thought it was in that mid year update Colin posted, but I don't see it. I can't find it elsewhere, either. I swear I've read that though... hmm.

Guardian Shield. Made worse by the fact that they offer it as a reward for finishing the prologue:

"Hey, I'm a big giant Paladin guy who protects people. The shield is a natural choice!"

one_hour_laterolrb9.jpg

"Why does this weapon suuuck in PvE? When am I ever going to be able to make use of the absorb? Why does Shield of Judgment never seem to hit the right targets? This blows I should have taken the effing focus."

Sophia

I see Shield of Absorption used all the time in high fractals.

Yeah not talking about that tho. It has it uses in end-game group content, but it's the worst possible choice offered to a Guardian after the beginning. They don't really have anything to use it on, nor do they have any chance to make good use of it. Unless they jump straight into sPvP or World vs World.

Fixed that for you!

Torch is an excellent weapon for low-end PvE Content. It'd be a far better weapon to offer than a near useless shield. :p
