I don't know why people are expecting this to be so far off.
I mean, the console release might be a bit, but it's very likely that it sees release this year.

Persona 4 Arena was announced in August, it came out March.
BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma in August, came out in November.
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core+R was announced in like April(?), came out in October.

Because situations around Nesica (P4 BBCP) and All.Net are so different.

I was saying earlier we will probably see it between November and February

That's too much. ASW fighters usually give each other around 9 months breathing room.

Since BBCP isn't coming out in NA until 2014, I can only assume arc would space it out so that xrd comes out in NA during 2015. If it was also gonna release in 2014 that would be great, but that would mean I would probably stop playing BBCP. :(

Well BBCP comes out October 2013 for PS3 in Japan ... so probably early 2014 for NA and somewhere in late 2015 for Europe.

I see what you did there. Here's me hoping our fellow Euros can enjoy ASW goodness at the same time as in the Americas.

yup, 2014 at the earliest. I can easily see it being 2015.

It will be 2015. There's no reason for Arc to rush a release. I also expect a good possibility of a PS4 exclusive.

What I was referring to above was US release of BBCP (Japan gets that 10/24)

probably not long after arcsys got rights to guilty gear back.

I doubt it. Working on this AND the +R update seems unlikely. As I said before, I don't give all of this any more than 6 months combined of work.

ASW may not be that large, but it's sizable enough such that there are a variety of teams working on multiple projects at once. And it's not like the +R update probably required a large expenditure of resources, anyway.

But in any case, hints from Ishiwatari talking about a new "GG for 360/PS3" can be found as early as back in 09. They likely were working on R&D for such a project for quite a while, before being able to ramp up development at full speed ahead once they got the license back and got the greenlight from higher-ups.

After all, remember how there was actually a team at Capcom that was working on Rockman DASH 3...even before they officially got the greenlight to proceed development on it (which made its later cancellation all the more sad)? I wouldn't be surprised if Team Red ("Team Neo Blood" under a new name?) had been working on this game even before they got the license back.

Besides, it'd give more credence to what Ishiwatari actually was doing these past few years besides just cutting a few new tracks for BB and making appearances on the BB radio show here and there. Oh, and Hard Corps, too.

exmachina, can you make an avatar of sol's new DI from that trailer?
please? if it's not too difficult? ; ;
I had to copy and paste from a bunch of different frames because there's so much flamey stuff covering the screen, lol.

I stole one of the Ky avatars a couple days ago. That Dragon Install one is really nice. Thank you, ExMachina. :)

I can't wait to see Axl's redesign. Or maybe he's Raven now. I dunno. I need to read the GG2 plot summary again.

Axl can't become Raven because they are two different people. *alternate dimension Axl*

Were years revealed in the main timeline?
If Guilty Gear 2 was an alternate timeline, then Bullet Heaven might not have any real implications.

I have GG2 and I've only played it for like an hour or two... I couldn't get into it. Heard the multiplayer was pretty dope though. I wouldn't mind if they incorporated some characters from that into Xrd. I don't know anything about the story of GG so I dunno if it's really possible story-wise though.

Tried playing AC online with one of my friends earlier tonight to see if I was just remembering the netcode wrong. There was noticeable input delay in every match. We get great connections in literally every other game, including vanilla MvC3. I really wanted to help him learn the game, what a shame.

So is 2D officially dead now? What's the point of 2D sprites if 3D looks just as good?

As mentioned in another thread, Xrd's method works for characters that don't change topology too much, but try something cartoony like darkstalkers or skullgirls where limbs can have huge differences in shape with each movement and most of the workload gain from having a 3D model is lost as you need them for all different shapes.

Some GG chars do change heavily like that (Faust, Axl with his chains, Zappa, Eddie's blob)

Although it's not going for a 2d effect, Smash Bros seems to have no problem with animations that involve deformations, like limbs growing in size for an attack. Of course, that's different from characters that actually transform part of their bodies into completely new objects, but GG has both anyway, so they should have some answer to those problems.

Would be too amazing to see this as soon as E3, but I'm sure TGS will be the next time we see this, and only for a few more character reveals. Don't see it coming any time soon and they just wanted to give GG fans hope as soon as they could.

Yeah, that's why I specifically didn't use the word deformation but instead talked of topology changes. A deformation keeps the same mesh but moves vertices around, changes in size on any axis are fair game,as well as any thing where the second mesh is already there (like a mecha opening its arm to launch a rocket). A topology change means the underlying mesh and rig (the puppet strings, so to speak) change, like a fist turning into an anvil or a classic elbow-articulated arm turning into a floppy mr fantastic rubber arm (or Millia's hair because the longer it is the more intermediary points it needs. Or even one strand turning into two is a rig change). Both can be faked but it's lots of work and more or less the same method as doing it correctly: you need to model every possible topology and rig.

...this wasn't the announcement I was expecting. Welp.

Does Arc know if they screw this up, then they're probably going to lose quite a lot of fans? Hell, the decision to go 3D models for this game will cause enough complaining.

I think they've shown that they made 3D models can retain the look.

I agree, I never liked that game, gameplay, story and even design it's not very good in my opinion, the music in the other hand is fantastic as always.

Unless Ishiwatari surprises me, I don't think he's going to retcon anything. It's still his story to tell, after all.

Besides, the main thing should be is that we get the likes of Sin, Izuna and Dr. Paradigm added to the roster and get them into a (hopefully) BETTER game, not retcon them out of existence.

As long as the story is less convoluted than BlazBlue's and the characters are cool, I don't mind keeping Overture canon, never played it though.

I hope the story addresses the Outrage/Jinki weapons as that was one thing I thought was pretty cool but wasn't delved into very much.

Sega better give this a Steam release. If KOF XIII and MK do well, that should do it.

Not up to Sega. ASW owns GG in its entirety now.

The only reason you see SEGA on the trailer at all is because Xrd will be on Sega's RingEdge 2 hardware.

I really hope it's not PS3 now.

If NRS and Injustice were able to do well enough, I'm sure ASW can do just as well, if not better.

Do we know what engine(s) Battle Fantasia and GG2O were made on, for that matter?
