What an episode...

Episode 9

The fight was pretty good, but the animation is still a step down from the first season. In terms of general polish a lot of the scenes tend to feel more rushed and less detailed. The suicide explosion by Kakita was really nice though. Other than that, I enjoyed the battle or what it is, and some of the surprises towards the end was pretty fun. It did end with a punch! But probably not the way we expected! :D

Gundam Build Fighters Try Episode 9:

Ah yes, so at last we have reached the regional finals and the big showdown with Team G-Master, the regional rival that they have spent a good episode and a half building up as a great nemesis. I am pleased that all did not go to waste as Team G-Master proves to be the most tenacious team opponent yet, taking our heroes to the limit and forcing them to use pretty much the full arsenal. Also, that ending was booked perfectly. Gold star Build Fighters Try, though please try to keep the Tomino sensibilities on the Tomino show, we really didn't need the casual slapping. Also, I am personally getting tired of the Slap, Slap, Kiss trope.

Episode 9

That punch at the end needs to be explained. Maybe the builder isn't as good as he thought or Sei left behind an awesome build.

I need some of that old Yuuki/Meijin music.

Finally, a fucking great episode although I'm still not sure what super burning mode does

Also did Sekai really get scratched in the face when that missile hit his gunpla? lol

Well I finally understand the difference between Battle damage level B and A! All is right in the world... Though I do wish the show would have more of a 'build' aspect to it like first season.

Hope we'll get to see Gyanko's new machine she mentioned in a future episode. She's a much better character than her brother was. And her R-Gyagya shouldn't be damaged at all either...

All around I thought it was a great episode! Am going to do a second re-watch now.

I imagine this is the entrance examination for the Gunpla Shingyo School.

So true, it's scary.

Very good episode. They obviously are working with a lower budget and this is where they put the money in. Even so, they seem to have limited the choreography to keep it from going too nuts.

I'm glad we finally get a semi-explanation for Damage Level B and A though, lol. Makes a lot of sense in that respect but we didn't see it until this point.

God, I hope the scratch on Sekai's cheek foreshadows something stupid and insane like Sei sealing away Build Burning because it was too dangerous for anyone to pilot.

THAT 100% Synchronization.

EDIT: Both Sudou and Sekai are using machines built by someone else, but Sudou never achieved the same level of synchronization with Mega Shiki as Sekai did with Build Burning. Sekai's exhaustion was evidence of that, and I think Build Burning reacts in a very special way to its pilot. Sudou was, in comparison, merely relying on the build quality of Mega Shiki, and Sakai isn't even a good a builder as Sei.

EDIT2: BEARGGUY-F HYPE HYPE HYPE

What needs to happen is China Kosaka makes a cameo appearance and proceeds to beat the living crap out of Team Try with her Bearguys during practice match.

I bet she sold her custom design to in-universe Namco Bandai, which is why there are mass production Beargguys.

Beargguy is the RX-78 of Beargguys.

The way I see it

Damage level C is zero damage to the models

Damage level B is parts popping out of joints and polycaps, but easily repaired

Damage level A is total realistic damage

It's not being fixed. The damage is simulated apparently.

Ah okay, that makes sense. The big tournament should be interesting then, since no one understands how build burning works/is built.

Now this was a fucking fight. Sure the end was a-typical super punch. But! I absolutely loved the fact the other team combined into one gundam after their gundams were smashed in half. That's the kinda shit I love to see that's normally only reserved for the hero's team. Wonder what the secret is to Sekai actually being hurt during the fight.

Yeah. In the episode, Sudo mentioned that nationals was damage level A and was the real deal. So it likely will be a storypoint that someone will destroy or several damage Build Burning and they'll need to repair it.

I'm guessing that when it goes into that "super" mode then the pilot basically has to actually put his body on the line while getting a good power-up. It might explain why Sei didn't win again and sealed the gunpla away in a sense. It would put a lot of stress on the person using it.

I love the emotions in this episode, especially the surprise end.

I am not so sure about winning all the battle with screaming super punch, I much prefer the old gun + light saber fight.

These fights feel so undeserved in terms of victory. Like what, his will to not lose made the Gundam head hard enough to shatter the punching fist? Come on son.

Really liked the fight, especially the double-kamikaze, even though neither Gunpla was actually finished by it.

I was really hoping for full-on gold Hyper Mode for Build Burning, but the flame circle off his back was cool too.

I think it was more that the Hyaku Shiki was so fucked up that it just shattered on impact, rather than Build Burning's head being made of steel

turn A... in the swimsuit beacheps :(

really the only issue/nitpick i had with this eps is how freaking lame the 'final combination' looked.

so what classifies as a unit is down in this? Is there a 'heart' part of a gunpla that needs to be wrecked?

To those asking what happened with the punch at the end, well one gundam was made by Minato Sakai of the Shingyo school, and one was built by MOTHERFUCKING SEI IORI

GUESS WHICH GUNDAM WAS STRONGER?

YO HOW ABOUT THIS THOUGH

TURN A TURN MOTHERFUCKERS

lmao, It's using it's shield as a surfboard

And I hope they pull more of that wrestling/Super Smash Bros. shit where they do ring outs

I wonder how they'll handle Burning getting fixed.

Also if a gunpla gets destroyed in the simulation, where does the actual gunpla go in the lower simulation?

Looks like GBF's not just for Gundam references anymore.

They had that a few eps ago, a bunch of redshirt competitors who got sliced by team cross sword were based on some obscure mecha trio

...oh yeah this meant the Cross Sword team lost huh, I wonder to whom.

Probably being unable to fight in any capacity would be considered a down. The system likely scans the gunpla or the specs are input into the system so all possible modes of attack are known and when everything has been disabled, then it's considered out.

If you notice, both Fumina and Yuuma had most of their Gunpla destroyed in the battle but were still in the fight because they were left with their core boosters. The Mega Shiki had 1 arm left that was usable which is probably why he wasn't considered down until it shattered trying to punch Sekai. If he had grabbed a weapon instead it might have ended differently, lol.
