Gundam Build Fighters Episode 20:

I'll be honest, I ended up checking Twitter at points during this battle because every action, ever emotion, ever current and nuance was dictated by the big book of shonen tropes and cliches. That doesn't make the battle terrible but it didn't make it terrible compelling either but the real killer was this fight was asking for an emotional investment that Junya Inose could never muster. They tried way too hard to pass him off as the personal rival and yea the history was there but I never bought into the pathos due to the lack of screen time. On the other hand I most am liking the build up of Lucas Nemesis apart from pulling some telling not showing bullshit that has been a fairly major problem now that I think about it.

Meh episode. Only saving grace was Full Cloth finally getting "animated" and looking like a boss.

Too cool.

Did it really only take as long as Sekai took to eat lunch?

Even Gunpla Academy is afraid!

Though they'll probably still win next week, regardless.

Highest point of the episode was Suga getting his driver's license.

I wish they would have actually kept the entirety of the Denial fight into one Ep. There was no reason to split it up. It just made the fight feel less than what it was because of it.
I agree. :\

Yeah, this has become a problem with the entirety of the Try season. Though I'm willing to forgive them in this case because it's a direct parallel to Aila's first important match where she wrecked that one world champ guy offscreen.

This is glorious.

EDIT - HGBF 1/144 Crossbone Gundam X1 Full Cloth Ver.

You know your shit is OP when your I-Field is deflecting physical attacks now and you're pushing back Axis. The Church of Tobia is proud. Please job the fuck out of Gunpla Academy.

Also, Coach Allan recording in dat 12K.

This is really the biggest problem with Try. GBF plays and makes fun of the trope by constantly reminding that this is a game and the guys there were just having a friendly match despite the competition. For example, after the deadly match of Fellini and Sei (which was build up well because of Fellini's early introduction in the series), they hang together and fix their own gunplas because that's what people do.

Here, Inose and Sei played it so much straight. It's weird that GBF Try became the very show its predecessor made fun of.

So now that I get to see the Crossbone, the next grail animated MS would be the Penelope, and Xi. Please make it so, Bandai-kun!

Wow, the full cloth is beautiful, will get this kit.

And lol, that kid from season 1 is now European champ. Damn, those words from Aila has far reaching consequences.

I kinda wanted to skip that part because ugh.
What an episode. I get the one thing I wanted, but it's at the end of a really dumb rainbow summon. At least we got a look at the Crossbone. :/
Also, the HG Try Burning Gundam is AMAZING in Burst Mode. So freaking beautiful~

Episode 20

Pretty meh episode. Other than the CROSSBONES hype, the entire episode was shounen heart nonsense + bad character art + iffy mecha animation + still frames of reaction faces + recycled footage + terrible Sawano wannabe music. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I actually enjoyed the episode, but this two-parter thing has gotten very tiring. At least Sekai is coming up with new types of attacks instead of just punching people over and over again

Like others said this was a less than stellar episode. I wish Luka will win against the gunpla academy but he'll lose to their "teamwork".

Episode 20

Even when an episode in this show manages to be a cliche, or seems to be going down a checklist of the usual tropes, I'm still very much entertained by it. It just works for me.

That Crossbone tease was nice, but from the preview it looks like we get some full on action next episode. Though I doubt it's going to happen, it would be interesting if the Gunpla Academy lost. 3 more fights left across 5 more episodes.

How old is Akira Suga supposed to be?

Build Burning Fuck YES. Finally got that Burning Finger, took long enough. Weird that Sekai did two other attacks from the God Gundam before his signature, the God Shadow and Heat End. Still that part was awesome and seeing the Full Cloth animated is glorious. Hopefully he destroys the two chumps from the academy and has an awesome fight with Tekkaman Gundam.

But, Gundam The End doesn't look very Tekkaman like.

On the one hand meh climax. On the other, BURNING FINGER YES THANKS.

Also, i need to read crossbone sometime. (or even watch F91)

What a shit episode. So much goddamn teasing and so little action. And this was after last week's useless filler episode.

This season definitely feels like they rushed it out.

I don't think OG series really made fun of Shonen tropes. They just took those tropes, deconstructed it and immediately reconstructed them in the bound of one episode.

Try on the other hand is trying to be G Gundam with GBF influences.

It bothers me in some areas but I'm still enjoying the show. It is a step down from GBF though no doubt.

The fight definitely should have been a single episode but damnn if that wasn't hype. I thought the spirit of Reiji was going to appear or something. The rendition of GUNDAM BUILD FIGHTERS was so gooood and then everyone just in awe at what just happened.

Dat Crossbone Full Cloth though damnnnnnn

First episode that has really annoyed me. Didn't feel like the victory was earned at all. I knew he would win but it was a matter of how and that was disappointing. Unlike the battle with the SD-R team where I felt the victory was ultimately earned in the end. They worked for it. This kind of stuff annoyed me in the first season as well.

[GBF Try]: 20

This wasn't a very good episode but then again how could it be considering how flaccid this story arc has been. The 'rivalry' between these characters is so thin as to be essentially non-existent and I didn't care who won and who lost.

The promised battle of martial arts masters never emerged. A fight that should have been about mecha duelling it out hand to hand would obviously have required to much work in the storyboarding an animation department. Instead we get a terribly boring mirror match up consisting of one super attack, one big punch and then basically one more super attack. Boring. The moment that Sekai finished his super attack followed by the cut to the credits was fairly well done but that was literally the only good part of the fight. It was full of bad character animation, bad mecha animation and lots of stills.

Also, I hope you liked that finished because we're going to see it again 2 minutes later. Jesus.

The other exciting moment was the reveal of the Crossbone. However the following sequence, where Sekai encounters Lucas, fell completely flat. The director wished to invoke a creepy horror vibe but clearly hadn't got the first idea how to convey that to the audience (hint it starts actually having decent lighting in your scene). Meh,

Basically. It's really been like this since the start of the season, with the only brief respite being the training camp.

I don't know how they made the hypest martial arts Gundam showdown since G Gundam so boring but that just sums up the entire season does't it?

What a waste.

Oh can I also bring up how dumb assimilation is? I mean, it's been in the show since the Training Camp and I've always considered it a really stupid and cheap way to add 'tension' to a fight, but this episode really brought home what a garbage concept it is. GBF had a number of totally amazing fights which had no need for "but he really feels the pain of his Gunpla!!" bullshit.

Yeah, I really expected the fight to be better. If they don't blow the budget in the last few episodes, I'm going to be sad. I did like how it played out overall and I really dug the technique Sekai came up with. but they needed to build that story up from the beginning to make it have the impact it should have had. The shot of Try Burning on its knees and the Heat End hand glow was great though.

At the very least, they haven't ended every episode with a Build Knuckle like in the first season. I recall everyone complaining about that.

Also, Sei cares enough about his Build Burning to send his wife out on a plane to deliver spare parts but we can't even cut back to a satisfied reaction shot of him watching the fight? What gives?

I think they're just trying to mirror G Gundam's mobile trace system but have to keep it pg because this is a kid. Though Sai Saici was also pretty young and he got pretty messed up at times in G.

The Exploding Palm move at the end of the fight was glorious. Next couple of episodes are going to be amazing.

Also the soundtrack used in this episode was great. Fuck the haters.

Episode 20

I know many here hate the "Shounen" aspect of things but it always brings out the kid inside me every time heart and belief win over power/evil. I quite enjoyed this episode and the will of Burning to keep going was just great. Also Crossbone is enough to make me impulse buy. Jesus that's a thing of beauty

The episode was a complete flatline, more so than usual. It had mediocre character animation and so many stills in the mecha animation, having a worse schedule and losing animation directors really takes it toll. The storyboarding was just boring with so many intercutting monologues and reactions it just kills any momentum while the fight was completely one sided with only one mech beating up the other at any given time, how exciting!

Writing is as usual full of awful unearned developments with characters you don't even care about and there was even a flashback from the current episode itself!

Started rewatching season 1 today and I forgot how hilarious episode 8 is with the over the top American intros to the fight. Also Grecco is only 25 wtf
