I prefer the art in the manga. The character designs are less lanky, with some more defined musculature. They're also more rounded with larger eyes, which is why they look younger than they do in the anime. The characters actually kinda look like highschoolers most of the time. It's also generally just more stylized and expressive.
Not to mention the fact that Furudate is just a great artist all-around, with a great eye for shapes and perspective. Now as a bonus here he is drawing Hinata.

nah the manga art style is pretty bad. dunno how im going to switch to it.
Nah. It's actually the basis for the animation in the show

Yonafu said it best. I thought I was the only one bothered by how lanky/long they looked in animation and the opening song. Like they are stretched out some. Yea they look younger for sure in the manga. I was actually in the store reading some of the earlier chapters

Reading through the manga as the physicals come out, and I think that the show and the manga are wonderfully complementary experiences. The manga is extremely well drawn, and I appreciate the way that Furudate is able to portray the action in a completely readable way while making it perfectly clear what is happening on the court relative to the play (as opposed to something like Kuroko which at least in the first two volumes I think fails at). Meanwhile, the show has the god-tier soundtrack and also emphasizes key moments in a wonderfully action-packed manner.

In conclusion: Read the manga, watch the show. Enjoy this blessed series in every way possible.

Preach. The soundtrack in the show is so good

Damm episode 4 is just distilled hype near the end. I'm definitely going to rewatch the entire series from start to finish of this season once this season is done. I want to read the manga but i kind of don't want the surprise and back an forth of games spoiled lol, i don't think that final rally last season would have been as epic for me if i had prior knowledge from the manga.

So is this anime realist to a certain extent or does it have some bullshitsu like in gifs I have seen from Kuroko no basket?

Mostly realistic, Kuroko is basically a super power sports anime after a certain point tbh.
Yeah after episode 2 when you are introduced to a player who can perfectly replicate any move/action of another player just by looking at it once.

KnB is still hype though.

Oh yeah forgot about that guy, mostly just talking about the zone bs. Although I never actually finished it, still need to watch 3rd season.

This episode is what I've been waiting for in this season, some straight up hype. Man! That Tsuki block was just total rejection, from the best Ushiwaka.

Shiratorizawa is starting to warm up to me, but still not nearly as good opponents as the goat Oikawa and Aoba Johsai were. Let's see if they can get up there with them.

Aoba Johsai will always be their true rivals, I mean they are the last team in the ending sizzle reel!

The author gave them much more personal build up than Shiratorizawa for a reason!

I mean that's Kageyama's entire storyline.

Like I still feel that aoba johsai is the better team. And with mad dog, I think they'd be more of a match for shiratorizawa

Well, yeah, Seijo probably is the better team, but Shiratorizawa is the stronger team. Seijo is great at strategy, coming up with plays and counters on the fly, but all of that is meaningless against Tendo, who just moves on intuition, and Ushiwaka, who just breaks through everything with brute force. I do agree it would've been interesting to see how they'd fare with Mad Dog, but I guess we'll never know.

It would or definitely been a good match but they would not have stopped All of ushijimas spikes.

Mad dog was still to new to the team

This anime, goddammit.

This was just as good and intense as the Aobai VS Karasuno match point last season, imho.

Tsukishima is a god.

While true, it's not like karasuno has shit him down either. Oikawa is better than kageyama and while Mad Dog is new and wild, he's better and more valuable to he team than hinata. Mad dog can give you that extra threat of an ace in the serve and his spikes are also no joke. I think given more time oikawa could've gotten him under control and they'd be a better match up. At this point in the series, karasuno has no business winning this match

Nah, Oikawa was tilted from losing to Ushiwaka for 6+ years

He was mopping his ass in middle school and potentially elementary school

nah man.

hinata not only has his quick spike that is the fastest in the prefecture, but he also has the best stamina along with being the best decoy.

Kageyama is neck and neck with Oikawa.

They have already learned how to contain Ushijima who is in the top 5 of the country. Ushijima is still a beast though.

Karasuno is a top contender team because they continue to grow every match. lots of teams have peaked.

I won't spoil anything but just keep watching. They are the only team that could get it done this year

said but true. he has been losing to Ushijima for at least 4-5 years. runner up every time. kinda depressing.

Animated Goshiki Tsutomu is still a blast.

I wish they kind of put more focus on the score, I mean they just show it but it almost feels like a second thought here.

Oh well, still Hinata and Tsukishima still seem to be the best performers. I didnt realize how little Daichi does, and Nishinoya has a more miss than hit percentage going on.

3rd match needed to be skipped, you guys weren't missing much.

Great episode like always. lot of funny moments.

They changed some stuff and added some stuff in this latest episode, iirc.

The Aoba Johsai match flashback was not in the manga, I think - at least not there - (they used it in the anime to skip over the 3rd set). In the manga, the equivalent was
a short scene where some guys are entering the gymnasium talking about Karasuno being able to fight equally, only to show the score with them being destroyed.

I think it makes more sense to skip the 3rd set in the manga context, since it served a purpose there. The flashback was nice, though.

Hey Karasuno fanshits. Looks like it's over next episode - Ushiwaka gonna use his heaven cannon.

Did you reserve your lunch with obaa-san yet?

Are you talking about Shirabu's flashback? That was in the manga as well, at pretty much the same place too.

Most of the material the anime has been missing is audience reactions and things like internal monologues.

You're right, I just checked. There's a few things that aren't there, but the flashback is. Dunno why I forgot it.
