I think it looks pretty solid.
It's like the same downgrade on resident evil 4 to ps2, palletable by any means.

Wow, what a difference. They should ditch the XBox port, and just go with the 360 instead. Very disappointing.

Based on these screenshots, the following Xbox games have better graphics than this.

1) Riddick
2) Doom 3
3) Halo 2
4) Conker: Live and Reloaded
5) Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
6) Forza Motorsport
7) Ninja Gaiden
8) Rallisport Challenge 2
9) Panzer Dragoon Orta
10) Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

at least those games..

Are you serious? RE4 on PS2 looks extremely close to the original version. It's so close that missing details need to be searched for in order to be found. It also offers a few improvements.

HL2 XBOX looks FAR worse than the PC version in many ways. You don't need to search for reductions, they slam you in the face.

That said, this port doesn't look too bad in motion. It's just really ugly in shots. :( At least they added some "HDR-like" (that is, an attempt at emulating the look of HDR lighting without all of the benefits) effects to the game...

Leave it to dark10x to get defensive about the graphical quality of a PS2 title.

Some of the textures are definitely ass-tastic, but what were people expecting? If you can't play the game on PC for whatever reason, this should be a close enough approximation.

Here's the thing. PC games are designed to work on an array of different configurations. You say that it looks FAR worse than the PC version. Well, running on what sort of PC? The PC enjoys the advantage of being able to support gobs of memory along with a very high end video card. The Xbox obviously doesn't. I think these shots look good considering the Xbox specs.

You guys need to get a little context before you blow a freakin nut.

Saying that HL2 Xbox looks far worse than the PC version isn't the same as saying it looks bad, nor is it the same as saying it isn't impressive.

The textures in that first screen are horrendous. I don't know why, whether you think the textures in the other screens are good or bad you can't argue that they're considerably better than that one shot.

Those are N64 textures.

PC guys bitching about this (or should I say, console fanboys using the PC as a fuckin' crutch). Take a screenshot on a 733MHz P3, run it at 640x480 and make sure you only have 64MB or RAM. OK? How's it look now? Now Shut The Fuck Up.

You're right, but this doesn't change the fact that ridick, and at least other 5 Xbox titles defecates over hl2.

Nobody is claiming xbox to be a shit, just claiming HL2 DO look like sh**... well just a bit worse than top titles of xbox.

Except the CPU, GPU and RAM aren't just being used for gaming on a PC at any one point in time.

WTF ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!?!

Those screen look fucking awesome.

Man, you guys must be fucking blind or looking to start an argument.

You guys seen the 1up video? It looks very good in motion.

Yup.

Has anything be said about the loading points? Is Valve fixing this for the Xbox version?

If the game has limited loading I may buy it again to have a pristine experience.

Half LIfe 2 was the best single player first person shooter which came out in 2004. But the experience was marred by the loading points.

Ofcourse it doesnt look like the pc version. Its not even right to compare the two. IMO it looks fine and probably even better in motion. And besides even without amazing graphics this is an awesome game.

Last gen? As in N64/PSX?

No, not quite: last gen as in something that 'comes from the past', something i was playing years ago, not on par with today standards.
Not literally psx/n64, just something that looks from an outdated hardware, that's why i was wondering if my eyes have adjusted to X360 to the point i unconsciously consider it current gen.
I really think this looks worse than most xbox fps' though, in pics at least.

I was expecting the Xbox version to look identical to the PC build because I am batshit insane. As such, I feel compelled to mock these screenshots with verbal witicisms.

Suck it screenshots. Suck it straight to hell.

OMFG LETS FREAK OUT OVER ONE SMALL SCREENSHOT.

You sir, are a fucking idiot.

STFU Kthx.

You said the screens looked "fucking awesome" and I showed you one that, given the hardware, objectively doesn't look "fucking awesome". Forget to take your pills today, honey?

No...not at all actually.

I just don't see how anyone can say those screenshots don't look good. Sure, the first one has pretty shitty textures, but the gun model looks nice.

But I guess I should've remembered GAF is famous for judging and talking shit about everything, even if it's days or months before release. Or because one screenshot doesn't look superior than the PC version/original.

I wouldn't be so concerned with how the game looks. It looks okay to me. Remember the Xbox came out in 2001, plus this is a port so...

The major problems with this game were the loading times (not sure how they're going to get around that) and the stuttering. These issues trump how the graphics look by a country mile.

Seriously, you guys don't need to get so defensive about these screenshots, i don't think anyone here is saying they look bad because they're not on par with the pc version...this actually looks bad for an xbox title.
The best thing about them is, they are from xbox hl2 and those whose pc can't handle it will be able to play.

You see, this looks good

But hl2 pics are not what i would expect from a 2005 xbox game..

Looks pretty much like it did when I was running it on lowest settings on my old PC (or why I got a new PC).

edit:

wtf is the best way to describe this thread. I just watched the vid, the framerate is all over the place... and NO MULTIPLAYER?

Part of the problems lies in the fact that HL2 was not designed as a console game.

A lot of the best looking consoles games take a very different approach to rendering their scenes in order to make up for the weaknesses of the machines they are running on.

Exactly; the point is probably they just tried to port everything to xbox the way it was, without reducing maps size or the number of different textures or anything.
Other pc games were adjusted in other 'less visible' ways for their console ports, some cuts were made to preserve graphics. Maybe HL2 took a different approach, maybe it's better this way and maybe it couldn't be better than this, but in screens it does look bad.

If I buy this, it will sit there while I play 360 launch titles. Then it will drop in price before it ever gets played, and then it will be released on 360 with DOD source and Lost Coast in some complete directors cut full fuck all you suckers that bought the xbox version version. I will not get burnt again.

Thanks.
