Have you been naughty or nice? Maybe Santa cares about that when delivering Christmas gifts but we here at TeamXbox have a present for you regardless. You can wait until Christmas night to open your gift or keep reading for what might be the very first real info on Halo 2 Director’s Cut.

OXM was the first to report about Halo 2.5 revealing that the game is planned as an Xbox 2 launch title but now you’re going to read the very first details, straight from one of our most trusted sources:

“Halo 2.5 will be an Xbox 2 launch title and is going to run in HDTV resolution with new, improved textures and graphical effects. All the stuff that people expected from Halo 2 but didn’t make the cut will be there.”

Although our source didn’t specify which HDTV resolution the game will run at, HDTV’s lower spec is enough to get excited. Can you imagine Halo 2 running at 1280x720?!!! We also wonder what was meant by “all the stuff people expected from Halo 2 but didn’t make the cut.” With this kind of top-secret info, you don’t ask; you simply listen. We cross our fingers that this will include online co-op, more multiplayer maps, and the final conclusion to the Halo 2 story.

“The technology that powers Halo 2 has been designed from day one to take advantage of the next generation hardware,” the insider added. “In Halo 2, the Xbox was pushed to its limits but now the game will reach new heights with the advanced hardware.”

But that is not the only info our insider had for us as soon after he dropped the bomb: “Now, here is the twist. Halo 2.5 will come preloaded with the optional HDD. It’ll be one of the two reasons to get the Xbox 2 that comes with a hard drive. The other reason… well, you’ll just have to wait”

Sounds crazy to us but that’s what we have been told. Interestedly, if this is true, the rumor confirms the existence of, at least, two editions of the Xbox successor. Last month, we reported about the supposed Microsoft plan to release three versions of the Xbox successor. Although never in console history has an add-on sold enough to represent a large percentage of the install base, the inclusion of Halo 2.5 would probably sell millions of hard drives and/or other peripherals that includes this special edition.

And supposedly, there’s still one other reason…what could that be?

1) this would be interesting
2) it won't happen

....and the link doesn't work.

Multiple versions of Xbox2 has been confirmed in every way short of official confirmation, already. I will eat my hat if it doesn't happen.

This H2.5 stuff though... I think its boulderdash.

No it doesn't fuck a rehash!
I want the XBOX successor to be released in 06 then they should worry about Halo 3.

I don't understand why in God's name Microsoft would split its userbase. I honestly think that would be the worst mistake they could possibly come up with.

huh? why would they be splitting the userbase? I thought we went over this - they'll all play the same games - just some will be more equipped to handle other functionality (media center, backwards compatibility, etc.)

And I wouldn't mind it if:

a) it were free
b) it didn't include any expansion to the story (i.e. it was just new textures, models, less pop-in, and more multiplayer maps). This would basically mean it didn't really suck any extra design time from the new Halo, and was just a slight upgrade that allowed Bunige freedom to work on the true sequel.

If they actually extend the single player game in any way though it would seriously piss me off as a consumer. Give me a full-fledged sequel, not some half-assed extension on a next gen console.

halo 2.5 x2 launch, halo 3 to combat ps3 launch in 2007. BoE breaks the media. you heard it here first. tsc tsc.

stock x2 minus harddrive=$200
x2+ with hard drive, halo 2.5 and add on year of XBL=$279-$299

If this is true, fuck them. Why are they wasting resources to make a "director's cut" of the game?

And I feel ripped off

I don't like this news for a couple reasons:

1) I don't want to double dip with Halo 2. Forget about this and put all effort into Halo 3. Basically a move like this would be a punch in the balls to all Halo 2 owners saying "Haha you fuckers wasted 3 years waiting for this game!".

2) I don't like the idea of two different xboxen sets. More than likely this hdd bundle will be $349 or $399. :/

they arent wasting time. halo 2 looks to have taken a hit compared to all the mediashots and movies from the past. the textures and higher res crap are no doubt already sitting at bungie studios.

Yes they are. Resources wasted on Halo 2.5 could be applied to Halo 3. Ohhh higher res textures big fucking deal.

They dont have sources. One of their 'sources' in the past was curll (a poster on their message board) who posted completely made up shit about Rare owning the Zelda franchise.

They should hold back on xbox's successor.
N5 and Ps3 will be more powerful graphically, if it lanches to early they won't be able to implement newer technology.

Why would you complain if it came with the system for free though? It would require virtually no development work and, if they already have the assets, no artist's time either. It's win-win in my book if, like I said, it's free.

Because they need a guaranteed hit launch title that will sell systems and can't throw together a Halo 3 in time. I doubt it's really a directors cut for what they couldn't put in. They worked on that game for 3 years. It seems to be more of a "MS needs a title that will sell systems and can't rely on any other IP to do so, so lets throw together a list of improvements and call it "Halo 2.5" ".

Nothing in life is free. Plus it is coming with the hdd bundle which means that will be more expensive than the base unit.

I agree with you.
I can understand their reasoning on this but I don’t think it will work well if implemented; splitting a consoles user base IMO has never worked out well.

Exactly,
But again they should go back to the drawing board and give themselves that required time.
Honestly everyone that liked XBOX was drawn to it for being that graphical beast.
It's not going to be that anymore, this time it will be the underdog graphically.
If not I will eat my original XBOX with pictures posted for your viewing pleasure.

No fucking wonder why.... AHHHH how i hate marketing strategies... This is one of the worst and i feel ripped already if this is true.

People, stop worrying about it, no one at TXB knows anything. Seriously.

These guys once posted a story about how they knew Virtua Fighter was coming to Xbox, and when the story opened an audio clip of Dr. Evil laughing played. They know absolutely nothing.

No, see, the article suggests that one would come with HDD and one would not. That would split the userbase - severely limiting the online capabilities of certain systems. No matter how you "slice" it (literally), that ain't smart.

option #1, smart/compact flash card sold as accessory for mp3s, saves and downloads. 512, 1gig and 2 gig flavors.

option #2, embeded 256mb for saves mp3s and xbl. thwarts pirates.

option #3, i'm kinda thinking this whole harddrive thing is a no go because of piracy. halo 2.5 will come packed with the 2 or possible 4 gig by then flash card. big enough for music, saves downloads etc, cheap and keeps the unit small, small enough to not be able to do all kindsa pirate junk as far as ripping full games.

Sounds legit and an impressive move my Microsoft. With their system coming with an upgraded version of Halo 2, it will surely sell a ton.

Hmm, that might make playing Single Player a second time tolerable for me. I don't know exactly why, but I just didn't have a good time with the campaign this time around. Been putting off trying again, I could wait a year easy.

If this turns out to be true it means no PD0 for launch. There's no way they'd release both at launch, since halo would eat perfect dark's sales.

If they have either i'll get a Xenon at launch. I can't get enough Halo or Perfect Dark for that matter.

Seems Microsoft is taking a page out of Nintendo's book - when you don't have unique content to provide, re-release...and include the classic Mario Bros. game everytime, without fail.

How could Halo 2.5 eat away at PD0 sales? It would come with the system. PD0 would be sold separately.

Because most of the people will just settle for Halo 2 instead of buying a game at all.
