Halo 2 expansion pack coming ? *GAF explodes*

what´s there to bitch about? It´s not like those maps would have been released 11nov 2004 anyway..

You don´t HAVE to download them if they cost 25$

I, for one, sure will though.

DLC owns, the best thing to happen to console games since the analogue stick

Your part of the downfall of gaming, congrats

8 maps for $20-30?

Bungie and MS can fuck off with that ridiculous bullshit. They've really dropped the ball on this, and I'm pissed.

guess we will see in 5 years.. I bet sony AND nintendo will offer almost the exaxt same DLC service and charge for it.. will anyone complain then?

5 years ago it was strange to pay monthly for a MMORPG.. not it is common practice

I think Halo 2 is great for the most part, but 30 bucks for 8 fucking multiplayer maps is ridiculous! :lol

I think I'm going to get back into play UT2004 some more where I can get tons of user created maps for free.

People just don't want to pay $30-40 for a HANDFUL of maps. Quit implying "teh bias" and get over it.

8 maps for $30 ? fuck off.

here's a real expansion pack

324157ps.gif

# 13 new Single-Player missions!
# 11 new Multiplayer maps and 3 new modes,

for only £19.99 also.

Hahahaha, all these people complaining and I swear I bet most of you haven't played the game nor will you in the next few weeks/months.

GAF=home of whiny ass bitches.

Oh and Prine, dissing MVP...those are fighting words :D

i was gonna start playing again when patch/updates came...

but now, fuck that....

ok, assuming this is 100% factual...

... its pretty god damned lame that they'd stagger the dlc releases on live. now, i can totally see them packaging a retail disc of this for those that dont have live, and charging for it to boot. thats cool. would probably get them subscribbers. but what is the explanation for doing 2 maps per month as dlc other then to fuck over those that dont want to fork out more money?

That pretty much sums up all expansion packs. New single-player levels and significant new additions to multiplayer (In addition to maps).

If they release this, I'll just take a poll in the clan page and see what everyone else is doing, if everyone wants to pay to play them, then I will follow the herd, because I love the game and don't want to get left behind. If this happens though, i will not buy an xbox 360 or whatever the fuck. Games already just cost to much here, our dollar is catching up to US and I'm still paying 110 - 130 bucks for games like halo 2. If it's 30 bucks for US, that shit is going to be 60-70 bucks here.

While thats true, im not buying any premium content until I am assured I can download it to and use my gamertag to play it on any Xbox I want. As far as I know, you will have to buy the content again for every Xbox you have despite buying it through your Gamertag. Considering Xbox isnt exactly the most reliable console, I have my reservations.

Hella dudes ask,

What's up with the listing on Xbox.com in Korea that says the downloadable content is coming out as a retail game release??

Next week, we’re going to have a major announcement about the details of our new maps. Right now, there are some dates, details and ideas out there that are actually wrong, so please take everything you read between now and then with a grain of salt. We can't talk about how and when the new maps will be released, we'll leave that to the smart folks who actually do all the logistical work for this stuff – marketing and PR, but we can tell you this much - our entire plan is designed to make new content available for everybody, those with Xbox Live and those without Xbox Live. We hope in the end, everyone will be satisfied.

ANSWER THE DAMN QUESTION!

Gee, the game is OUT already. So much secrecy and BS over the so promised downloadable content. What a load of bullshit.

Well, could be worse I suppose. I mean thank god we don't have companies charging us 20 dollars for 15 year old games on handhelds. I'm sure GAF would stay far away from that injustice too, right? LOL.

What Bungie may do is pretty much the same thing as any other company . Its a business. A hot property is there and they are there to rake in the cash with it,I mean Capcom,Nintendo, and EA do it all the time. Sometimes EA's games are barely upgraded and have new roster updates. Capcom takes RE4 to the PS2.,just look at ther MegaMan compilations and the injustice they did to the Cube basewith the control configurations. Its sucks but thats the way it is,don't buy the stuff. And for god sakes Nintendo does it with those Mario Party games every year on the Cube, and lordy look at how they milk their userbase for old classic games that are ported on the GBA. It everywhere really, buy what you like and realize that its about making money,if the product is good for your enjoyment then grab it,otherwise move on. Just look at the fans that are willing to buy EA games because Mario's been thrown within them. There are those who will buy them on the spot. Is it right or wrong? Who cares,if up to the individual and noone else should worry then.

As usual you don't have to buy the stuff and you don't speak for the others that will gladly deem it worth the price.

Well, even if bungie makes these updates available, isn't up to microsoft what the do and don't charge for this? Or do bungie set the price?

Flawed logic you have there.

Nintendo charging $20 for a classic game isn't meant for you and I. It's meant for new gamers who've never experienced those games. Do I think that $20 is too much? Absolutely. But, that doesn't apply to this at all.

Capcom takes RE4 to the PS2? What does that have to do with charging for what is esentially a map pack? Or the controls for MegaMan? Are they charging people for a patch to fix the controls?

If this "expansion" set is simply 8 maps, then fuck them. And fuck the gamers who'll spill out the money for this. Don't come around here bitching next gen, when you buy a $60 game with 2 or 3 levels, and then every month or two after the fact they ask you to pay an additional $20-30 for an extra level or a multiplayer map. If you like that setup, that's fine, but I don't. So when you say that it's up to the individual and who cares, I care. I care because these "individuals", if there is enough of them, are going to dictate what happens in the future. They'll send the signal that it's okay to put less game content, and charge high prices for a couple of maps. This is the testbed for Xbox 360 Marketplace. They don't want you to buy additions for 50 cents or $1, they want you spending alot more than that.

Look at PC expansion sets. Stuff like the Balder's Gate: Tales of Sword Coast, or StarCraft: Brood War, or so on. Those are expansion sets because you actually get some single player, new units/weapons/spells, and more multiplayer maps. That is worth $30.

Oh please,spare us the drama.

Wow, the amount of knee-jerk reactions (emphasis on 'jerk') in one thread...impressive even for GAF. The fact that people here are bitching about the idea of having to -pay for something- (or claiming it doesn't cost anything to develop new levels) is amazing. Maybe if the game didn't come with a fair amt of multiplayer levels in the first place, or if this directly contradicted a promise...

Does someone have the quote everyone is referencing but no one is pasting where Bungie said all DLC would always be free? Cause when I interviewed them right after the game came out, and they said specifically they hadn't decided.

Did you ever think that maybe this disc won't be $30, maybe 20 or 10, or maybe the maps are just free on XBL and its a fee to get the disc? I mean really.

I do think it'd be better to just give the maps one or two at a time tho.

So everybody saw in the Bungie.net weekly update how they basically confirmed that this is happening (the expansion pack)?

Well, the reaction is to the apparent pricing of it. 8 multiplayer maps for $20 is just not that good of a deal. Specially when they've been delaying releasing them and even information about them. Considering the mountains of money they made out of the sales, it'd be nice if they could give something back, or at the very least maintain communication with the fans.

I will definitely get it. It's really not that much, but I'm very disappointed at how they have handled all of this. They could've released 2 maps for free a month ago, 2 more this month for $5, 2 more the next month for $5 and so on.

Percentage wise, as far as effort gone into making maps compared to everything else that is in the game now (code, resources, models, whatever) - the profit margins would be staggering even if they made people pay 10 bucks for all of it.

I'm not going to subscribe to this sort of practice in the gaming world. It's just a way to bilk people out of their money.

Map packs? Cmon. This is bullshit.

There's only like 10 new maps in the game. It wasn't exactly brimming with content in the first place, which has made for a kind of excruciating wait....and a lot of tension built up.

My only complaint would be with the reported cost per map. At $30-40 for the expansion you are looking at $3.75-5 per map. Even if I low ball it and assume that a mere 100,000 people buy the thing, that's 1/3 - 1/2 million dollars made on each map. I think we all know they don't cost that much to make. And at least 1-2 of the new maps will be Halo 1 remakes that they can almost effortlessly crank out. Either lower the price or raise the number of maps.

So how does that explain all the developers who release new maps, weapons, and play modes for free? Did Bungie forward all of their checks to Rare or something?

It's just a cash grab, nothing more. How do we even know they weren't sitting on some of these fucking maps after release day?

No one will ever know - except MS and Bungie.

Sales of the game itself go towards paying back all the millions spent on developing and marketing the game. Additional content still costs money to produce.

Funny how people like to keep boosting the price. For US gamers we have seen only one price and that is $19.99.

Where is $19.99 price? French site has it at 30 Euros (~$40 USD) and the Taiwan site doesn't have any price.

I was gonna say...first it was $20, then $30, now $40? :D

Anyway, I agree it would come down to a matter of value, how many maps for what price, in determining how good a deal it is, but people up to this point seemed to be spazzing out at just the idea they would charge -anything- for new content.

I still wanna see the quote where they said they would never charge for it. Anyone know what people are referencing?

Didn't we already go over this in page 2? Claiming "teh bias" over people pissed about this is equally retarded as someone bitching about it who's never played the game.

The game has sold more than 4.5 million copies. As a matter of fact, Halo 2 alone is the reason why Microsoft's H&E division posted a 80M+ profit. The game's first 24 hour sales covered development, marketing and publishing costs for Halo 2.

Additional content definitely costs money to produce, I am not debating that. But that's the case for every game that supports downloadable content. MechAssault, Ninja Gaiden, Splinter Cell, GR2, etc. have all supported downloadable content and provided some free of charge.

Again, I don't mind paying for content. I do mind having to wait so damn long for it when it seems they are done with some of the maps and sitting on them to release them with a pack and get more money out of it. Sure, sounds like a great idea for a publisher. It just doesn't serve MY best interests. The fact that they've been doing the secrecy stuff all over again certainly doesn't help.

Save your money and buy Phantom Dust. I really hope Bungie doesn't get away with this. Anybody who actually gives them money needs their head checked.
