Halo 2 Multiplayer Strategies Thread

Heh, so what if they can hear you...you giving vital information to your teammates has a much greater value than keeping silent because the other team can hear you relay vital info to your teammates...

Now if you're talking near the flag on sudden death and you teamtalk saying "I'm near the flag at location X, I'm gonna extend sudden death!", that would be a mistake

Some good killing zones for Slayer:

Ivory Tower: bottom floor near the sword and waterfall.

Colossus: Middle of the map on middle floor (where you land if you use the jump pad). Shotgun's behind a wall there.

Post more kill zones!

I've racked up a few kills there by going up the air vent where you get the shotgun, waiting to see gunshots and dropping down and (hopefully) picking off the 2 weakened people.

Oh, and I had a very very successful run on midship 3 plots the other day, this would work for bomb mode as well. Get the battle rifle from down by the jump that throws you up to the flag/territory/bomb site, walk to that bottom door and use it to pick off people running for that point. most people mad dash that thing and if your entire team does it as well, there should be people with low shield. I racked up a triple kill and a territory grab doing this. Got a few double kills as well.
as seen here.

A well-placed grenade does wonders when you stumble upon two or three people duking it out.

Their shields are already worn down, so grenade 'em.

post some strats for burial mounds someone. I suck BALLS at that level.

I now know you can jump through the front of their base, you just need to get on the other little wall that is out there first.

what's the best way to get the warthog up to the bomb point? I used to favour the tunnel, but that always seems to kill the entire team if you don't make that top corner well enough. maybe through the ribcage thing, stopping to pick up the sword and then up one of the ramps right by the bomb spot is better.....

to the morons. Please hit the white button in team games when you only want to talk to everyone on your team without the other team hearing you. thanks fuckers

1 Flag CTF on Ivory Tower (On Offense)

As soon as the game begins, take the elevator up to level 2. There's a Plasma Pistol available - Dual-wield the SMG and Plasma Pistol. Move forward to their flag.

Usually around this time a guy has picked up the rocket launcher and is running back through the stream to their flag so he can camp in the stairwell (with his back turned to you as he runs).

Hit him with a charged shot and SMG to drop him almost instantly. Depending on where the other team is, you can either grab the rocket launcher or run away.

Hopefully your sniper is in position at that point.

* If someone has a rocket launcher, and you encounter him with nowhere to hide, DO NOT RUN BACKWARDS, run forwards instead (shooting of course), because when he fires, he might kill you, taking himself too, which means YOU get the kill. I can't believe how many times that has happened. :D

* Learn the maps and weapon locations to save yourself frustration. Nothing worse than getting constantly smacked on a map by one weapon and not knowing where it is.

* Use the Feedback option for moron players, and use it well.

* Team Slayer: Stay in a group at all times, you never want to go Rambo. As soon as you spawn look for the closest person and grab a weapon on the way or anything nearby.

* Assault/CTF: Just made a offensive attack with the bomb and lost? For cripes sakes don't all rush in. Have everyone regroup at the base and grab whatever weapons they think they'll need to defend. So when you repel that attack you can counter in force as opposed to everyone just rushing in and trying to grab the flag/plant the bomb.

* 1 Flag CTF: While defending the flag never stray to far away. Most people have the pattern as soon as the map starts everyone grabs their set weapons and gets back to defend the base. Don't get caught outside. If on offense, always remember to attack in force and not try any Rambo garbage. You're not helping your team if they have to attack the base with 3 people instead of 4.

* If you've been playing offline for awhile, make sure you play a lot of Training matches or matches with friends to get warmed up before you play any ranked games. Always helps to have the controller a little warm before getting serious.

* Sword? That **bleep** can be side-stepped. Hard to time but its doable.

* Try to user Optimatch more than Quickmatch. I think Quickmatch has a tendecy to repeat more maps and gametypes then Optimatch. Its confirmed somewhere I just don't have the link.

* Patience.....ask anyone from RBBB that I've played against and they'll confirm I'm the king of kill stealing. Hear a battle going on to the left of you? Go check it out. I always see 2 people in circle fights with SMGs or whatever. Well I try to aim and kill whoever looks like they were winning the fight. Now the other person is still weakenend and usually doesn't know whats going on. You'll usually have no problem taking that person down either. Best combo for this vulture type style of play is SMG and Pistol. Usually both opponents shields are down so Human weapons will clean up the mess.

*Shotgun shotgun shotun.....time that bad boy. Take those extra shots from someone else to move in for the instant kill.

Stop shooting if you are in a circle strafe SMG war and your reticle has no target.

Not shooting improves your accuracy and turn rate. Use it.

Resume shooting when you acquire a solid lock on your opponent.

So many players get slaughtered because they keep shooting wildly even though they are not hitting anything.

I did something last night in a game of 1 CTF on Coagulation that I thought was pretty cool. I was by myself at their base on offense (as usual) and they had two players guarding their flag. I ran in, grabbed the flag, and then dropped to the lower level. At this point, the two guys were chasing me. I then crossed underneath and took the elevator back up to the level I came from. Then, I waited for them to follow. Once each jumped out of the elevator, I bashed them two times with the flag killing both.

After this, I was quickly killed outside their base but I thought it was a clever solution.

Not really advice, but something to tell the quitters pre-game:

Dinh asks,

I just want to report that recently a lot of people quit the Halo 2 (online) went they starting to lose. Please do something before this habit becomes a reflex, because it will affect the spirit of this game.

Those people are punished. They are tracked as having finished dead last, so it's good for your statistics and bad for theirs. If you're worried about ranking it is ALWAYS better to finish a game.
