Halo 2 street date broken

No go in Toledo!

But I traded in 5 titles at EB and paid $5.35 on a LE, so no harm done.

JUST READ THAT ARTICLE

TOLEDO IS FAMOUS WHAT!

TOR STOP TROLLING LOSAR

Ouch, word is here (MI) that their actually going to enforce some fines to Meijer's for today. Not sure what that means in actuality.

:lol GAF is teh famous now! How many more users until we see those "Server is too busy" type messages?

I compare people paying $170+ for this game with that dork who paid $200 for that gmail invite. ;)

I still can't believe that they just stack the dics in the box like that.

What's keeping them from rubbing againt eachother and getting scratched up?
Which is on the top?

I really don't want the LE edition just to spite Microsoft for cheaping out like that. I'm more likely to get a messed up disc from the LE it seems. That sucks.

Some of the eBay links earlier are not working now. Someone must be complaining about the street date being broken (or the links were FUBARed)

Found out my local EB got their shipment. The guides for it also came in, they can't sell any of it yet. It's a very small mall and they're expecting over 200 people just for midnight madness!

If you're in NYC, you might be able to score the game early. Saw this posted at CAG:

Thanks to c0nrad, who alerted us to a Gamespot article stating that Halo 2's launch date has been broken by a Midwestern store. From the article: "Several reports on the Gaming Age forums--which included photos of the limited edition of the game--said that several individual Meijer stores, a self-described grocery and general merchandise retailer that operates in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky, were selling the game early. However, calls made by GameSpot to several Meijer outlets made it sound like the franchise was sticking to the deadline." The reader continues: "Despite that, Ebay auctions have already gone up, with one having already reached $265!"

AP article about this, bolded an interesting point- GA is teh liarz they say:

DALLAS - Advance copies of the aliens-versus-space marines video game "Halo 2" have already fetched as much as $265 on Internet auction site eBay, days before the official launch.

The $50 Xbox (news - web sites) game, Microsoft Corp.'s flagship title, doesn't officially go on sale until Tuesday.

But in one eBay auction, an in-hand copy of the $55 special edition "Halo 2", which includes special packaging and a bonus DVD, sold Thursday for $265.

In a statement, Microsoft would only say it has been "working really hard to keep the 'Halo 2' plot twists a secret so everyone can have an equal opportunity to enjoy them. That will happen when the game officially goes on sale at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9."

In the game, players once again assume the role of super soldier Master Chief as he and fellow combatants try to thwart an alien invasion of earth.

Reports that copies had been sold at a few stores owned by Midwest retail chain Meijer Inc. were denied by company spokesman John Zimmerman. "There is absolutely no truth to that at all," he said.

Last month, a pirated, French-language version of "Halo 2" appeared on file-sharing networks and news groups. Microsoft said it continues to investigate that case and is working with authorities to track down those responsible. It's unclear how the breach occurred.

The problems apparently haven't affected sales: more than 1.5 million copies of the game have been pre-ordered.

Oh really? So those copies were delivered by the magical Halo fairy or something?

John Zimmerman is a liar. I had employees at several meijers tell me it was out, they did sell some and then were told to take it off the floor. The manager at the Wixom store told me they sold a few, but it was a mistake and they would not be selling more.
Tha manager.

LIES! LIEEEEES!
I know because a kid I know is in tears because a couple of his friends got it, and he didn't. He has to go until Tuesday without it and I think we can all sympathize with the level of disapointment and injustice this would be for a 9 year old.
Perhaps Microsoft should put Viper (tm) on the boxes that says, "DO NOT OPEN ME UNTIL NOVEMBER 9th!" and have a system set to electrocute anyone who touches, talks to or taunts the box of Halo 2 disks before then.
If anyone sees it anywhere (other places they hire incredibly idiotic people-- Kmart, Wal-Mart, == let's just say 'marts') give a shout out.

Well apparently, Meijer or whatever the hell its called isn't the only retailer selling official copies of Halo2. I work @ a Gamestop in a mall in Maryland and we've had our copies in the back since thurs IIRC. Seeing as I just got off work after being bombared by people who are like "omg i want to buy halo2...u won't sell it yet?!? omg u noob i kno lyke 15 people who have it", its ironic to see this post on GA lol. And these aren't blackmarket, burnt copies that I have been told about, these are official. I've had about 20-35 people come in during my 11-4 shift today come in and ask for halo2(even had a guy come in and ask for CODES for halo2) so it can't be only that meijer crap place that has broken the street date.

Or maybe they just know that stores have it in and they're hoping you're selling it. It doesn't really prove that other stores have broken the date....but we're so close to the official launch that I couldn't care less about this ;p

I went up to EB today to pay off my Halo 2 and they were getting ready for the Midnight Mandess crap. They got all these balloons and those neck thingies for launch. They also were wearing new X-Box Live Polos which looked HOT. They kept pushing me to pre-order another copy, like I needed 2. A Halo tournament will take place as well, had about 12 people signed up for it. This is going to be interesting because of course the employees will have to run the event, and one one is actually friendly. Anyway, they said they are expecting to stay open until 5 AM! I was like, "WTF!?!? 5 AM!??!" I can't see that happening at all actually. I mean, I would think they will be open until 3 at the longest. I mean, within 3 hours, all the pre-ordered copies should be given out. The manager said one store in Houston has 900 pre-orders. That is nuts. They said they were going to get some security for crowd control and theft control as well. They had Halo playing on the X-Box kiosk. They actually have a female working up there now. She is the assistant manager. Looks like an Asian mix. Maybe Japanese and Hispanic, I would hit it with the force of the Flood regardless.

I'll try to take pics of the launch (and the assistant manager) for the GAF News Network.

If any of the people who run the front page want me to write up a story, I will do so. Or atleast forward my pics of the launch to you.

My EB had lots of shelves cleared out on Thursday. Didn't bother to ask but I'm assuming they're gonna fill the hell out of it with Halo stuff

I dont think youll see the street date broken by any retailer that Microsoft is working with to promote the midnight madness thing. when I went to xbox.com and put in my zip code to check who was doing it in my area I was surprised to see Wal-Mart and Hastings (video, music, books, rentals store) on the list. the Wal-Mart is a 24 hr store anyway but I guess they are in some way promoting it though I havent been in that store yet to check. out of the two Gamestops here, only one is opening at midnight and I think thats because the other is in a mall. funny thing is, the Gamestop that Im picking up my copy at is right next to the Wal-Mart. I kinda wonder how many people might end up going back and forth between those stores. it might get kinda crazy and if it does Im just gonna get mine and get the hell outta there! :D

HG, I was thinking the same thing. Get my shit and go! But I figure it would be kind of cool to show pics of this kind of thing for people in cities without the midnight madness thing, then get the hell out of there! Hopefully we will get some pics of the NYC launch. I know in 4 cities in the US Microsoft is actually sponsoring events at stores. Which probably means some giveaways and such.
