I get it, it just sucks against anyone who isn't an idiot.
Agreed.
Thank god (and Bungie) for Forge.
Everyone was listing their favorite maps from multiplayer in the other thread, but since this is the official one, I thought it best if I dropped mine here.
God's maps:
I love High Ground, Snowbound and especially Valhalla (best large Halo 3 map ever - easily). Snowbound's been fixed in our group to be more balanced. If you've played the map, you know what I'm referring to. Last Resort is fun, although not nearly as fun as Zanzibar. The Ascendant guys are trying out Last Resort with Zanzibar's weapon distribution/spawn and the word on the street is that it is more fun. The Halo 3 weapon loadout on that map seems to favor offense, while Halo 2's is more balanced. Guardian is a great map, no where near to Lockout in any way, shape or form.
Fixed:
On default settings, I find Construct, The Pit and Narrows to be iffy. With BR-starts, no motion sensor and some minor alterations, they actually play very well, but I would easily trade them for Lockout, Midship, Ivory Tower and Terminal. Easily. In fact, I'd trade almost all of the maps for those four with Halo 3's sandbox and gameplay (minus the melee system). One thing I despise about those maps is the art direction. Its obviously an personal aesthetic, but while the backgrounds for those environments are awesome looking, the map itself is irrevocably ugly. Since Lockout is my favorite all-time map, this might seem like a dumb statement, but when those three maps play as good as Lockout, they can look as ugly as they want.
Zzz:
Sandtrap isn't what I was expecting. The media described a massively open map hemmed in by geometry and I imagined a warren-filled, sand dune-strewn environment with Forerunner relics around, giving the Elephants free range of movement. Instead, we get a figure eight painted yellow-ish brown. It can play well sometimes, but usually its too boring for me. I've never really liked large maps outside of Halo 1's, so Valhalla is the exception to the rule (dug Headlong on occasion as well).
Isolation needs lots of work and it may simply be not worth it. Pretty map, nice environment concept - far too cluttered though and the bases are, well, someone needs to be slapped.
Epitaph is unsalvageable. Completely broken. Has anyone figured out what that hologram is of in Epitaph? Mendicant Bias perhaps?
