Once someone is within abotu 20 feet of you the AR will win most of the time, this is a good thing otherwise everyone would just BR whore again like halo 2 :D

Nothing is wrong with BR whoring now that double shots are fixed. And nearly every other weapon is just as lethal as a BR, along with additions of bubble shields, and regens, etc.. for additional cover. The AR can hang with the BR, even if the BR was accurate. It's already proven.

I don't want this game to be Halo2, I just want it to be consistent.

This defense always baffles me, as people say it like Halo2 wasn't the most popular online game to ever hit the xbox. It's not like halo 2 was a bad experience, and if people really believe that, then why worry about them for the close of a trilogy? You take away some bugs and exploits from 2 and you have one amazing game.

I dont like dumbing down the proven formula to make it easier for casuals to get into. A matchmaking system that works should pair similar skill levels together, and not tailor the game so they can hang with the big boys. Cuz as it stands, most of the big boys aren't getting the same level of enjoyment out of the game.

Well i'm happy with the br, its my weapon of choice in halo 3. The hammer 99% of the time will beat a shotgun and mauler if your shield is 100%, they can get lucky with the shotgun and hit your head without a beat down but it's not that often for what I seen.

That's about the only good use for the hammer, oh and hitting warthogs half a mile.

what the hell, i just picked Heroic DLC playlist and it's saying (in blinking text) "One or more players do not have the maps for this playlist.." I was playing around with them in Forge earlier this morning too....

edit: nevermind, took a minute or two to recognize it I guess.

The BR is perfect the way it is. the only weapon I am a bit dissapointed with is the pistol. I just think they should have put the scope back on it is all.

Anyways, Since they just put the new maps in. Did they rotate new gametypes in yet? Like some One Sided CTF yet?

There are definitely some changes in the other playlists though I didn't play enough to tell you want. i saw 'Covies' variants of Sandtrap and Valhalla in BTB--Covenant vehicles like wraith and ghost and some extra covenant weapons (i think)

Standoff is awesome, only one I've played so far, my teammates were tards though. Objective games are so frustrating with random people...

Are the new maps in the regular matchmaking playlists yet? I remember reading that but wasn't sure if that was for this week's update or next week's.

next weeks. HBO has a post about some cool forged Foundries people have made. I saw Foundation, Midship, Mario Kart level, Prisoner, etc.

After some more play time, Foundry is my least favorite of the 3. And that isn't saying much because they're all great. My only complaint with any other map is that Standoff needs more BRs. At least one more on each side.

Theres 4 on each side i believe. Plenty for a Team Slayer match but in a 6v6 i suppose theyre a little hard to come by.

Rhetorical question: Anyone not have the maps yet, but kind of want them and also happen to be a swell person in general?

Just wondering.

Anyone want to dl my foundry map "Great Wall" and try it out with their friends or with me? I am looking for some feedback on balance and overall gameplay (suited for 2-team based matches, especially CTF)

here are some screenies:

I won't mind BR starts for Team Slayer in Vahalla, but CTF and other objectives? Why? Nothing like killing their entire team, grabbing the flag, only to get killed seconds later because of rifle shots hitting your back from their entire team.

Or killing their entire team entering the base, taking the flag over the man cannon and then having them spawn by the pelican and just wait for the flag to land.

someone needs to make "shipment" from call of duty 4 in foundry.
One of the popular creation appears to be Gridlock from Gears of War. I can't see how that could possibly be good in Halo, but people seem to like it.

The new maps are awesome, Foundry is just insane, always someone behind you, hated VIP is even more annoying on there. :lol Intrigued to see if they'll be a forge playlist at some point with people's designs in.

Standoff is cool, smaller than I thought, Warthogs can reign supreme here a lot which can be a tad annoying sometimes. I do wish there was an underground section to the other base.

Rat's Nest is ace, barely came up tonight though which is a shame, got a nice Killing Frenzy there tonight, Mauler in flag room ftw! CTF is lots of fun on there, always stock up on plasmas for those pesky jeeps :D

Can't wait for the ranked Big Team Battle, the only hopper I really enjoy, I don't really like small enclosed maps, I tend to suck even more then :lol

On a negative note, I wish the matchmaking would stop making the other team pretty much all Max Skill 40/45s and my team a mix of 11s (like myself) and a couple of maybe 40s. Is no-one low level getting these new maps? I've never seen so many stars.

As an aside, does it look at Max Skill at all when making Team Doubles matches for example?

I mean I know it matches me and my friend up fairly well within that hopper, but when our max skills are 11 for me and off the top of my head, 15 for him and they're both max 38, I'm pretty sure who is going to win.

The Foundry variants in one of HBO's top stories are fantastic. My favorites are Wiz V1 (Wizard remake) by Lekku, Midship by ll Metzeger ll and Block Fort DM by ThatsMyTrunks.

What is really annoying is that these people forgot to remove the spawn points that are outside of the intended area of the maps.

Downloaded that Killtacular with one Laser Shot just now. I'll watch it later. Also, before signing off I played 8 games in the Heroic DLC list. My first games on the new maps. I really like Standoff and Foundry, but I didn't get matched to Rat's Nest yet. Looking forward to it.:lol

Also, can't wait for VIP to be gone...

Sigh, the new maps are great but I can't seem to get that great feeling of enjoyment and satisfaction from Halo that I used to get. I just get bored after a handful of matches and end up turning off my Xbox or playing a different game.

I just randomly titled this Bridges. I haven't placed any weapons or spawn points yet. I just wanted to get the overall design down. Feel free to comment. It's in my file share if you'd like to download it and make changes.

Ah... Go ahead and call me a noob, but BR start on Gaurdian without maulers just sucks balls. Grenade spaming has increased ten fold, and the game I played was just so slow with everyone peaking out, tossing a grenade, taking a couple of shots, and hiding again.

I never liked team hardcore in halo 2, and now I'm getting it every other game in Ranked Slayer. With the melee broken, at least I could always depend on a quick switch to mauler/melee when rounding a corner...now that's gone too.

There is absolutly no reason to use the greenthumb button layout anymore. I guess I'll just stop playing ranked untill BR starts are moved to their own playlist, or I get used to the default button layout again. I know the leet players like the BR, and it is a great weapon, but I just don't find it "fun". IMO BR starts completely change the flow of the game and really shouldn't be in the Team Slayer rotation any more than Team Swords.

Edit: I don't want to just be complaining, I really like the new maps! (Foundry) It's awesome that there are more imovable objects, and walkways float when you delete the boxes from underneath them. No more using receiver nodes under boxes to create a floating platform. The hammer really feels useful on Rat's nest. Sandtrap is too open to get a good hammer kill on a vehicle, not so on Rat's Nest. And Stand-off is just pretty!

If we want to get a GAF Foundry variant game going some night, that'd be sweet. I have Hang Em' High, Foundation and Great Wall downloaded.

i'm down, having trouble getting my friends off of CoD4 for the new maps, been craving some big customs though.

BR starts on Guardian? OK, for Team Hardcore, that's great. I don't mind. But why in normal Team Slayer? If I want BR starts for a small map like that I would play customs or Team Hardcore.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Assault Rifle starts for Guardian.

i named a map with a very similiar idea Great Wall too, Mine is just two stories but i used walls and screen walls for roof, you can shoot at people above/below you in the wall. also my bases are completely different. Crazy you had the same idea and named it the same.
I'm working on a similar concept. A two-story barrier in the middle, with the only way accross via man cannons. The two on either end of the base launch to the top of the barrier, the one in the middle fires right into the opposing base. Several intertwining, sectioned paths lead to the flag. I'm doubtful any actual games will ever be played on it, but I've had a hoot building it. I'm almost done with one side of it.

I'm kind of curious how well the explosive barrels work at preventing people from getting to the sword. It's kind of a cool idea.

Foundation in Halo 2 did that as well. Also, I've now played 13 games in the Heroic DLC list and I've yet to get Rat's Nest. Bad luck.

They don't really, because the Grav Lifts are constantly respawning. If I were doing a once-over pass on his map, I might see how it played with perma grav lifts and then swap out the grav lift equipment with something else.

It played awesome, we had a blast. The wall actually made the semi-claustrophobic Foundry play much larger. All of us who played had a great time with it. It WILL be used again.

I periodically get sent swag and other goodies from Microsoft, stuff they send to all MVPs. I've been quitely giving most of that stuff away, for various reasons. Yesterday I got a code for the Heroic Map Pack, which I gave to ToyMachine228. I just recieved codes for Gripshift and Undertow, and I'd like to hand them out as well. (In fact, I'll probably start just giving out future codes in here for a while.)

I thought Insaniac's landing a map in the Humpday Challenge, and making a pretty great one to boot, makes a good place to start. So Insaniac - which would you like, Gripshift or Undertow? I'll give the one you don't pick to the first person who asks after you've specified.

You're in for a treat when you do. Rat's Nest is my favorite map in the DLC. The map makes it fun and easy to fight warthogs on foot, which I always enjoy.

Standoff, is like the best map to date in Halo.

I might even put it above midship :O
Its amazing how a mostly symetrical medium sized map did the trick.

I love Standoff's layout, but I'm not crazy about the current weapon placements. It seems I always have to run around for a few minutes just to find a weapon.

There are a shit ton of BR's everywhere, its a got a laser, 2 rockets. maulers, and shotguns. I think you just get to them late. :p

that was actually my original idea, it just eventually turned into a wall you can walk in with a see-through floor/ceiling and i eliminated the cannons (too easy to get from one side to the other.

My map also made foundry much bigger than it actually is. There just seems to be so many places to fight compared to the default set up where its just claustrophobic alleys. I'll put a link up later today, but mine doesn't look nearly as clean as insaniacs.

I've only played a couple on it, but its pretty good. Lockout is still my all time favorite, followed by hang em high, then chill out, and Guardian my favorite Halo 3 one I think.

There are a lot of weapons, but they're all very far apart. It sucks having to walk out in the open just to get a BR since the one you're by has not respawned.

Here is my map Tortuga it is a slayer map for around 8 to 12 players. There are 2 main power weapons on the map. One is a sniper that is in between 2 corridors with shield doors at the ends so i am hoping for some interesting fights for the sniper. There is also a shotgun at the top of a tower with stairs at both spawns to get to it. There is also a mancannon up to the top of the tower please let me know what you guys think, and anything you would change to improve the map would be greatly appreciated

Oh my fucking god sometimes I HATE halo 3 online, it is so broken it makes me want to throw my pad, and I hardly ever get this stressed.

I got the sword on the pit, crouched around a corner because I saw someone coming, I get the element of suprise and lunge him the MOMENT he appears around the corner and make a clean connect, half a second after my sword had just gone thru him I die because he had time to counter, I had full shield, TOTAL BULLSHIT!

Another match someone jumps over me after I start shooting him first, both with AR, I melee his legs and hear the noise and everything but the game gives him time to land and lay one on me after getting bonus time shooting me in mid flight after I melee.

This close quaters judgement stuff is total bullshit bungie, completely.

Standoff is great because of two reasons, it removes the fat of maps like Coag/Relic by making the play area much smaller than there usual large maps, and it doesn't have sniper rifles on it. Those are two of the main reasons I think it plays so well...I actually love neutral assault on Standoff, I've never liked that mode. :lol

Yeah the fact that it doesn't have a Sniper Rifle on it does make it unique and play better I think. But I also think Shotty Snipers on Standoff would be pretty sweet.
