Halo 4 Announced (MS Conf, 2012, Start Of New Trilogy)

Yeah, that was literally my first post after playing the Reach beta - it didn't feel like Halo. Coming back to it after a few months lost in Skyrim, I played CEA, and then Reach, and had the same response. One felt like Halo, the other did not. Reach's player weight is indistinguishable from input lag when trying to dodge and strafe. I find it really baffling. Its removal is my #1 wish for Halo 4. As you said, I want to pick up Halo 4 and think, yeah. This is Halo.

What does Halo feel like?

Hard to adjust to the new thrusters controls.

Can someone decode what "GUN B K" means so I can go back playing Asura's Wrath at ease? please?

"Going to be OK"

As in, Ghal should not worry about Reach-like movement issues being in Halo 4.

Considering the only games Microsoft has coming out this year are Star Wars Kinect and Fable The Journey (other than Halo 4), why bother having a showcase for two games?

you know, it may be impossible to imagine, but they actually might have more games in development than those.

I wonder if they will show off SP or MP first? I know traditionally SP is shown first, but due to the secrecy around this game I wouldn't be surprised if we got our first look at combat and gameplay from MP.

I would love a MP reveal first. As I don't want any suprises to be ruined on the story side of things. MP is a great way to show off the gameplay and getting everyone excited for online play. Possibly beta announcement?

Im thinking Halo 4 wont have a beta, but I would like to see MP first also to keep SP fresh. Of course I want an in game trailer for the SP, I just kinda want it to be shrouded in mystery and if thats the case, it can't show too much.

One way or another, I am getting anxious to see something. Its crazy how much we had seen from Reach and Halo 3 at this point. I would be happy with simple things like Gun renders, environment screenshots, in game MC, sound samples.. That would keep me happy even if we didn't see a trailer or gameplay. Although, what I really want is a behind the scenes vidoc like we got from Halo 3.

Am I the only one who loved everything about Reach?
I LOVED the core gameplay, the first person and surveillance cam cutscenes, the weapons, the more realistic look...just everything
If it had scarab fights and some threeway battles involving the flood it would've been perfect.
The weight and controls felt so...right. Not as floaty as Halo 2/3.

Please tell me you're not going back to the floaty moon jumps :(

Im just gonna add this, I dont particularly mind the way Reach feels, its smooth quick and responsive.. My main beef is the base player speed and jump height. They are just too low, but for what they are they do feel fairly responsive and nothing like games like killzone.

Im pretty excited to see how Halo 4 handles player movement and physics... It sounds like we may be in for a treat.

After the flood gates open, I really hope 343i give us more of a peak behind the scenes. That's one of the things I always loved about Bungie, they were secretive about their games, but at the same time open with their development.

Edit:

I also loved the way Reach felt, but the same could be said for any Halo game. So it's win win for me.

I would hope you're the only one who loved everything about Reach. :X The awful bloom mechanics, the replaced power-ups with loadouts that had AAs that each broke the game in their own way (sans Hologram), the ugly desaturated look with that grain filter over everything, maps that were taken from the campaign space making everything feel the same. And let's not forget Forge World with its frame rate issues and maps of gray blocks everywhere.

No, I hope the moment 4 hits that it takes little to no inspiration from Reach and that it gets forgotten. Bungie's swan song is ODST, Reach was just a mess.

There's a lot I liked about Reach. The core gunplay and feedback loops work particularly well in Campaign/Firefight contexts, where I think it's mostly excellent. But problems with the way player movement, balance and weapon mechanics (extended scopes, bloom, vehicle health models etc.) work in MP are significant problems.

I loved Reach, too, and consider it the best in the series, excluding Combat Evolved.

I like Reach.

But I consider Bungie did it with a "work for hire" mindset, and it missed some spots whereas it could have touched all the high notes.

Reach is a good game but at the same time it is a bad Halo game.

I think the fact many longtime core Bungie members had already moved on to Destiny and left a lot of lead positions to people who had not been involved with previous Halo games.

Better, more efficient engine, bro. Note they didn't say Reach's models, but Halo 3's. Reach was a notable improvement graphics-wise than Halo 3, iirc the model for the AR in Reach was more detailed than the model for marines in Halo 3.

I mean, check out the difference graphics-wise between Halo 1 and 2, both on the Original Xbox.

Sounds GREAT!

But I kind of hope that the jumping won't be as floaty as 3's... recently went back to it and it felt as if it took me ages to land again. And while airborne it seemed a bit as if I had lost control over my movement.

So... maybe higher, less floaty jumps are the solution?

At any rate, I cannot wait for any new info. Anything!

i really felt that odst was bungies halo swan song. There was so much more originality to it then in reach, it expanded on the universe, and the story felt a lot more relevent.
