Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn - Part 4 [Available To Watch]

I'm getting Halo 4 and all, but hamfisted crap with no awareness of how cheesy, boring, generic and silly it is like this video kinda reminds me why I lost interest in the series 5 or so years ago.

It's clear that a good amount of time, effort and money went into this thing, but I'm struggling to find myself to care. The over melodramatic line readings and goofy sets of armor makes it difficult to get lost in the universe.

It wasn't bad, it's just not that engaging. And this is coming from a massive Halo fan.

This isnt Cod so you cannot expect "instant gratification". It was meant to start out slow by introducing the characters. It will get better as it goes along.

Fyi I wasnt calling you a CoD fan. It was just an example.

I'm not sure where people's expectations were about this considering its a web series about a video game. It was never going to be The Magnificent Ambersons.

Well, I guess it's pretty good for a commercial...
But I don't really like the atmosphere of the Halo universe. It always reminds me of the fascist military society of Starship Troopers. They beat the Covenant and the Flood and go back to fight Insurrectionists and negotiation is - of course - not an option.

Meh. Armor looks goofy as hell, everything else looked decent, but I can't help but wish the time, effort, and money put into this live action series had been put into making the actual game even better. Maybe I'll start to care about the characters more after the next episode.

Lasky is the dude that's yelling at chief in that gif people love to post all the time, right? Or is he the younger looking one with the shoulder piece?

He is the younger. The yelling guy is Del Rio or something.

No, but if you buy the LE of Halo 4 it comes with a digital version presented as a single film, with some slightly different scenes and editing to accommodate that format. Also these episodes are all streaming on Machinima Prime and HaloWaypoint.
Please tell me the LE version will be available as a download. The streaming Reach commentary was really unpractical.

Pretty damn good for a web series with 20 min episodes, maybe they could have got some better actors in a few cases though.

This was excellent. The wind generators from Reach were a nice touch. Armors, vehicles, sets, all look great. My only complaint would be of Corbulo hold an AR - I'd prefer to see him with a sword or spear.

Cannot wait for the next episode.

I like it. Will be good to see it all in one long section but week by week episodes is still fine by me.

It was surprisingly really, really good. A few moments made me shake my head, but that was mostly due to nerd chills.

So, will characters like Lasky and Kat be allied AI in Halo 4? That'd be cool.

The first episode was decent, it feels a little detached from the Halo universe but I'm sure that can change over the course of the show.

Awful, as I expected from the trailers.

Just because it's about Halo doesn't excuse the awful performances and stale script.

I liked it. Seems to get the point across well, although you can tell it doesn't have a huge budget.

Will watch all of it though and make a better opinion then.

I really loved the intro. I hope we get more of old/H4 Lasky at some point, where it ties more directly into 4. I love the Infinity bridge aesthetic from that scene.

The rest was a bit more mixed (specifically a couple of clunky lines), but it seems overall really solid as long as expectations are kept in check that it's not a big budget movie. The guy playing Lasky seems like a great fit for the role.

Much better than expected. My hubby Zeal says y'all did an awesome job, Frank.

Was that Cortana's voice asking for help onboard the Infinity? Sounded like her but more....serious.

The production values were higher than I expected for a web series and it sold the Halo look well IMO.

I'm still not sure on the character yet though, will have to see how it develops.

Yeah, that's the mindset I'm approaching it with. This isn't going to be a masterpiece, but as a piece of extended fiction and as a teaser leading up to Halo 4, I think it measures up well.

I made it really clear that I did not like the trailer and it left me with little faith about how the series would turn out. I pointed out numerous things to back up my claims of why it looked cheap, and many of those things seemed they would not be possible to be fixed. Yet...

I loved this. Its not perfect, but I am seriously, seriously impressed and really do not want to wait til next week to see episode 2. Major props to everyone on this project, I really am excited to see the rest. I am definitely going to write a full review on this since I invested so much time in showing why I thought it would not work and was wrong.

PS- OP should PM a mod and have Live Action added to the title.

Those actors did not carry themselves like marines. They just seemed like geeky college students.

That would be because they basically are geeky college students. Geeky college students that are being groomed to be the future leaders of the UNSC.

Im not saying the acting was grade A, but I really bought the characters as who they are. They aren't being trained to be grunts, they are being trained to be leaders and they are also supposed to be young from what I gather. Maybe 16-18?

Also, does the UNSC draft? I honestly do not remember if that has ever been mentioned.

Love what I'm seeing here. The lines from the trailer seem far more natural when put in context, and armor and weaponry doesn't look nearly as plasticky as those first videos.

Its so damn cool that we get one of these every Friday until launch - will help to ease the wait.

So close now.

Love that ODST tattoo too btw. Nice touch.

Okay so this is how much of what is written on the bed ceiling I uncovered:

From Earth. For Earth. Honor, Valor, Allegiance, Excellence. From Earth. For Earth. Today, Tomorrow, Forever. Together we rise, together we prevail. Forward Unto Dawn. From Earth. For Earth. Through ?, Victory, through, ?

And the rest is unknown to me.

Anyone have the full thing?

From the trailer I really wasn't expecting much but this was surprising decent. Sure the script was mediocre, that acting a little hammy, and obviously made on a low budget (compared to a big movie) BUT it was still enjoyable enough and better than any other 'live action' computer game based movies or web series.

The marines armor does look a little comical - is this just cadets armor? Im hoping the real marines will have better looking armor.

The real test will be when the Spartans show up - really hope they nail the look of them or the series will be a failure. I'm guessing the Covies will be all cgi?

^ Yup, its just Cadet armor, but I agree its a little goofy looking. we got a small glimpse of the actual marine armor and it looks a lot better.
