So far only matchmaking for firefight has been confirmed or its been confirmed that firefight will only be matchmaking?

I was seriously excited about this, but if I can't play with just my friends, I don't have any intention of playing it. If this is just about the beta, then it doesn't matter, but if the final product it matchmaking only, boy would that be a letdown.

Sure, why not? Doesn't sound anything like the classic ODST iteration of Firefight I really want, but whatever...anything to use up that massive pile of Warzone items collecting dust. If I hate it, I'm sure I can always transition over to the Gears4 beta and wash away the disappointment there.

I only do it to refill on XP boosters for Arena...which is the only way I play Halo 5 as WZ is just not enjoyable to me as is.

Yeah, I agree. But I cash in on the Warzone items for a chance to get cosmetic and assassination items via req packs.

The new warzone map is pretty good. I think it's one of the better ones so far. Hopefully FF play as well on it.

You sure you are not letting your own cloudy judgement paint a picture depicting what you think he likes and not likes?

The main difference is that this isn't Firefight, it's Warzone Firefight, and it's heavily focused on the former. This isn't an outlast/onslaught mode by all accounts so much as a time attack mode. This makes sense since Firefight with Matchmaking sucked in Reach, although if you were a huge fan of ODST's Firefight I can see it not scratching the same itch.
