Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Different starting weapons per week. Next week is BR starts, week three is DMR starts.

Thought they were about to make a terrible decision right when my friends and I were starting to fall in love with Halo MP again.
 
Played a bit of this last night and don't like it at all. This doesn't feel like Halo. It's so fucking frustrating, and all I really want to do is go back to Halo 4 or play a shooter on my PC.

I still have high hopes for the campaign though.

Thought that at first.

But after playing for about 10+ hours, I absolutely love it.

There is a learning curve with all the new mechanics, but once you know how to utilize everything, it feels like Halo.

Also, I agree with you on Halo 4. The game doesn't deserve all the hate it gets. It's amazing.
 
Got my first killing frenzy earlier. Well kind of - it wasn't exactly legit.

Basically, I got a killing spree, then went head to head with another player. We traded shots, I killed him and he killed me. Respawned, got another 4 straight kills and got a killing frenzy.

Guess it counted that guy as a 6th kill, but didn't register my death for some reason.

So, a sort of, but not really, Killing Frenzy :p
 
Honestly, the disappointment/vitriol towards Halo 4 here is fucking surprising to me. Of all the Halo games, I'd say it's the best in every regard.

But I only really play big team, so maybe Halo 5 can deliver on that front.

No. It had flinch, random power weapon drops, plasma pistol starts in Big Team Battle (ruins vehicles), mostly bad maps and a bad CTF mode.

Not knowing what power weapons the enemy has is a massive flaw. How anyone could call it the best in every regard blows my mind. Were you into team slayer much in the other games?
 
Are grenades weaker than usual in this game? I LOVE the weapon balance so far, but grenades and melee feel less useful than usual.
 
Ranks need tweaked, really is upsetting when you got like 21-11 and lose because one dude didn't start playing until halfway through the game... Then you lose like 16 rank points.

Yeah it's annoying. Especially losing a close game against supposedly higher ranked players and losing 85 points in rank. Crazy. Most I ever get in a win is 25 points, yet when I lose it is a significant amount often. I am positive that they will change a ton by launch.
 
Implying that I'm tired of them and want something new and refreshing. If I wanted to play BR starts I would play MCC.

I'd rather just have the option to choose if people aren't happy either way. I prefer AR starts because I don't want Halo 5 to become the BR only game like past Halo's but apparently people still want that. I'd prefer they go to MCC but they won't be happy with that either.

I totally agree, but I say this as a campaign only guy. It's definitely the best of them

It really doesn't matter. BRs are littered everywhere, so every successful player I've encountered ditch the crappy pistol immediately and grab a BR. For me, it's been the difference between getting a five kill streak or one to one trade offs.
 
Melee a little iffy for anyone?

Can't tell how much damage is needed for a melee kill either
 
Not rank down as much. I know it's a team game, but there has to be some account for randoms. Maybe the game can see if someone is AFK or if it is 3 on 4 and then do rank points accordingly.
That's a fair point. It'll be interesting to see how much randomness remains as we progress through the beta. The ranking really needs to be addressed officially. I would love to know how it is accomplished and what's weighted and what's not.
 
i really like AR starts and wouldn't mind them in the final release regardless of game type.

maybe on big open maps BR starts would be better, but i find AR start good in the two beta maps.
 
Have actually been having a lot of fun with this game, my opinion has changed quite drastically. There is one thing that this beta has made very clear though. Sprint is integral in the game however still remains a get out of jail free card. The amount of times I'm able to get out of a bad situation by sprinting tactfully towards my team is not right - the opposite has happened to me as well where I've had the opponent clearly beat. It creates too many cat and mouse situations and something needs to change. Perhaps you cannot sprint when shields are depleted?
 
Sorry but how you do that thruster melee attack(not that from air)? I was killed with it couple times but I really don't have idea how you do it.

Just remove it already. Even if you couldn't use it while shields are depleted (or even slightly damage) the maps would still play like hot garbage and be about twice as big as they should ever be.
 
one new feature I've found being underutilized by most, and i honestly just discovered today, is the jump and zoom function.

allows you to float in the air and shoot your opponent from a height. pretty useful if you can't get access to a shot.

It's a great way to get yourself killed by any semi competent player...
 
Getting awful connection lately as well. Taking a whole clip of AR to kill someone. Australians have it rough at the moment.
 
So are there any tricks to get matchmaking to work when you're in a party? It's constantly either putting only one of us in a game or just being overall wonky when trying to party up.
