Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

That was just my reaction from the first match.

I can agree, it's really not CoD...but it's not Halo either.

I'm starting to enjoy it for sure.

I'm also playing with the Doom Alpha today, which I can't really say much about other than I'm having way more fun with that. It feels incredible to play. Halo 5 is growing on me, though.

Still, I recognize that, when it comes to shooters, classic Halo is the only console shooter I've ever been decent at. I don't have time to practice these days and I'm probably too old to play well against most people now. Halo 5 is very well made, I can see that, but I feel bad knowing that I'll never be able to really play that well.

I think my biggest issue is an inability to play with a high sensitivity on a gamepad. Using a mouse? No problem. With an analog stick, though, I've just never been able to aim all that well. :(

It's more about prediction, baiting, teamwork, weapon control and map knowledge. Sure reactions are a factor but with online latency the differences are minute for your specific reaction time.

I'm 39 and happily go toe to toe at an individual level. Real teamwork and map control is where you get stomped.

I play on sensitivity 2 for Halo, even in the beta I was still rocking my play style just fine. Give it some practice time to learn the new mechanics and maps plus migrate from mouse to thumbsticks.

Wouldn't it be nice if they just opened the game early and let us enjoy it over the weekend?

It would be awesome, but I doubt they'll do that. They've got that massive launch evening event planned, I'm sure they want to maximize coverage of that event - having people watching and waiting in anticipation, rather than already playing and ignoring the event.

Did you play the beta?

The first thing I had to learn was that there is barely any aim assist. It felt weird and after getting over that hump it pretty much felt like Halo.

Totally, just, you know, wishful thinking.

I would never have thought in a million years that the multiplayer in a modern Doom game would be better than a Halo game's multiplayer, lol. What strange times we live in.

the hardest part about playing Halo 5 is playing it on the terrible XBO controller. the sticks feel small and imprecise, and bumpers are just awkward (yes, i'm pressing them "properly" lol)

i need to find me a 3rd party one, or I'll cop for the Elite if it feels better.

If Gamestop is still running that controller trade in off, I'd consider snagging a Lunar White. It doesn't fix the "small sticks" problem (which is a new one to me), but the bumpers are sublime.

i want to, but no gamestops anywhere close to me >.>

sucks because i have two controllers to trade in.

I don't think anyone can really say the XBO controller is terrible. You might not like aspects of it, but "terrible"? No

the aspects i "don't like" are among the primary functions in a shooter, which therefore renders the whole thing "terrible".

using it has always felt like i was losing precision, but at least it looks nice!

I mean, for Zoba, it's terrible. I consider the ps4 controller a piece of junk but that's my own personal opinion on how it feels in my hand. Lots of people love it, however, same as lots of people loving the Xbone controller. Subjective, and the like.

DS4 is crap - especially the build quality - but the sticks are more precise and it's smaller, so there's less reaching for buttons.

And my hands are pretty big. 20 years of piano gives a man some reach.

I stayed up later than I should have watching streams of this. Yep...gonna preload tonight. My first Halo since 2.

why did you skip the last 5 games?

I need me one of those. I just don't understand why it's €15 more expensive than the regular one.

If you get a copy early can you play already? Or do you need to wait for the 9gb patch on tuesday?

You can play campaign. Patch is already out, but you need to be whitelisted to actually play multiplayer.

Kind of agree with Zoba on the sticks.

But on the flipside, I'm really use to them now.

i hope it doesn't take me too long to get used to them. Been butting heads with it since MCC; it's annoying when the controller feels like it's fighting against me .

i got used to the 360 pad, and when i went back to that after using the XBO controller...

Not sure if racist.

Bahahhahahah... I know that feel.

How the hell did I think that was normal then?

Is the headshot hitbox bigger in halo 5? i'm seeing snipes and magnum shots look like they are body shots but getting a headshot kill.

Watching summit's stream right now. Tashi getting worked by Diesel. Lol

Who is that guy?

Holy shit did he finally get a code? Been watching him all week, dudes been so down he never got one.

Hope he had fun, didn't realise how much he liked Halo. He read the entire ranking system blog out on stream the other day, he said it sounded great the only thing he didn't like was the month long seasons. Someone then told him about the elite controllers because he hadn't heard of them, and he immediately bought two heh.

yea....

terrible is hyperbolic obviously because both controllers are a big step up from last gen.

Only thought the XBO controller wasn't good after playing Destiny on it and comparing that precision to the Dualshock 4. It isn't a subtle difference to me, but I hope it becomes a minor annoyance over time. Don't want to be bitching about dead zones a year from now.

could just be delay, but wouldn't surprise me given the low aim assist

It's interesting that some players now pass up grabbing the BR or DMR because the pistol is so godlike, reminds me of halo 1 all over again.

so glad to see this. BR and DMR have better range and crowd control and will be easier to use; however, your starting weapon gives you the best optimal kill time for defending yourself, as it should.

game's gonna be good.

Good KF run ty, looney, id, hypoetical, and squall! That was my first time being relic olatformer at oryx and it was damn fun. We all came together at the end. Good stuff guys.

When I had a 360 I wasn't really into console FPS games at the time. I was more of a keyboard and mouse guy. Got the Destiny PS4 and I have been having a blast with that and when I got my One I started looking at this.

I hope not.

game balance looks good so far.

nades are powerful, but you can evade them
starting weapons are powerful, but weapons on map give you advantages over them
abilities have good tradeoffs and require aim

still expect a balance patch, but i hope they make minor tweaks and not full TTK nerfs.
