Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

game balance looks good so far.

nades are powerful, but you can evade them
starting weapons are powerful, but weapons on map give you advantages over them
abilities have good tradeoffs and require aim

still expect a balance patch, but i hope they make minor tweaks and not full TTK nerfs.

with their talk of post launch support and adding reqs consistently, etc etc, i honestly am expecting (read: hoping) they are updating the game OFTEN.

like weekly updates would be dope 343
 
Just curious as I haven't really followed the news on this game. Kind of wanted to just jump in and play. Is Warzone being touted as the replacement for BTB?

it's a replacement for Firefight/Spartan Ops/Invasion/Dominion. BTB is still in and will come after launch with its own maps
 
why did you skip the last 5 games?
This will be my first time invested in a halo game since 2 and I would love to explain why even though you didn't ask me

The FPS landscape changed on consoles, in the begining of online multiplayer all I knew was halo 2 and some halo 3 (though for some reason I did not like halo 3 at all....it felt different from 2)

Then cod4 and bad company 2 happened, the beauty of ADS happened and it got to the point where every time I picked up a halo game after that controlling the game felt awkward in my hands. Which I'm still confused about to this day.

When with in range in a modern first person shooter, I always aim from the hip, mostly because it's quicker then aiming down the sight, and that' split second is what you need to survive (yes i am of the mind state of COD is more difficult to be good at than halo because it's that much easier to die)

But at range, I need to hit L2 to ads, 10 years of it in countless fps games besides COD has become the norm and I like it, I know Halo Master Race hates that but....all I can say to them is...sorry man the world moved on

That's why I made my earlier statement, the whole no ADS is a deal breaker to me, I always felt a choice is healthy, make it like wolfenstein where it's purely cosmetic and the accuracy remains the same no matter if you ADS or hip fire

I understand Halo 5 is finally doing that

But the real reason why I'm finally going to put down Destiny is Warzone, it looks like such an amazing game mode, I hope other FPS (destiny) copies it (because end of the day I prefer destiny gun play)
 
Plaza is gorgeous, but I am starting to get a little concerned about how it actually plays. Map's like a sieve, routes everywhere.

mentioned in an earlier post that the key to its balance will be fast and desirable weapon spawns for players to cycle for. otherwise, there will be a lot of running, hiding and cross map shooting.

the verticality is stellar though. we rarely see 4 levels of elevation in maps these days.
 
Better not be nerfs

This kind of stuff excites me for custom games....there are at least 4 modifiers for movement speed without even touching on sprint...awesome stuff

what ADS does in most of those games is slow you down + increase aim assist while you aim. Halo has done the latter to an extent, but never the former.

I like how they implemented ADS, aside from the weapons it looks funky on (DMR).
 
How do you guys feel about the new kill feed? The one that highlights weapon silhouettes, grenades, whether it was a perfect kill or headshot? I actually like it, especially having been playing Destiny for a while. Tucked away in corner, can gain a lot more information etc.

Funny enough, Destiny just recently updated their kill feed to highlight kills. They also added the heavy weapon spawning indicator right after the Halo 5 beta.
 
It's rather unfortunate, but seems like paddles are a must for Halo 5.

Funny though, the 4SK pistol made me super hype to play. Starting with an awesome utility weapon is great!

New forge is definitely crying out for the ability to apply different textures to objects. Being able to select from a palette of different materials like wood, stone, red-bricks, etc. would go a very long way in combating the current sterile plastic surfaces.

the detail is great, it's just the blocks themselves are really lacking personality.

we could definitely use a texture pack somewhere down the line. nothing too detailed, but enough to make the pieces look more believable.

a low zoom, low aim assist utility weapon off spawn is the best thing to happen to Halo. BR starts stagnate movement and make a lot of weapons in the sandbox irrelevant, but AR + Pistol starts where either weapon is weak give too much advantage to people who pick up weapons off the map.

it'll be fine, and if it isn't they can always tweak its range or aim assist further.

With a hitbox big like texas i dont see that low aim assist a good thing. And the pistol already makes the DMR and BR some kind of irrelevant. Why pick this guns up at all?

If the pistol stays at it's current power level it really needs less magnatism, the beta pistol felt great and hearing that it was going to be buffed was nice, but it's too easy to use IMO everyone is using it over map pickups unless it's sniper or rockets.

Just like Halo CE - nothing wrong with that. Everyone can defend themselves right from spawn.

Not true...br and dmr are still much more powerful and easier to pull off shots

Also the ar has been turned down in range since the beta

It is the best starting weapons halo has ever had by a lot

for maybe the first time in Halo history, you start with two weapons off the bat that don't make you feel like weak trash. And at the same time, the weapons the map are still generally better, whether its the Needler's homing destruction, or the DMR's 3x scope, or the BR's 4SK 3-shot bursts, or the rapid fire of the Carbine, or the shield-melting of the SAW, etc. Finally, a Halo game where every weapon is viable.

As an AR noob: yes we do. Anything's better than spawning without a weapon you can comfortably use at all, which is what BR/Pistol starts would be. New ranking system puts similarly skilled players together, so those that can't aim keep using the AR, as they learn to aim, begin using the pistol in more and more cases. BR starts impose a minimum skill level to enjoy the game.

bullet mag/hitboxes can definitely come down. just don't want them to touch TTK.

Have seen anyone use it but there is a theater tab along with arena, warzone and custom...so its definitely there for multiplayer

Confirmed gone for campaign (kind of sucks but it doesn't make sense to make a feature for such a small group of people)

Oh no i completely agree! I was just poking fun at the select group of those who don't like the precision weapons and automatically stick with the AR. I too think just about every weapon is viable in different circumstances.
 
Found a local shop breaking street date, is it safe to play online already? I'm in Europe if that matters. I seem to remember reading about people getting banned for playing games early on 360, is that still a thing?

yes and i'm fine with that, I would always use the pistol in Reach because it was enjoyable and rather good there too but seeing people pistol battle across the entire map seems a little too good, the pistol just needs a touch of change to bring it down a tiny bit.
 
important thing to note about BR vs Pistol

With the BR, you can thrust immediately after firing and then fire again without losing any time between shots. So you have more mobility when using the BR to lands its optimal kill time.

The pistol fires faster, so if you use thruster with it, you're losing DPS by missing an opportunity to shoot. So in a Pistol vs BR situation, the BR user still has advantages.

The difference then of course is that the Pistol can miss 2 shots and still beat the BR if the BR misses once.

Holy shit. Amazing.

Yup. AR only makes sense if you have the element of surprise. Otherwise it's pistol all day long.

I've seen a few streams where I think switching to the AR (or another automatic) would've been the right call; if you keep whiffing shots in a close range firefight, it's time to switch to the hose.
