Halo Anniversary |OT| It All Comes Full Circle

Brag post.

Iv never had any problem with anything Halo related on Legendary other than Tartarus on H2.

H3 is easy mod, Reach wasnt much harder. CE:A is the most fun on legendary thanks to the large landscapes and multiple ways to approach most battles but it wasnt exceptionally hard

You trying to say you didn't struggle with Cairo Station on Legendary?

I wish. Plasma pistol, Plasma rifle, needler, possibly SMG are all I can get my hands on. Did not have the foresight to lug the empty sniper rifle along...

Overshield I did find.

Hunters are the precise reason I never drop the pistol. They're such bastards without it.

Post Christmas and i'm back to playing through the campaign. I'm dying, often :O. Playing on heroic difficulty, but I don't remember it being this hard. I'm currently going through Assault on the control room and i'm getting seriously destroyed over and over again on the ice bridge over the control room valley. I'm loving it, i just want to know i'm not crazy and this game is harder than i remember.

Is it weird to be really disappointed that the UI for this is so unlike the previous 360 Halos? I was really looking forward to them sprucing up the menu screens and making it look more epic. This is not the Halo Epicness I have grown accustomed to.

In terms of the main menu for level selection and options and stuff? I guess it would've been nice to use some concept art backgrounds like Reach does, but I get the sense 343 wanted to keep the classic title screen with the Halo ring in the background, and really, when you get down to it, the game doesn't really have many of the features a UI like Reach's is built around. There aren't nearly as many customization options as have been added over the years, there's no theater menu, no customizable character, and the entirety of the multiplayer aspect of the game is in Reach's engine, I don't think there's a whole lot to add. So the UI is definitely not as full as in more recent games, but Id don't think it can be with the limited set of features available. Goes to show how much the series has added in 10 years.

Unfortunate since there is sniper ammo spread throughout the entirety of the level. Well, just do as I said, bait and dodge the charge attack. It's easily telegraphed and with a little practice you can sidestep Hunters effortlessly. Just hit them with anything you have in the back.

Thanks - with sidestep, do you mean jumping sideways? Seems the gravity is pretty low in the hangar so it's a bit floaty. I will definitely never let go of the pistol again!

They'll charge at you trying to swipe you with their shield arm. Just sidestep to the other direction and let it pass, then put a bullet in its exposed back.

Dead worms for everyone!

I dislike how they've slightly changed this in the newer halos.

Edit: OK I'm kidding. I don't dislike it, but hunter encounters were more entertaining in CE

I guess I just mean the general screen design. Big epic image on most of the screen, tiny classy "Start Campaign/Multiplayer" on the bottom.

Because you could effortlessly bully them? :p

I can't stand how sensitive the controls in the menus are. I have to use the D-pad most of the time to actually get the option I want to chose.
Wow, I always use the D-Pad for menus, regardless of the game.

I didn't even consider that others wouldn't, actually... Weird.

Yes, especially when you have an overused ODST controller that sticks when you move the joystick down.

I never actually touched the D-Pad for menus. Hah! Good idea.

Just got this game as I've been going through a lot of games since I only just got a 360.

Playing for the very first time on legendary mode and having a blast.
I'm only halfway through Truth and Reconciliation and had a couple of problems it the previous level, especially with the 2 dropships letting two dozen enemies lose on me at once!
But besides that part, I'm loving it.
Played through CE when it originally launched, but hadn't played much of Halo 2 and nothing of the sequels.

Until getting my 360 a couple of weeks ago.
Started playing Reach MP and really enjoying it a lot as well.
Can't wait to try out these new maps online. :)

One thing that really stood out is how incredible the music is at times.

I miss the Halo 1 hunters. They were tough for people who didn't know how to kill 'em right. I had friends who played Halo often but still had no idea you could one-shot them.

I don't dislike the ones from later games, either, but yeah, I prefer the CE ones.

Yeah, miss-spelling. But the point remains.

Doesn't show me any "buy" option. Also those entries don't exist on the English Amazon site.
Amazon.com is the English Amazon too. :p But I think you meant Amazon.co.uk? Yep. Halo: Glasslands and Halo: Primordium are surprisingly not available at amazon.co.uk.

It wasn't until T&R that my brother and I finally found our co-op groove again. Up to that point it was pretty rough on Legendary. It's kinda sad too because we beat both Reach and ODST in the last six months on Legendary so we have no excuse for being so rusty.

I'm digging the new visuals, but I wish they had just dropped the whole "old engine" as I get a nasty feeling that's the cause of some of the hiccups and the cutscenes look so rough going from that framework (in terms of camera movements and animations).

Am I crazy or is HALO CE significantly more difficult than the other games? I'm playing on normal and it feels like playing REACH on Heroic.

It's now necessarily more difficult but different. Of course, the elites are much more evil and make many encounters more challenging, but they are rather easily solvable, at least if you resort to plasma pistol. On the other hand the enemies have less explosive weapons (no concussion rifles, for example).

I was rather disappointed by the co-op and how well it performs. The other player seems to always have a distinct latency. Some levels also have more slowdown in co-op, or at least that how it felt. We had to switch to the old graphics in Two Betrayls to get past some of the rooms.

Overall 343i/Saber Int. did a great job with the cutscene IMO. Yeah some look very stiffy(e.g. PoA Opening sequence) but my favorite cutscenes are looking marvelous.

I was thinking the first time too. But at the end it is just that your memories are rusty. If you know that the Plasma Pistol is better than every other weapon and carry one always with you, the game is really easy. (Yep. I was surprised how easy it is to take out Elites with the Plasma pistol)

It's funny, but I thought it was leagues easier. Probably only died half a dozen times on Heroic. Legendary isn't all that bad either, but some of the checkpoints suck.

Then I just suck, because i'm getting my ass kicked on the bridge battles in Assault on the Control room.

This game is difficult and easy at the same time. Once you know how to deal with the situation aka, plasma pistol and pistol; the game is super easy. The key to fighting all enemies on Legendary is to NOT attempt mid range or close range battles, keep your enemies at bay, plasma pistol them, watch them rage and then pop their heads.

No jumping, just side-step as soon as they start their swing, turn to face the exposed orange spot on their back and go to town on it. The pistol isn't available on T&R (and yes, never let go of it on other levels, except maybe for on The Library) and you have no sniper ammo left so just hit it with everything you've got.

FU** the Speed Reader and That Just Happened! There is always a Carrier form that explode and it triggers unseen grenades that kills me. ARGH! ALWAYS!

You just shot yourself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about The Library(I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. When I play The Library, I roll with Pistol and Shotgun which always ends in flood rape.

Barrow, publicly apologize and edit your post or you can kiss your Halo Honor goodbye.

Lol.

But real talk, I find shotgun and plasma rifle more practical on The Library. Range on the shotty is ridiculous and the plasma rifle is great for taking out infection forms without being too inaccurate at range. Gets me through The Library on Legendary just fine.

I thought the Hunters largely got better as the series went on, peaking with the ODST ones. The fact that they can't outrun you and can be one-shot makes them a bit of a joke, rather than the heavies I always thought they were meant to be.

Yeah, you're right, that's pretty effective. I was just saying I roll with shotgun/pistol. Pistol might not sound good against the flood but it does a great job. I only switch it for the rocket launcher for half a floor and switch back right after that.

ODST's Hunters were perfect. That first encounter with them as Buck is one of my most memorable moments in gaming. It was nice having both blue and gold hunters with different weapons, too.

I'd agree that they got better. ODST and Reach Hunters are great. Reach legendary hunters are extremely difficult.

I like Halo 1's Hunter's because you can just circle strafe dance and melee them to death. Fun times!

I thought Reach Hunters were pretty good, perhaps the best in the series since I had no strong feelings over the ones from 2, 3, or ODST's versions.

CE's Elites are king of the crop. Nothing else in the series has touched them, although 2's Elites early on were still enjoyable. Dealt with many circumstances of flanking and tricks by them near the Zanzibar hotel in Outskirts. Fun times.

I couldn't stand the hunters in Halo 3 or Halo: Reach. I thought they were perfectly balanced in Halo 1. Sure they were easier to take down, but on the other hand there were many more hunters in CE's campaign than in any of the subsequent games.

Finished this game 2 days ago. Never played the original CE.
Have to say that every level after Silent Cartographer was shit, even Assault on the Control Room. With Library being the purest form of creamy shit.
It is pretty similar to Crysis in that regard.

Finished! Now to go clean up some of the easier achievements. The game was just as good as I remember it. All of the new spit and polish was awesome and I really want a redone Halo 2 now.

Thanks to 343, Saber, and Certain Affinity. You guys brought me back home in a good way.

ODST's Hunters were perfect. That first encounter with them as Buck is one of my most memorable moments in gaming. It was nice having both blue and gold hunters with different weapons, too.
High-Five. I'll never forget that. The size difference made me feel kinda hesitant of hose dude again.

I never liked Reach's Hunters because you can't out maneuver them in close quarters.

That's the problem I have with them. Their swing is just weird. It looks like you'll be able to do the Halo 1 dodge under their arm and you just end up getting killed.
