Halo Forge coming to Windows 10 later this year

lol, no resources. If Microsoft wanted it they would have 'found' the resources and handed the job to another studio if 343i were busy. Although i'm not sure when will 343i will be less busy to do that that now after Halo 5 has shipped and before they go knee-deep with Halo 6.

Taking into consideration Spencer's previous remarks they don't seem as interested in porting already-released Halo games so we'll probably see Halo 6 and on-wards on PC. But i suspect not having the series on PC is going to hurt potential sales from players who don't want to jump in the middle of the second trilogy. But with the UWP thing it doesn't seem like maximizing success of an individual game is their first priority.

I'm sure there are probably a lot fewer resources available after the bath they just took with Fable Legends.

Halo MCC 2 after halo 6 on PC and console.

I'd be in

But why is it so hard to get a Microsoft franchise onto a Microsoft platform?

Killer Instinct
Gears of War
Forza
Ori
Quantum Break
Halo Wars 2
Sea of Theives

Etc...

It seems like MS franchises are getting announced for PC all the time these days. This companion app for the Xbox game doesn't change that fact.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
been out for a few days - HOLY SHIT. this is honestly huge news. this is something the halo community has been asking for for ages and honestly i never thought would come to pass (unless the game released on pc). so fucking stoked. also, this bodes well for further support and forge implementation.

Right, so what's the hangup with Halo?

Gears, too, now that you mention it. Right now it seems like the only reason the Ultimate Edition made it to the PC was to make amends for ruining the first one with Games for Windows Live, then never updating it. There's no reason 4 shouldn't make its way to PC, too.

Great news!! Everyone in the Halo 5 community will benefit from this. Wish there was less whining about a port in this thread.

Forge on PC, Yay I guess. No idea why Microsoft hasn't bothered to port the MCC over yet plus 5 but that's what most of us are waiting for.
if they port MCC, they'll have no excuse not to fix it and that will take a good amount of time...

I feel like the 'hold up' has been thouroughly explained in this thread already.

When halo 5 began development their was no push to bring Xbox games to PC. So it was developed solely to target Xbox one. MCC having began development BEFORE halo 5 naturally has the same issue.

The work requires to bring these two experience apparently doesn't past the cost/benefit test this long after launch.

We see what happens when the decision to make PC ports comes late in the dev cycle (Quantum Break). It's better to take the time to do it right (Killer Instict), or get your feet wet with smaller snippets (Forza Apex, Forge-Halo 5) that pave the way for future releases, or build the titles to be multiplat from the start (Halo Wars 2, Sea of Thieves).

It would if they would actually release their games on Steam like they have done before.....

Wait, I thought Gears 4 was coming to PC? Is it not? Where did I hear that then?

NAh, they'd probably still ignore it.

It hasnt been announced for PC. People just assumed so because GoW:UE came to PC.

There's a ton of speculation that it will be announced for PC, based on MS' recent behavior.

It's not just speculation, Rod Fergusson replied "Possibly" when asked by Game Informer.
And Aaron Greenberg referred to it as a console exclusive in an interview.

Anyway, from the official Q&A:

Windows 10 remains an important focus for the Halo franchise moving forward.

I guess we can hope to get Halo 6.

People are not complaining it's free, but rather that they got 4k and full mouse and keyboard support for making and testing forge maps on PC yet refuse to actually release the game itself.

You can make a map and play custom multi player games in it on PC with your live friends list.

Obviously there is full PC support for the multi player part in some degree here.

I get both points. I'd prefer to play halo properly on a PC instead of having to wave my sticks around to shoot.

let's see going forward what really happens. HW2 seems to be a start.

The Xbox One needs to have it's own games to you know. Especially bigger games that move consoles to an extent like Halo 5,

Well, last I checked, 343i doesn't work for you... So you can't complain when they aren't making what you want.

WTF, he specifically asked what I want. Context counts.

I'm complaining about the "no plans" for older Halo titles on PC because, uh, they're the ones in charge of those games.

Besides, when the only new Halo (real Halo, not RTS Halo) related thing they've put on PC in years not for Russia to play is a companion app for Xbox One owners to use, I don't think anything more needs to be said.

I should be more clear. The speculation is certainly warranted, but until theirs an announcement, it's still speculation.

i got my fingers crossed

It might also be easier for them to play the game on the PC. It's a little hypocritical for MS to play up how the XBox is becoming a unified, hardware agnostic platform and then still hold back on porting their flagship titles.

While I'm sure Halo 5 (and MCC) will eventually come, it makes sense for they only to start supporting PC in upcoming titles, assuming they don't want to outsource the ports and most of the team is already moved to the next title.

On the other hand Ms touts the uwp as easy to bring software released on other platforms, and if it's true it wouldn't require many time or manpower (But that's kinda why I think evntually we will see big titles coming to Pc as well), we should hear a lot more of it at E3

I'd personally love to see older Halos on PC (3, ODST, Reach and 4, even 5) one day, but there are no plans (or resources) at this time.

Same. I'd love to see the older titles on PC, particularily Reach as I feel it has so much to gain from a proper AA implementation and greater AF/shadow quality. I still consider Reach to be among the top 5 technical accomplishments of last gen alongside UC3/TLOU/GTA5/Crysis3.

Will there be a central new hub to share forge creations from PC to XB1 users and is custom textures still on the agenda?

Hell, I'll be fine with them porting Halo 1/2 Anniversaries and making Halo 3 Anniversary an XBO/PC launch. These games have been criminally absent from PC digital distribution and with Halo 2 being on PC already it makes no sense to not have Halo 3 here.

My interest in H4 and H5 is pretty much non-existent.
