Halo: MCC Multiplayer "1th" patch "fix" live!

Why do I keep seeing people speak for a unified consensus that stuff is broken still when that is clearly not the case as people are posting good success post patch?

I tried for about 30 mins...no matches played. Now I cant even party chat with my friend. How has online gotten worse over
10 years?

Hope this is a lesson to 343 industries and Microsoft, stop outsourcing Halo for goodness sake. Let 343 do it period, 343 might make questionable design decisions, but they very talented and make mostly polished games. Don't outsource Forge or maps to Certain Affinity again, that is all I ask. Also no more outsourcing games to Ruffian or Saber Interactive for goodness sake, do it in house.

Certain Affinity made the Reach and H4 map packs and they worked. It's not their fault this is still a mess.

The closing lines of my review...which would have been much more harsh had I written it after this patch.

So I have had a problem deciding what to score this game. I've enjoyed the single player and I've completed four extremely well-made campaigns. I have enjoyed the collection, but I've also been frustrated by it. The general lack of polish, the infamous 343 save bug is present (my save file disappeared and I lost hours of progress on a Legendary run), and the completely broken multiplayer have all been hard to swallow. I think Halo fans deserve better. I think Halo deserves better. I know that a pre-Black Friday release was important for Microsoft and 343, but I would feel so much better about this game if it had been given proper respect and delayed until December into 2015. When a company's most important IP is given a rushed treatment to make a deadline, it feels a bit like a slap in the face.

Yes, the game will improve over time, but right now it's not up to par with what a Halo release should be. I hope that Halo 5 is handled with a bit more reverence.

My friend just ran out and bought an XB1 an couple hours ago for this game. He was on Skype before he left, hearing about a patch and figured now was a good time.

He's not answering my texts.

I have played much more matches tonight then I have played in general before the patch. A progress in that regard, I have to say.

But some matches still took quite long. And in like a total of 6-7 manches I also had 5-6 problems with "downloading recent data" or loading screen freezes or result boards screen freezes, all of them forced me to quit the game. So things are still pretty damn bad, and a lot worse then I was expecting.

I thought tonight I would be finally able to play a solid Halo collection MP. I was wrong.

IDK if the patch fixed anything, but I played a few minutes and I can say it most definetly broke something.

In the Halo CE campaign, medals don't show up anymore (yes, I checked and the option is still activated) Also, killing a banshee doesn't give you points anymore, for some reason...

Oh, and it's been a week and my achievement for beating Halo (the level) over the par score still hasn't unlocked (it still says Done, Unlocking...) It should also unlock the achievement for beating every Halo CE over the par score (it even says 10/10 in my career, but still no achievement)

Seriously 343, what are you doing?

OH NO

get in your car right now and save him before it's too late.

I do feel bad for people who bought XB1s for this release. That must've been a pretty big let down. I'm a huge Halo nerd and I'll be around whenever the game is working no matter how long it takes, so I'm just mildly annoyed / disappointed, personally.

But Certain Affinity made H2A multiplayer and it's maybe the best part of MCC
I am not say Certain Affinity is completely incompetent, I think they great in fact, with a bunch of great people. What I am saying is that when the game is made by different people it is problematic, certain parts are not up to standard, certain parts are not as functional and working in relation to the rest. As you can see the rest of package is not up to standard to Certain Affinity's 'work' though and I don't think in terms of polish is up there with Certain Affinity. That is all I am saying. In house you have more control. Hopefully Halo 5 is done by 343 industries, just so we get the same level of polish across the board, which it sounds like it will be.

Jeez. I was wondering if something was going on, cause we had a bunch of 'exchanges' for defective copies of this game in the last few days. People saying the multiplayer didn't work or that they couldn't complete the campaigns. Enough times that my manager asked me (I'm typically the one with the most knowledge of the releases ((Driveclub wasn't a big deal in terms of launch numbers for us, but we saw some returns as a result. I was able to authorize them as returns because I verified the product was effectively broken initially))) if something was going on with 'the halo games'.

Already dreading the next wave of returns... At least since I'll know about this, I can give my manager a heads up so he can just handwave it for the day. It's easier than trying to educate customers on *why* the product is broken. Just give them the store credit. Anyway, I'm really sorry to hear how frustrating this is guys. I have a few diehard Halo fans, and they're seething too. Ugh.

Wow, you're actually seeing returns in shop? That probably means the issue is much more widespread than it even seems.

I hope 343 gets this fixed. Whenever I do get an Xbox One when the ID@Xbox Parity clause is fixed, I want to be able to play classic Halo multiplayer. It's one of my top things on my list to do on XBO!

The closing lines of my review...which would have been much more harsh had I written it after this patch.

My hope for Halo 5 is nonexistent. This studio is proving to be incredibly inept. It's like they assembled a bunch of people that are moderately attractive for game developers, can speak well and showed enthusiasm for the Halo franchise, and then partnered them with Bungie leftovers. The end result of this creative pairing might just be the death of a storied franchise if they cannot pull out of this tailspin.

Watch some of those Halo 5 dev videos on YouTube; frat boys and people in way over their heads.

Well clearly it isn't 100% fixed to the point where everyone is experiencing the same thing. Go check over in the other Halo thread to see how many people are not having much success with this patch.

The key is to Hard Reset (from reddit): If anyones stuck on "Downloading Latest Data" do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Normal reset didn't fix it, but a hard reset did.

It's super widespread, almost everytime I get into a game some poor fool is yelling "FInally my first game!" Little do they know they aren't quite out of the woods yet at the map selection screen. They need to fix this shit, but in the mean time, FH2.

This might just be the most fucked up high profile game ever released. It's stunning.

Seriously did this patch fix ANTHING?

Very little to nothing for a lot. A little bit for some.

I look forward to being let down by the 2th 3th and 4rd patches also.

fuck this and fuck the halo beta!
trading this in for credits whilst the going's still hot.

how did 343 think they could get away with this?

Yup things arent fixed at all. Many things are worse now that I've encountered.

Tried to get into a match just now. Game got halfway there and then said migrating host (which shouldnt even be happening with dedicated servers). It got stuck there and I had to quit out.
When I came back it searched for four minutes and finally said that it could not connect to host.
When I restarted the search it told me it couldnt join the game session because it was full.

Well this has been fun tonight. I'm out for the night, getting too frustrated.

He's probably still installing the game

My concensus is the matching is definitely improved, but it's not anywhere near where it should be.
Overall it's definitely less frustrating as before, but it seems the patch has created an entirely new set of bugs.

Game crashing at match stat screen.
Kill counts not correct at game stat screen. I had a 10 kill count in match, but the stat screen said I had 17.

I finally figured out who at 343 I feel bad for. The testers. They would have been trying to cope with this shit for months on end and any feedback they ever gave or documentation they made was apparently either ignored or just never read at all. Or, worse, it was incorporated and it still ended up this broken. That's a pain in the ass enough of a job on a functional game so I can't fathom how demoralizing it would be for your legitimate stress and care to have been for what looks to potentially millions of players to be nothing.

Everyone else? The hell? Get your shit together and I hope you're damn ashamed of yourselves. The fact that anyone loves your series enough to go such insane lengths (waiting! resets! downloads! drops!) just to play one still-potentially-broken match is nothing short of miraculous.

Well, I will clarify - This is *just* my home store I'm speaking on. I haven't gone hunting for return numbers. That's the sort of negative thinking I don't like to pursue... comes across as looking for an agenda, heh.

But, yes. In my home store, we've had exchanges for 'defective' product. Typically for just another copy, but some people went all out, and returned the game and the impulse XB1 together. I will state again, this wasn't any kind of majority, or even a significant percentage, but it was happening.

And if this patch hadn't resolved anything, I'm just going to tell my boss it's a similar situation, because him having to go over and get another explanation each time is a waste of time. Let them get another game or something, but since it was already opened, it's going to be store credit, at least.

Patch worked. BTB in 20 seconds.

Initially it was stuck on a "downloading latest data" message. I backed out of that, tried again, and that message flashed up for less than 1 second. Got wrecked in btb.

Matchmaking still has connect to host bug. Error message will throw loop until player backs out.

I thought the patch notes said this bug was fixed!

That's not what a consensus is...

Where can you measure this consensus of yours? Yes its a given that those who are experiencing the problem is much more vocal about it but it seems its warranted as seeing this thread is multiple pages long and now having retail anecdotal statements about returns. I think a lot of ppl are frustrated because they really like halo and wanted to enjoy the nostalgia (like I do) of playing the remastered collection but seeing as it made it worse (I was better off before the patch), its understanding.

Alright, so like I said I just downloaded the patch.

-It erased my checkpoint data on the last mission I was playing, where I was like 95% done. Holy fuck.

-Roster is semi-functioning.

+I searched for a game and I was in within 45 seconds. I heard people complaining about their team getting mixed up. Game worked flawlessly. My team sucked, we got rekt.

-Just started the second search and it found players in under 45 seconds again, but the connection failed just as everyone was joining up.

-Started a third search, found players in about 15 seconds. Connection failed.

+Started a fourth search, it found players in under 25 seconds... map is loading right now.

shame-1.gif~c200

I bought a console for this.

I spent four hundred goddamn dollars.

I am seriously butthurt about this. Any and all hope I had for anything 343 does in the future is dead and buried.

Alright,

games are taking 4min to find.

only halo 2 classic seems to be working

games are 5v5? why? WHY???

half the time teams are uneven

this is a DISASTER

After that downloading the latest matchmaking think finished u played 2 games absolutely flawlessly... Fucking love this game holy shit. Bed time bow.

Yeah they're still running it on P2P for whatever reason.

I wonder when we can expect to see the dedicated servers being used.
