Halo: MCC Multiplayer "1th" patch "fix" live!

I got a refund with MS customer support chat.

They wanted to know what troubleshooting steps I'd taken, so I ran through the usual suggestions: connection speed, ping, judder; wired directly to modem, etc.

Only took five minutes.

Digital code right? They're saying I can't be refunded since I didn't directly purchase it from the marketplace.

For now, you will continue to see uneven match-ups and larger than normal team sizes in matchmaking. This is a temporary situation that is caused by the fact that we are allowing more players than normal into a matchmaking session in order to improve overall matching times.

I attempted to watch Ninja's stream earlier, but he couldn't find a game and was bitching about the MM not even being tested, same... same.

Really? How many more updates from them would you need to consider them communicative?

Well, it would have been nice last night for them to provide an update along the lines of "We're investigating reports of ________"

Instead, we got this a day later.

We realize that silence and opacity, even when we have nothing new to say, is frustrating. With each change and/or update we make, it takes time for us to capture and analyze the data to determine the tangible impact to the game experience.

Let us know that you're aware of what's going on and not ignoring it, even if you don't have anything to say about a future "content update."

So what I gathered is the patch barely did anything....glad I bought smash last night.

smash is literally one of the few games that works 100% outta the box this year....kind of sad in retrospect.

This part makes no sense.

That part suggests the patch notes, that read like there were definite and firm fixes for issues, were in fact not so much rock solid fixes but band-aids intended to mask root causes.

I've worked on a few little games where we piled botch upon botch in order to quickly mask Problem A... but that resulted in unintended Issue B and Compromise C and a tangled mess of unmaintanable spaghetti. It most definitely has alarm bells ringing to read such comments at this point and goes against the usual slick and deliberate PR you would normally expect. What it is, at least, is more honest.

It's possible that they don't yet know what caused the issues and the recent patch was more of a way to determine the cause rather than a fully fledged fix.

Definitely looks that way.

Goddamn what a mess. Be wise people and if you get a refund get GTA V instead.

That is wise. But I got a refund, returned my Xbox One to Best Buy, and am now trying to decide if there's an attractive Wii U offer this Black Friday. After a questionable year with PS4, and now this being my first experience with XB1, I'm thinking maybe the people who tout "PC+Wii U" might be on to something.

Do you think that if 343i knew it was fucked on release that they wouldn't have slimmed down the online modes to damage control the online modes? Then they could slowly open the modes up over time like "free" content patches as they worked through the issues they would have known were there. It makes me wonder how much of this was not that it was broken in test circumstances but broken in the outside world where it was never stress tested.

In addition, is it possible that some of this is the result of bad game installs off disc?
Seems pretty unlikely that they didn't know.
The games issues are bigger than just matchmaking. Even campaign and custom games aren't perfect.

These posts are ridiculous. You bought X1 for just MCC? There is many games out that are great.

Thanks for that.

Doesn't seem very encouraging does it? There's too many problems with the game and it almost feels like they don't know what to do. I'm thinking the game is fundamentally broken and it's going to take far longer than we think for it to be running up to par.

Been saying this from day one.

This game is not fixable. I think there's no bigger clue of that than the fact that everyone's experiences are so wildly different across SP and MP.

For example, I keep hearing about all these issues people are having with SP, yet thus far, its been flawless for me. But 12 days in, I'm yet to play a single MP match made game. This game cant be fixed.

Just offer a refund to those who want one and unlock all 4500GS for everyone. Bite the bullet and cut your losses.

Posts like yours are ridiculous. That was fun to say. Now don't you feel silly!?

Yes, there were two other games I bought along with MCC(SO, FH2), but MCC was the game that put me over the edge (as well as the price drop). But now the game that pushed me over the edge sucks. So I grabbed a full refund and then reassessed the situation, which amounts to: News story about MS getting smaller/cheaper Xbox parts, PS4 being my home of choice for multiplats, me not liking the Xbox One UI experience at all, and the exclusive outlook for Xbox One for the first half of next year not looking so good to me. Translation - I got a refund and am willing to wait a year for the inevitable next version of the hardware. SO and FH2 will still be there digitally when I return. What you find to be ridiculous, I found to be quite reasonable.

This, I'm abandoning ship, I'll wait until a x1 slim comes out and they have unique IP's, probably this time next year I hope

Yep. They never called them patches even on the old Xbox. They were always to be referred to as "AutoUpdates".

Yeah, it's funny how they keep getting renamed for each generation of Xbox:

OXbox: Auto Update
360: Title Update
One: Content Update
NextXbox: Data Update, probably

Just got into my first match! (Only have tried a few times a just got the game the day the patch released)

H2A Map. Full match, played like a dream, the next match started and ended in a "Tie" automatically.

Searching for match 2 now.

I am getting a Wii U next year for now i am glad with my PC that i play a lot on and my PS4 that i bought this year and yet to my best purchase that i do not regret and with remote play on my vita is godly.

I tried to play last night. First attempt, at about 1 minute, connected me with 4 other people. We sat waiting for more for about 3-5 mintues before people started leaving. The next time I tried, at about 2-3 minutes, I got connected with 5 people. It took about 1-2 more mintues searching. Gave up. Started the game. We were 3 v 3 which is awesome considering about 50% of my games I've played have been lopsided.

Total 7-11 minutes to get into a game. Better than a few days ago, but still not good enough. I'll try again in another week. I have too many good games to play to waste time waiting for matchmaking.

That was in the Halo 2: Anniversary playlist btw.

One of the shittiest things about this are the regular employees of 343i who are probably subject to endless crunch right now coz of some MS/343i execs decision to push out an unfinished game in time for black friday.
To be fair, they outsourced almost everything so surely that decision falls partly back on 343.

Edit: double post but whatevs

I'm getting so close to the point where I'll demand a satisfaction. I still want to keep the game, but they need to give us beta testers something reeeeally nice for all this.

Yeah, Super Smash Bros. U works perfectly without any issues whatsoever, especially for multiplayer. That's the irony of it all.

Can't say the same for DriveClub or this Collection at all.

It's software and can be fixed. The real question is how long are you willing to wait?

I've been in similar situations before and their blog post leads me to believe they don't know the full extent if the issue and so they're breaking things in a way to put additional pressure on what they believe to be the real issue. If this is the case then whatever the solution is it's going to take many iterations to get right as fixing one issue will expose the next issue.

I actually feel bad for the guys at 343i because the guys writing the code were probably fully aware of the issues but management didn't listen. Happens way too often.

Tried to play online last night. I couldn't so I went back to Dragon Age. If last night is any indication things are getting worse for me. By myself I used to be able to get games pretty fast.

So did 343 give any stats about how much it improved? I know people have problems but I have been play consistently ever since the patch. With uneven teams know and then...

Yesterday I played a lot of matches. Some of them by the end of the night were with some really uneven teams. But things progressed here.

Like I said yesterday, this is strange. Sometimes I can play fine, sometimes it gives me a lot of problems. My last matches were a mix of successful games (but quite long time in the queue) and "you lost connection with the host" issue. Earliear I played a good ammount of matches without that issue.

I thought however that 343 would say something yesterday. Now I guess its safe to assume they will only appear with some news on monday.

Well, MS is still in charge. MS has them put together a 4 game title while working on Halo 5.

This is all on management. No devs.

I'm sorry. Do you have citation for this? Where was it ever said that MS forced them to bundle four games together?

Hell if 343i's vidocs are to believe, they chose to do this themselves. Yeah, MS might have wanted a game this year. But what was shipped was 343i's doing. They chose to bite off more than they can chew. Therefore they deserve the blame.

Microsoft should pull this game off shelves until it's fixed and all patches and multiplayer are added to the final code. It's that bad.

I know. Up until now it's been like 'this launch is fucked, but I still love campaign...'. Just experienced my first mission-resetting bug the other day and now I'm at the end of my patience.
