Halo: MCC Multiplayer "1th" patch "fix" live!

I have a feeling, with 343i, that Halo might become one of the biggest game series ever to one of the most disappointing follow-ups in all of gaming. Kind of like what happened after Ultima 7. Halo Anniversary and 4 were just the start and now MCC bringing in even more frustration and disappointment.

Think of an owner-pet relationship. Bungie (owner) knew how to treat it's pet (Halo) well and did many good things for it. But when the owner had to move and couldn't take the pet with it, the pet had to get a new home. It went to a new owner in 343i. The owner seems like it's only giving the pet bare needs, but it seems a vet might be too expensive for the owner.... yes, I realize this analogy is weird.

Yea. Pretty much.

I just don't care that much about this. It's just a constant stream of hyperbole about...pretty much everything.

The hyperbole is really annoying, that's for sure. It doesn't contribute to discussion whatsoever, and most of it is pretty blatant.

Matchmaking seems to be still taking quite a while for me, and i'm still getting unbalanced matches. I was just put into a 5v6 after waiting close to 8 minutes for a match. I love Halo but damn. I might request a refund and get it in a few months when it works better and get Super Smash in the meantime.

Honestly, 5v6 doesn't seem too bad at all. If the disparity is more like 2v6, then that's something really wrong, IMO.

Hell, I was in a 4v3 match on Stonetown and the team of three wiped the floor with us.

Couldn't get a refund since I didn't purchase it directly from the marketplace.

It's honestly improved. Not perfect, but faster for sure. Have no choice but to wait, but this sucks right now.

They improved the speed, generally, but the patch introduced a few other glaring issues. Like the annoyance that is the Match Incomplete bug.

I love how if you go through the game listing page on Twitch, over half of the thumbnails are just people sitting in a matchmaking lobby.

Holy crap you're right. And the thumbnails that aren't lobbies are mostly single player campaigns.

That moment when you're not surprised because this is what 343 specializes in (ruining halo)

Sometimes I freaking hate Halo fans...

EDIT: FWIW I've had a better experience. I've more consistently found games. I have had to restart the search a couple times, but it is an improvement. That doesn't negate the fact that some people are having a shitty time, but at least on my end it's an improvement. There are still issues, of course, and the MM still needs tweaking, but this is a lot better than on launch day.

I wonder if Microsoft is going to take serious action at 343, this colossal fuck up was unimaginable when speaking of Halo. What kind of sheer incompetence lead to them crippling the platforms iconic title in the most critical timeframe of the year. It's going to be week 2 soon of this massive shit storm, and the bugs that effect the game are not minor ones either. Broken levels, even the UI messing up in ways I've never seen before happening in a AAA title.

Just get it fixed 343.

And give it to who? What other group could MS spend millions and millions of dollars on to take on the task to make it much better? Is there another MS first party dev that could?

**UPDATE**

since my post below, I only now tried again. I tried halo 3 multiplayer, aaaand

I've been getting steadily matches, like 3 in a row.

game does not kick me after the end of the game (which was one of the worst problems since day 1 if you could connect)

and right now I wont right anymore 'cause game 4 (in a row) has just started

hopefully it sill go like this from now on!!

doesnt work for me.

in fact, it doesnt work for southern europe in general.

"waiting..." x10, then "connection failed, please try again"

I did a hard reset just in case the patch wasnt downloaded, and the game booted fine, didnt ask for any update, and inside the game it updated for a couple of seconds the playlists or something.

but nothing more than that.

Not saying this is the case, but that's making the assumption that Microsoft didn't force 343 to release it on the 11th, which was close to the anniversary of 2's release and would have marketing power. We don't know what happened behind the scenes, it's jumping to conclusions to pin it all on 343 when there are potentially many other factors at play.

So is it possible to get a refund? I contacted them like a week ago, and they told me to give it two days. I've waited for the patch and it's still bad.

How many other factors are there? MS forcing them because they are relatively new? Impossible deadlines?

For those saying they are getting steady matches, are you backing out after each game? Because I get steady matches but only when I stick with the group of players after the game ends.

Can anyone confirm if parties are more stable at least? I was avoiding matchmaking all together and just playing custom games in a party with my friends. Haven't logged in since before yesterday's patch.

They're not, you'll still randomly get split up and still have to invite each other if you back out of a playlist/search.

Matchmaking has been mostly a breeze with many games found instantaneously and our lobby being carried immediately into the next game.

Adding friends to my party is 9000X better... which means it's working about 75% of the time.

I got my refund last week. I think I got it that Saturday after release. Just talk to online chat support here:

http://support.xbox.com/contact-us

I always find it bizarre when people say they get to keep their game after getting refunded. Every time I've gotten a refund for digital goods, they always strip the game from my system (which I'm cool with). But I always read about folks keeping their games. Crazy stuff.

Who specifically do I have to contact about a refund? Is there a CS dedicated to specifically that?

Just use the contact chat on their site. You will talk to a rep. Tell them what you want, and they'll transfer you over to the right department. Whatever you do, be courteous. And don't get angry or have a bad tone if things aren't going smooth. They will try to jerk you around. They might even try to say the issue is on your end, and try to get you to troubleshoot before giving you a refund (I think they are required to do this).

When I got my refund, they tried to place the blame on my internet. And I had to stay calm and put it back on them, not allowing them to talk me into a corner. I had to tell them my NAT is Open. That my internet connection is good on the system. Blah blah.

EDIT: The site is down for me. Not sure if it is for others. But if it is, then just wait until it goes back up.

Not saying they should purge the whole studio, just employ people skilled enough to do the job.

Microsoft dumped millions of dollars into this studio and it's their responsibility to deliver a good product. I've always supported 343 and still do but this is a sizeable fuck up and some one has to take responsibility wether it is at MSGS or 343.

Halo: CE Anniversary came out 3 years ago, wether this collection was in the planning for so long we don't know. I doubt they told 343 "here's 10 months, get it done" while cracking a whip, if they felt that they haven't tested the game enough and it wasn't ready they should have had a DEMO even if it was for a weekend. To see if the UI was working, if match making was working etc. etc.

Graphic hiccups I can tolerate in Halo, but for match making not to work is inexcusable. People will test that for free if you let them.

Never thought I'd see the day when Microsoft would be playing catch-up to Nintendo with online.

Hyperbole maximus
(Nintendojitsu lol)
, this doesn't reflect on MS as a whole. Turn 10 and Playground Games have done amazing jobs with Forza, this reflects on 343.

We'll get more clarification when the "what happened" post comes around from 343, but all of those are a possibility. They missed their initial release date for the 20gb multiplayer patch which means they were working on it right up to the last minute, which I highly doubt they anticipated. With how many different companies were working on this game small issues or delays could quickly compound. I don't know if any of this is actually the case, just things I think could have played a factor.

Oh no doubt, I fully agree. I just don't think it's as black and white as 343 being incompetent or Microsoft being deadline fixated. I feel that 4 had a relatively smooth launch, or at least one that wasn't this messed up. 343 knows how to launch a game, as does Microsoft, so whatever happened I think is more complicated than 343 being incompetent.

sorry to go a bit off topic here but I had a question concerning DMZ and multiple devices. I noticed an improvement when setting up staticIP/DMZ on my PS4. my question is, can I set up the same static IP with my 360 and have it work also?

obviously I can't use them simultaneously but if I was to make sure both aren't on at the same time, would that work?

You don't even believe this crap.

Smash launch was smooth as hell.

Lol but to be fair, you can't compare these games, as Halo MCC is a massive collection of data/engines being packaged into one thing. So it's a lot more complex then that. But I think his point still stands, you never would have expected Halo to shit the bed, while Nintendo has lag free/smooth online play. I never would have thought this a couple years ago.

Wait, Smash online is fine? How is it without a wired Wii U connection?

I'm super hyped to get home and play it now.

That profile picture tells me this isn't worth my time.

I'm just saying, even if we take a glass-half-empty approach to the situation here, you're seriously going to contend that this patch somehow introduced 10 more bugs for each "fix"? I'm not so blind to say that the patch didn't cause some NEW issues, but if it truly was as your claiming here that'd be like if you started the game up after the patch and it simply bricked your console. That's exaggeration and hyperbole and you know it.
