If you're gonna keep the dumb assassinations, at least make it so the assassin can die from a punch in the back even if he turns the camera around.

Was it worth playing with Starwolf?

I'll play with anyone if it gets me off grey world.

Can someone answer something for me? What was Jason Jones involvement with Halo following 2? I don't remember seeing him much in anything Halo 3 related and the games after that. Is there any connection to the lack of his involvement in the newer Halo games and the decline in quality? I still loved Halo 3, although it wasn't as good as 2, and I enjoyed ODST for what it was. Reach though as everyone knows has many issues. I just wonder how much he affected the development of the series.

I absolutely think there is a connection between Jones not directly working on Halo 3 and Reach and their quality compared to the first two games in the series.

In Halo 4, we are interested in doing something the franchise does well on the book side, and that’s helping shape the narrative. Halo is a compelling and deep universe, and we want to tell the story of this bio-engineered super-soldier.

One of the Master Chief’s most notable physical characteristics is that he’s wearing 800 pounds of tank and jet fighter. So we pulled that design into the armor and HUD. When you play Halo 4, it’s important you understand that you’re more than just a gun on the screen. To give you that feeling, we have represented that weight with player physics, without interrupting crosshair and shooting accuracy.
i'm liking the sound of this game called halo 4

Moving has never interrupted your crosshair or shooting accuracy in any Halo game. They're talking about when you land, inertia when you change direction (which has been in since Halo 2), etc. The "feel" of the movement, in other words.

Other games that are not arcade shooters like Halo tend to do stuff like make your character lower their gun when you fall a great distance or jump over something. Since Halo is an arcade shooter, they're not going to start doing that (hopefully)

That looks pretty nice, not gonna lie. With a few tweaks I can see the amor really growing on me. Man, Im digging the color and the details a lot in that picture.

I love assassination, but man do I hate how that happens.

Not really. They are saying you're going to feel like a Spartan. As in, the weight and power will be conveyed better but at the same time, won't be interfering with how we aim. That's how I read it anyway. Bloom neither adds or subtracts from the player feeling like a Spartan.

Which reminds me, I would love if the lower weapon combo was a bit easier and still showed a portion of my gun on screen. Gives it a much more cinematic feel (especially in ODST).

I hope what they are mentioning isn't player inertia/ strafing inertia like Reach...

You mean the player/strafing intertia that's been in since Halo 2? If you take those away you start feeling more like a floating gun than a person holding a gun.

Also, that would be nice. I also want a Blind skull that leaves the damn gun on the screen so I can play the campaign that way.

shyamalanwhatatwist.gif ?

Uh. That entire section was a lot of words to say basically nothing.

That angle just confirms how great that armor looks, though. So there's that, I guess.

At first I thought they were talking about the change Bungie made to looking up/down in Halo 2 and then my brain melted because it doesn't seem like they were talking about that.

Ever plan on making the site load on the iphones again, waypoint team?
I'd settle for links to the bulletin not redirecting me to the blog listing every time I try to click them.

It's starting to grow on me as well but I agree with Tawpgun. I wouldn't hate it so much if they slimmed down the armor around his shoulders and back.

i hated the first batch of toyfair pics, but yeah, those look nice.

really excited to see what they are doing to immerse the player as the chief, particularly the new HUD bits. an extension of the quick halo 3 boot up when you would spawn?

I'm not exactly sure what the majority of the bulletin was getting at when talking about helping the player understand the Chief's weight.

The Bulletin mentions the Fall of Reach, so I will too. The book tells the reader that Mjolnir is very much like a second skin to a Spartan; so much so that it's as if they're not wearing any armor at all. Going off this, I don't understand the emphasis of making the player feel the Chief's weight – he certainly doesn't.

Edit: Then there's this:
When we first looked at the Chief’s armor, we studied what was done in Reach. We knew he needed to be understood as a nimble yet heavy superhero, and contrast that with Reach armor design that was more on the bulky side.
MC's current armor is on the bulky side as well, at least compared to the Mark VI.

I really hope they recognize that trying to represent that sense of heft and weight they want to give the Chief can lead to how Reach plays. I think it can be done well, but never at the expense of gimping actual player movement, inertia, etc.

Also, for the love of Christ I hope that the bit about pulling that design into the HUD doesn't mean that the hud is gonna be tilting ever so slightly whenever an explosion goes off near me, or if I do a quick turn. That's the thing I hate the most about my current go-to mp game, Bf3. It's awful there, the "immersion" it adds there doesn't make up for the functionality and ease-of-use it takes away. Keep that away from Halo 4, give me a HUD that's clear to read and doesn't jitter around. Form follows function please.

That's why I added the "like Reach" part. Halo 2 & 3 It was there, but it didn't affect gameplay in a negative way. Reach's feels heavy and like I have less control over where I want to go.

Just get rid of Blind. Metroid Prime lets you change helmet opacity and HUD opacity in the options, Halo should just have this.

That'd be great. If they insist it comes back in it's current form, it needs to be promoted to a Gold skull that multiplies score.

The suit enhances their movements so that it feels like a second skin to them. But they still weigh a ton. The only analogy I can come up with was when I first started wearing steel toe boots for marksmanship in high school, we had to do laps for every bullet outside of the bullseye. At first, it felt like I was running around with concrete blocks attached to my feet. A few months into it they just felt like I was running around with my normal shoes on, but if I were to kick a door/wall they'd do a lot more damage. So they're trying to say that while Chief may be fictionally relatively nimble, he's still interacts with things he runs into / touches like he's freaking heavy.

I've been wanting a customizable HUD since Halo 3.

I rarely if ever actually look up at health when playing aside to check if I should grab a med pack.

It sounds like that describes gameplay similar to Rainbow Six Vegas..
Where the armor you equip makes you more protected, but your also much slower and can't strafe as well.

I think that could add some interesting mechanics for the Halo universe.

I was oscillating back and forth from it being the philosophy behind the key art (which didn't make any sense because you can tell what the camera's angle is) and the cutscene direction (which doesn't make any sense unless the Chief is just in a white room the entire game with zero perspective on any of the shots). I guess we'll find out? I'm complaining when I shouldn't be, because we aren't entitled to any information at all, but the buzzwords being thrown around with reckless abandon in that MC section ("focusing on the storytelling aspects of art from the design standpoint" err, what) just reminded me that less is sometimes more.

Grateful for the information, as always.

Trying to find people that I can trust to share a room with for MLG Columbus kind of sucks. All my locals are sharing a room and dont want to stuff any more people in there.

As interesting as it sounds, it wouldn't work. People hated loadouts mostly for the reason it started people off differently. Imagine allowing people to change themselves to such depth it affects how much damage they can take.

All the same, it's interesting to think about.

Suit keeps growing on me. Now if only they changed those huge stupid floating shoulder pads for something that wrapped around his arms more gracefully.

I really hope Halo 4 let's us make our own Chief. Reach has done a really good job of tying how the player looks to every part of the game. Players can be identified by the colour of the armor and the armor itself so there is a real sense of identity there.
Will Master Chief's transition from 3 see the nanobots refitting the Chief as the player wishes? Will we be able to pump more protection to private parts? Will we be able to adjust HUD colours or opacity?

What if... they use nanobots as an excuse to 'let Chief upgrade as is necessary'? Is this going to be the game where I can adjust the amount of information I get on screen? Maybe just have different visualisations for the same info? Who knows, maybe one slider will turn the music down this time :p

Saw this over at r/Halo and thought I'd share :D

Also, just got the Anniv. Map Pack. Good? Bad? Anyway, would like to play with a few Gaffers GT - OdysseusVA. My k/d is 1.59. That's good enough to roll with you guys, right? RIGHT?!

Well edited. Honestly that map pack has the best maps in the game. Lately I haven't had time to play much but you can check here for HaloGAF gamertags and submit your own: http://halogaf.com/gamertags/

Leave the customization to MP only. You lose some of who the character is by making his armor customizable.

Yeah, Chief's armor keeps looking better to me every time I see it. It's interestign to hear the artistic reasons for changing the look from Halo 3, but I hope there's a decent in-universe explanation as well, at least one that's better than "Nanobots did it."

And I'm calling it right now, Halo 4 will have a Metroid Prime style hud that actually appears as the inside of a helmet and reacts to the environment. I wouldn't be too surprised if we even saw a reflection of John's eyes.
