I admit, Halo 1's maps have been done to death at this point :p and I just dont see a single Reach map I would want back. However I would like to play Guardian, Pit and Blood Gulch (done properly) again. Halo 2 and 3 have a lot of maps that would still seem fresh in a new environment. Throw in Blood Gulch and maybe Death Island from Halo 1 PC and I would be happy.

I'm assuming we're going to have at least one remake on-disc for 4. That's just the reality of it (and marketing). But assuming they overhaul the game to have a powerful map creator like Far Cry's, I'd rather the developers focus on new experiences and new maps and let the community remake Bungie maps if they want to play on them.

This has also gotten fairly interesting now that Far Cry 3 is coming out September 5th or so. You're going to see an FPS with what we can assume is a super-editor. It'd be awkward if 343 just showed up with Forge With More Forerunner Pieces in the same year .

The only way I'd accept remakes in Halo 4 DLC and beyond is if they make the DLC a platform (I've talked about this before) where you buy the DLC and it works in 5 and 6. I don't want to get into a pattern where we're rebuying Midship and Hang Em High every 2 years.

I would love to make a proper tage, I got a capture card recently and was learning after effects for work related stuff, so it seemed like putting 2+2 together to make a proper tage, but I never found the time to trawl through my clips. I think I heard that the new dashboard update killed off a lot of capture cards so I haven't even tried since.

See, now I can definitely get behind all of this, especially a more powerful Forge (since that's where I spent most of my time anyways).

Not being able to play DLC between games when it's already well-established that we're getting another Trilogy will border on criminal. I'd say something like "I'm not going to buy them again in protest", but I know myself better (though technically, YOU bought me one of the Reach map packs... thus, you clearly support remakes! Caught you, sucker, I win, nyeh nyeh, game over.)

I really like this idea. IIRC isn't that similar to Rock Band's DLC system?

Yep. Rock Band DLC from 1 & 2 works in 3. They even added Pro Drums support in Rock Band 3 with a gigantic patch data to hundreds of songs that came out before they started considering Pro Drum support, so all of the over thousand pieces of official DLC support pro drums.

Under the current Halo engine, the ways to accomplish it like Rock Band did would be that Halo 5 and 6 have patches they apply to Halo 4 DLC (and exported Halo 4 disc maps) to get all the features of the later game. There's also the option of just faking it and re-baking the maps for the later games. One would assume MS is retaining the same LIVE system, so they'd just let you download the rebakes if you bought the DLC, either via LIVE just adding the download or using the maps like a software key to initiate the download for free. The cross-console aspect wouldn't that hard to overcome if MS wanted to actually do this.

This way people get the Halo 4 maps they liked in 5 and 6 (and the 5 maps they like in 6), and 343 gets to focus on making new maps to add in to the selection. Of course, you'd have to sell Microsoft on this idea. Harmonix was able to pull it off because they had publishers that understood what they wanted to do.

To me it seems like Rock Band had it easy because the core engine doesnt change game to game though. (Right?) With Halo it would probably be a lot harder and more restrictive trying to do the same thing that rockband did.

Definitely Halo for me. Its campaign and multiplayer are incredibly unique and stand out from the overcrowded FPS market. Bungie gained my trust with halo 1-3, but then they beat it with a giant stick when they released Reach. I wish them well though, and I'm sure their next game will be fine

edit: COD4 update? Sweet! When was that said?

Until I see and play Halo 4, Bungie. I know Reach was a letdown after the trilogy and ODST, but I think a lot of longtime key Bungie guys working on Destiny and not Reach had a lot to do with that.

Halo, this may sound totally crazy but im convinced Halo 1,2 and 3 where kind of not meant to be. The fact that I enjoy them is kind of against what Bungie intended them to play like (If they had more polishing time) I mean watching some of the newer vidoc's its pretty clear Bungie dont like things like the Pistol and BR.

Bungie do a lot of amazing stuff, and are ahead of the curve in a lot of areas and I will be looking forward to seeing what they do next, but gameplay wise im more excited to see what gameplay 343 has in store for us.

I don't know what to think about Reach after a year and a half. I never expected it to cause so much rage, at least not more than H3 did.

It did alot of things right in the production value area, yet the beaker that was Reach, on the whole, just blew up with the experimentation.

Anyways, I ask because of Destiny, and how the two series will interact with eachother on the market. They're pretty closely bound because of their heritage, is what I mean.

I agree with you there. I don't know what the consensus on GAF is, but I actually like the grittier presentation that Reach has (not that I'm particularly against the vibrant feel of 1-3).
The armory and active roster were great additions as well. The weapons were great as well, with only a few that didn't really click with me.

The only real problems that I have with Reach are armor abilities, bloom, and lack of quality maps. Reach isn't bad, but it's definitely not what comes to mind when I think of Halo. TU can be pretty damn fun, and I'd still take vanilla Reach over any FPS on the market. I just hold the Halo franchise to a certain standard, and Reach didn't meet my expectations.

This is getting to be a bit long already, so I suppose I'll go ahead and add in my hype for Halo 4. After reading these last couple bulletins, I am very much looking forward to it. I mean, that bit about the "feel" of a spartan...Good lord. March can't come soon enough.

Halo, but I still like Bungie.

I do like how Reach looks, especially the Anniversary maps. They seem to be somewhere between the grittiness of Reach and the vibrancy of H3. I hope H4 sticks to that styling.

Same here, it just kind of adds to the horribly un-Halo-like gameplay. High Ground is an example of the kind of atmosphere I appreciated in Halo 3 for maps.

I haven't played a Halo FPS that wasn't made by Bungie. (CEA doesn't count.)

I haven't regularly played a Bungie game that wasn't Halo.

Ask me again after Halo 4 and Destiny have released. I can't honestly answer that question right now.

I can't be a Halo fan without being a Bungie fan. The 2 are too connected for me right now. Bungie would have to do some pretty bad things before I'd start to dislike them.

But right now, I'm more excited for Halo 4 than Destiny.

When you play Halo 4, it's important you understand that you're more than just a gun on the screen. My issue is playability. I had to stop the Halo Reach campaign and go check my TV settings to make sure my gamma wasn't wrong. I shouldn't have to use the night vision mode *in the daytime*--hell, I just ended up keeping it on all the time because while it was grainy it didn't blow out like ODST's VISR and I got annoyed about having to keep turning it back on.

The visual style of Reach was a huge step away from one of the big reasons I liked Halo--can you see Call of Duty ever pushing out purple vehicles?
